Frosty Faustings III planning thread

Hey my name is Armando and Im a friend of Prucha. But more importantly I run organized play for gatheringgamers.com. We are a facebook app that allows you to play people for currency online through our community. I just have few questions concerning Frosty Faustings.

what have the attendance numbers looked like the last few times you had this event?

what are the ballroom prices are you looking at?

This would be a great help as we are trying to break into the tournament scene.

Bozac if you need someone to Run BB I wouldn’t mind as well as hitting up out of towners to come to this event from DL

Lemme know

I vote hotel if possible.

Keep Zinac away from brackets if he shows up.

lmao that guy

I’d love to get in a few games with you, we never did at MWC.

Want to run back CVS2?

I 2nd this

Heroic-Don’t even get me started…:bluu:

Grog-Lol if people are willing to then yeah lets run it!

I am still waiting for an answer from GGA. For those of you suggesting a hotel, do you have any good places in mind?

Mike if he doesnt get back to you then I can try and ask the banquet hall next to my fiances work. She knows the owner and is almost directly attached to the hotel she works in. Its in a good location with a ton of stuff going on around it, ill go ahead and ask if you can toss me some dates. Also toss me a link to your email address as well.

What about the same hotel Keits did MWC at. It was down the street from the one last year. Check with Keits about it.

Ive heard GGA would be waaay to small for something of a tournament of this size.

alright so he just replied and this is what he had to say.

"Thanks for contacting me, sounds like it would be really cool. I’m sure we can work something out to make it a great event!

>>I noticed on your website that you have 2 20x20 sq ft game rooms that can be combined and that you rent them for $75 each for the whole day. That sounds like a pretty good deal. However I have a few questions and concerns I would like to ask you about

Normally, its $75 per room and the $3 per person and then the $15 for the arcade floor (if you are using it). It sounds like you would have a good number of people so I can definitely work you a better deal on the price though.

>>If we did this, would you be able to provide the tables, chairs, and power strips and if so, about how many setups do you think would fit in the rooms?
**Yes…you will just need to let me know how many tables chairs and power strips you will want and I will be happy to get as many as you need. **

>>Also, for the TVs that you have, do they have any input lag when playing fighting games?
Unfortunately, there is some lag on our 42" LCD TVs. We are looking into upgrading, but not sure when that will happen. I honestly haven’t tested to see the exact m.sec of lag. yet, but I will very soon

>>Also do you have a mic or a megaphone we could use to call matches?
**Yes, I can have something set up for sure. **

>>I don’t think too many people will be all that interested in paying that much for the venue fee when they just want to play in the tournaments
I’m open to coming up with a different pricing structure for this. I’m not 100% sure what a good plan for it is, but I’m sure we can work something out. How many people would you expect to come? How much about are the prize pots? What time would you be looking at starting the event? Last weekend we stayed open for 24hours for the VGEvo charity event (which was a lot of fun) would you want any extended hours? Usually we are open 11AM - 2AM already on Saturdays. Again I’m sure we can come up with something price wise that will work.

**If there are some specific arcade games you wanted run tournaments on we can bring them into the private gaming rooms as well for the day.
**
>>Is there anywhere else nearby where people could park?
**Yes, I can set up additional parking… aside from our lot, and the two close side streets, I can arrange for an extra parking lot that will be within a block or so.
**
>>Someone said theres a train station within walking distance.
Yes the train is only a few blocks away. We could probably even work out sending one of my employees to pick up people so they don’t have to walk it.

Would you want us to promote the event to get even more people or are the people coming from your group only?
Would you want to see if I could get the event streamed online with Aurcade.com or anyone else or is it again more of a private event?
"

So what do you all think about this? He seems to be quite flexible about catering to our needs, but on the other hand, like humbag said, perhaps its not enough space? it would be 40x20 sq ft. Honestly its difficult for me to picture how big that is exactly in my head. Can someone that has been at GGA’s rentable rooms before confirm if this overall space would be larger or smaller compared to what we were using in the past at Frosty Faustings? We certainly DONT want LESS space than last year, since I would anticipate this year having even MORE people, espesially with SSFIV being out now (remember that last year was just vanilla).

The only other thing about this is, as I mentioned, the previous years I charged everyone 10 bucks for venue fee which is pretty standard for a major. Only in the case of the previous years, it was more than enough to cover the venue cost, so the extra was put into the bonus pot. If we went with GGA there would be no pot bonus from that, it would all go to him. Also, he still seems to want the 150 bucks for the 2 rooms which would be separate, and that means I would be forced to pay out of pocket unless I somehow got everyone to pool in and cover it.

I also still like the idea of having our own ball room / banquet hall because we call all the shots and once venue fee is covered for them, the leftover money would go right back to the tournament winners.

So, I would really like to hear about what results come up from Domingo’s ballroom source. If this falls through though, what do you all think about having it at GGA? Please provide your input. I dont want to just call all the shots because I am doing this for the community as well, so all of your input is certainly valid and noted. Thanks

EDIT: so after just now busting out my 12 foot tape measure and doing some eye ball estimations, it seems to me like at MOST we would be able to get 18 setups in there, but since a setup will most likely take about 4 feet off from each walls perimater going towards the center, the overall space in the center would be reduced to basically about 32 feet by 12 feet for all the specators to sit between. Also, the 18 setup estimate is without taking into account space for the tournament organizers table where registration and bracket management would take place. SO… I dunno… it seems like perhaps it would be too small for a tournament that will be drawing over 100 people.

Once again, please let me know what you think. I could be wrong. Ive never been there and I am just making estimates off of little information.

It would be too small I can already tell you that.

Couple that with area for the players at the station and where are the other 100+ people going to stand? The arcade is jam packed with games.

alright, I sorta figured that…

so… I’m open to suggestions

He does also have another big room where he has the green screen, there is actually a lot more space there too. Watch the youtube walkthrough of the place, it will give you a little idea on how big it is. I can tell you that its more space then you had last year but he would have to move cabs around in order to have more room. Id say running the tournaments in not just the rooms would be ideal but using the whole place. But like I said, I would not just speculate on some “I heard” stuff. Just ask Doc straight up if he can handle that many people and if he is willing to let you use a lot of the space. If anything you could always go to a hall, like I said i need some dates and numbers so i can ask my fiance about the hall. Oh and the TV situation would mostly be covered I think, I know Joe would be willing to help with some of the TVs from AreaXIII and I myself have 3 27" tubes I could also bring.

This sounds awesome, but the gga rooms are pretty small. How many days does will it be? Keep us posted.

OK so Frosty Faustings is always a one day event. It would be Saturday, January 8th only. Numbers wise, well just look at what we had last year. There was over 100 people in there last year. I would imagine it would be at least that much if not more this time. Domingo, please check with your girl and let me know what are options are with that. Im not counting Doc out just yet but its just good to have multiple options so we can make the best choice is all, yknow what im sayin?

House-FF has usually been a one day event

Here’s that walkthrough of the arcade-

imho it just won’t work out, if were trying to get out of towners here’s a few reasons…
-Parking is just too damn small and it won’t workout
-Out of towners usually stay the night @ a hotel when they come for FF(uhhh where’s the nearest hotel? Also that’d be taxi fee for them)
-Uhhh I don’t think anyone would wanna get ona train unless that was like option #84178732892.

Also it’s location and small size just won’t cut it for the amount of setups we’d need, ontop of that it’d be like Taking a BIG step down as opposed to the BIG step up we took from FF1-FF2.

yea im thinking GGA wont work too. im having my brother look into some other hotels and hopefully he will find something good. i will keep you all updated. if anyone elsecould look into some hotels , let me know what you find i would really appreciate it.

What’s going on Mike? Please say this is happening. Don’t cancel Christmas on me.

Still waiting to hear from my brother about other possible venues. I dont think GGA is gonna be big enough so unless we find something else, we will need to cancel the event. Im open to suggestions if anyone wants to help.
