Do people not also get that its a PLANNING thread.
Why would anything be set in stone when we are still planning this.

Any chance of getting a T6 tourny on the side?
I am always interested in midwest BB tournies. Sound good.
I’d say try to make TvC a main game. Give it one last hurrah before its dead. Of course have SSF4 and GG in there too. Any other games are whatevers.
Team tournaments are always fun too.
I want to gooooooooooo to this.
This. All you HDR heads speak up!
Good luck, hopefully my remodeled cab will be finished so there can be some arcade games there. Otherwise I have a supergun that can be used instead.
Bozac the owner of the Arcade here Galloping Ghost is actually very interested in having this at his location. Its in Brookfield,IL and is a good place possibly for this. I can give you his info if you want it just go ahead and PM me. He has a ton of fighters already in cabinets and is bringing us more to make it the Fighting Game mecca for Chicago. He has gone out of his way to actually fix a ton of the complaints people had early on and its looking real good.
Holy crap, please do not cancel this event. This is like one of the highlights of the entire year! As for the venue problem, you should really consider the Galloping Ghost suggestion. When the owner sees an extremely good turn out (which is always the case with FF) then he’ll really start tending to the SRK (fighting game) community. It might also make him put a God damned GGAC cabinet in the arcade instead of Isuka.
As a side note, you should have another representative from SRK (tactics :P) do some arranging with you, so that the owner of the arcade recognizes someone else and we’ll have a maintained, strong relationship with him, since you’re going back to Japan later on.
Would GGA be large enough for a primarily console event.
i’m wondering the same thing. i’m probably going this weekend, it’s pretty far out of the way for me so i haven’t had a chance to see the place in person but i’m pretty excited. how many people do you think would come compared to last year? MWC turnout for sf4 last year was pretty sorry all things considered but jumped up by a great deal at mwc this year. its really hard to say.
thumbs up for tekken. the turnout for the last tekken tournament in chicago in relation to other games speaks for itself. but i can see why it would get passed up for the same reason it wasn’t at ff2.
add one more vote for hdr, i’ll even run the bracket again this year
My other venue I was looking into wont work out so if you guys think Galloping Ghost can pull it off for us then I think its worth considering. I have never been there and know next to nothing about the place but I will trust your judgement. Domingo, sure, if you can either give me the email for the manager there or if you want to contact him yourself since you know him, we can start perhaps making some arrangements. I would need to know things like …
venue rental fee,
how much space we would have,
how much access we would have to things like tables chairs and power strips/extension cords,
the hours the venue would be avaliable to us,
whether they have something like a mic or a megaphone we could use.
It sounds to me like it would be a decent option. I will go ahead and mail him if you can hook me up with the email, D.
I support this tournament! FF2 was hype. This one can be even better.
Its not just GGA.
Does it have ample parking CLOSE to the venue for a lot of people?
That’s definitely a big issue. Their parking lot is about 10-15 cars large. And it’s winter, so if there’s above 2 inches of snow you can’t park on the side streets.
I would like to attend this.
well there is the train stop a block away which I would imagine should have some parking. no idea on if it costs money to park or not though.
Ok so I checked out the GGA website. It looks like it could be a possability. The room rates are cheap but they charge everyone 15 dollars to get in, so thats pretty high for a venue fee. The last years, I paid the entire venue fee up front, I charged 10 bucks per person to cover the venue fee which was a straight fixed cost and then payed it back with all the venue fees I collected. The leftover money went into the bonus pot for the tournament. If GGA is charging 15 bucks per person to get in, its more than people had to pay last time and none of the extra money goes into the pot. On top of that, it seems they charge 75$ for each 20x20 sq ft room and there are 2 (which we would need both, they can be combined via removable wall) so that would be $150 to rent it. Since people are already paying the fixed fee, there would be no way to collect money to cover the $150 and it would have to come right out of my pocket. On the positive side, they seem to provide lots of consoles and TVs (though I am unsure if the TVs have lag, can anyone who has been there confirm?)
And yes, parking will be a big problem if the lot is really only big enough for like 15 cars. Can someone confirm about parking in that train station?
I plan to mail the staff there soon and address all these issues and see what they say, but I was just wondering if anyone who has been there can also give me answers from a customers point of view.
Also, if we were to go with GGA, what would stop us from just using Nickel City? Is it even still around? Do you think people just wont want to go there because its the same old place and MWC had a bad turnout? Is everything still cool with Amar? I havnt been there in years. I also have no idea about their rates either.
So yea, any insight would be most appreciated.
Bozac I doubt you would need to rent the rooms if you are planning an event, they would make money from the people coming in the door. What you could do is talk to them and setup a price all around for the whole event, or just get the price toned down for each day to say 10 or something like that. Bringing in people is more then enough of a plus for the arcade if you ask me but you can discuss that with Doc Mack the owner. Shoot me a text to (630)433-6979 and ill send you his phone number so you can text him or ask him for more info.
I know there are other parking lots in the area and perhaps GGA can use them or ask about using them but im not sure. Its just best for you to get a hold of Doc Mack via facebook or by his number.
OK I sent Doc Mack an email addressing all of these issues and hopefully he will get back to me soon. Calling from Japan is difficult because of time zones and expensive so e-mail should do for now. Let’s see how this goes and I will take it from there.
