Frank West Level Up Strategies

Hey fellow franks ive just finished a video (my first i might add, so theres a lot of room for improvement) showcasing my current team of Spidey/Frank/Dante, mainly focusing on how spidey can level up frank to level 4 easily.

before i get ripped to shreds about the quality of my spidey combos please note these are not meant to be optimal combos but they have certainly been doing their job of leveling frank for me.

Hi all! For people using Strange (Bolts) with Frank, anyone know the best way to use that assist for extra picture? Also I don’t think the extra ground bounce works? I been experimenting a bit with it and can’t seem to get the right timing down. If anyone can point me to a vid of that, that would be awesome.

Fiddlestix, I’ll try to make one up for you. I have some ideas that should work.

Edit: Just tried it out and I cannot get it to work. Thats weird. I wonder where I got that information.

Can someone please retest the Strange stuff for me? Thanks.

I don’t think there is any timing to get an extra picture. As for the extra ground bounce, just tested it and it only works on big bodied characters and possibly some normal sized ones with the right timing.

Edit: It works on most characters, just not in the corner. May work if you backdash.

That kind of sucks, I’ve been messing around with a lot of teams and I really do enjoy using bolts a lot, and ultimately Frank is my favorite character so I went back to playing him. Got some new tech with Frank and some sweet looking combos too, but I’ll post that stuff when I get the time. Right now trying to figure out how bolts + Frank can work, but nothing practical to get double snapshots

Who do you have in front? Sometimes the anchor to a frank team doesn’t matter as much, depending on the lead.

I disagree with that, the anchor always matters, if you do not have backup plan when your point dies, you lose the match on the first hit.

That’s why I said, as much. If the anchor has a good neutral assist for Frank that doesn’t allow for a second picture, but you still have the lvl3 XF anchor derping around or once Frank hits pop level 2 XF and get levelled.

What I meant is the anchor doesn’t have to be a BFF with Frank as long as they’re decent at anchoring in general, or a good neutral assist. One of the reasons I think ???/Frank/Bolts could work.

So I found a sick Strange level up strat for Frank the other night. Two grace, flames of the faltine, and then spell of vishanti. DHC once the opponent is above Frank, then they get hit by the Flame and go into soft knockdown. Knee drop to level up. Plus I think Strange can do the “DHC Glitch” in a way with Frank with his counter super.

I’m going to play with it because I love Strange and I love that assist. Bolts + level 5 Frank is obnoxious

Sounds good. I found a few ways to use bolts for double snapshot but nothing to get directly to level 4. Gotta keep poking around to see what I can come up with.

Not sure if anyone has found this, but I found an easy way to get level 5 with skrull.

Not gonna lie, that’s been known for a while. We saw it at SCR.

I got the idea from apologymans stuff, but if I remember correctly he wasn’t getting to lvl5 off of the first hit with skrull. I could be totally wrong though.

He usually did. It was usually a matter of how late he DHC’d. All you did, no offense, is add a few more hits before to seal the deal for sure.

Probably, but I had to get it so on the last hit skrull would get to lvl2 to allow the dhc. To do what he was doing he usually got close to lvl2 before starting the combo to dhc to frank. If you watch the meter I got lvl2 super on the very last H before doing the super.

That was the hard part and the only way I could get it is to use Vergil. However, I really just picked the game up for a few days so far. Just threw that out there. If you can get the first hit with skrull you’ll get a level 5 frank :frowning:

Been practicing this for a few hours, and it’s really, really tight, but in the corner you can DHC from Chaotic Flame -> Survival Techniques and level Frank. There are a lot of “rules” though, for it.<div><br></div><div>1) The combo must end in the corner</div><div>2) You cannot use too long of a combo before doing it or else you won’t be able to take the picture,</div><div>3) You, more or less, must DHC AS SOON as the last hit of Chaotic Flame connects.</div><div>4*) Not really a rule I think, but I don’t mash Chaotic Flame because it’s easier to see when the last hit counts.</div><div><br></div><div>The important part to know, really, is to DHC from Chaotic Flame as soon as the opponent bounces into the air, then hit them with a Frank S as soon as you have the chance. Follow up with a quick sj.S, Knee Drop down, and Snap. Some assists can work at the end as well (I use Spencer’s Horizontal Grapple) to get two shots, but it’s up to your team combination.</div><div>Actually, this is really hard to explain in text and I wish I had a capture card to make a video of this, The sample combo I use to build into it:</div><div>(Starting in the middle of the screen)</div><div>j.H -> cr.M -> st.H -> Dark Matter -> Mass Change H -> Dash down with j.H -> jump, j.MHS -> cr.M -> sj.MMHS -> Purifcation L -> Chaotic Flame -> DHC on the 48th hit (if you didn’t mash) into Survival Techniques Whiff -> st.S -> sj.S -> Knee Drop -> Snapshot (assist, snapshot)</div><div>(A note, you can also confirm off of Tridash j.L/cr.L, and if you follow up with cr.M -> st.H -> Dark Matter, you’ll DHC on the 49th hit)</div><div>This combo is meter positive, meaning if you’re playing Dorm/Frank/good assist, you could theoretically open with this combo. Without an assist at the end, it does just short of 760k, which means it should be viable on everyone except Phoenix, Strider and Rockoon.</div><div><br></div><div>From what I’ve been noticing, during a Dark Matter combo if you do more than 1 rep of j.MHS, Frank will drop it when his turn comes.</div><div><br></div><div>Also, since Chaotic Flame can be used to punish some things, there is a really situational combo. If you’re sorta close-ish to the corner, you can Chaotic Flame (or even for the lulz do 0D3C -> Chaotic Flame) then DHC into Survival Techniques, whiff it, catch the opponent with st.LMS -> sj.MMH -> air Tools Of Survival L -> j.MS -> land, j. Tools of Survival H -> Knee Drop -> Snapshot, Dark Hole Assist, S -> sj.S -> Knee Drop -> Snapshot for Level 5. This combo does ~515k or something, nowhere near killing.</div><div><br></div><div>Like I said, I’d like to record a video of this, but the soonest I’ll be able to would probably be Saturday after next. </div><div><br></div><div>Just thought some people would like to know! Specifically Duke, do you still play Dormammu/Frank/Haggar? Lariat would work for the end of these combos, I think.</div>

I actually haven’t played Frank for a while, working on Dormammu in a lot of team compositions, though.<div><br></div><div>I used to play Dorm/Haggar/Taskmaster (or Taskmaster/Haggar/Dorm depending on matchup) a lot. I actually think Dorm point is awesome with Lariat assist, it could work. But not having a beam assist makes me sad. I’m super-spoiled now that Dorm/bolts mixups are starting to look like unblockables. Also currently trying out Taskmaster/Deadpool/Dormy, and it’s looking pretty good.</div><div><br></div><div>That is sick, though. Like, extremely sick. Problem is Haggar/Dorm works so amazing with something like Strange or Mags or Dante, Frank’s a hard sell there.</div><div><br></div><div>And Task/Trish/Frank is too perfect to ignore as far as Frank teams go (It’s a fun team that gets lvl5 Frank from a touch and gets incoming unblockables sometimes, gets level 4 off a touch when it’s just Trish/Frank). That’s what I was messing around with last for Frank, dropped only because I’m not that skilled a Trish.</div><div><br></div><div>And yeah, lariat would totally work for the end of these combos. I’m just concerned with the sheer amount of time Dorm spends running away, might impede the “push them to the corner and level up” process. But if you do, probably ggs.</div><div><br></div><div>Oh, another thought. Mashing the beginning of the super and then stopping to get the timing before DHC may give Frank some more hits if he can’t double-pic. It’ll probly work, and I feel bad for probably not using this tech, because it is very very sick, and much more reliable than most soloDorm methods of levelling Frank.</div>

<font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>There’s a ton (and this one may have been mentioned but) a good way to level up Frank is Dante.</span></font><div style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;”>He has lots of ways to help him level up due to his multi-hitting properties.</div><div style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;”><br></div><div style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;”>Jam Session at the end of a combo, Frank has JUST enough time to take 2 pictures during it to get to level 3 and his next BnB will get him to level 4.</div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>Another option is getting 2 bars then THC, after the trolley take a picture then as soon as the character spins in the air (due to the nature of Dante’s portion of the Hyper) Kneedrop with frank and take another picture for extra damage + level 5. If you’re too far away to Kneedrop, just take two pictures anyway and to level 5. In most cases you can just chip your opponent to death and prepare for the next character, that’s at least how I roll. My friend, Doplghost (1st Lord) uses Arthur’s bottle toss incorporated into Frank’s BnB to get Frank up to 4.</span></font></div><div style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;”><br></div><div style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;”>I’ve seen too many Nova and Skrull setups…</div><div style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;”><br></div>

<font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>Duke, it’s all good. Ahaha, I was cruising through the thread and based the thought off of a post you made on the 2nd page.</span></font><div style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;”><br></div><div style=“font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;”>Anyway, tonight I recorded an example of the Dormammu Chaotic Flame -> Frank Level 4/5 combo:</div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>http://www.twitch.tv/angelicfg/b/370033985</span></font><br></div><div><font face=“Arial, Verdana” size=“2”><span style=“line-height: normal;”>It starts around 1:17:30 and looks cool.</span></font></div>

That looks awesome, is it universal? Does that work on Tron, RR and Ammy as well as big bodies?
