I was suggesting that it doesn’t take any thinking to play Halo at the level at which I play it(campaign mode on normal difficulty). I stand by that statement.

First FPS i played was the Doom demo at my friend’s house. One shotting Imps with the shotgun at close range felt so satisfying.
Then i played my favorite FPS of all time Marathon. Interesting story, level design was great, i think it invented the dual wielding, physics and map editor were top notch.
Star Wars Dark Forces was prolly one of the hardest games ive ever played. Early on its not that bad, but later the enemies start to become real assholes.
Wolfenstein ET and America’s Army are two competitive games I really liked. Both were free, one was good ol runnin and gunnin and you could become uberly powerful with almost any of the classes, and one was a slower paced strategic realistic shooter.

Deus Ex needs a proper sequel not that made for xbox console bullshit
Goldeneye always a party favorite
Perfect Dark the laptop gun and the x-ray gun were broken
Alien Vs Predator series playing as the Marine is so fuckin scary and playing as the powerful Predator is too much fun
Quake 2 with mods
No One Lives Forever is one the funniest games ever
Natural Selection which was a Half Life 1 mod one of the most unique FPSs ever
Day of Defeat was always good for some quick games

They took out the best modes and raped the speed so that everyone and there mom could be competitive at it. And added moar vechicles to modes that didn’t need it.
If you were playing unreal since at least UT the original you’d see how garbage UT3 is.

Dodging feels more fluid in UT3, the graphics are huge step up it’s one of the best looking games out there, every weapon is useful, the vehicles are a great addition,and warfare mode rapes onslaught mode.
UT04 is faster yes but faster gameplay =/= competitiveness I’m fine with UT3.
UT isn’t about vechicles and slow pacing and “GOOD GRAPHICS”
It was all about the fast play gameplay and getting to the weapon you loved best and still remained one of the best competitive fps on the market.
People used to have all kinds of strats for ut2k4.
UT3 lost pretty much all the hardcore fanbase it once had in exchange people who just want to ride in vechicles and grimdark gaming.
They should have made it in the form of GOW: Tournament edition or something and gave everyone else the Unreal tournament we were expecting.

Zombie Panic mod for half-life or playing Sven co-op one of the best times I had playing a fps.
Quake 3 Arena was the first FPS game I actually liked and played somewhat competetively. After that it was Halo.
I never really like FPS’s just because they were FPS’s. It was the multiplayer aspect of them that drew me in. If it wasen’t for system link on Halo, I would’ve never cared about it.
The first time I ever saw system link was at a funcoland where someone setup a link with 2 PSX’s and played vs with Doom. I bought a link cable that day and tried to find any and every game that had system link so that I could mimic that. But it wouldn’t be until Halo hit the Xbox that got me hooked on FPS games that had system link.
Xbox Live only made the addiction worse (but lag and host advantage issues helped me come down from that high).
Did Rise Of The Triad have dual pistols? I think they did. That game was pretty old, almost forgot about it! The god hand mode was hilarious.
Blood sorta had dual wielding when you picked up the Guns Akimbo power up.
I agree with the need to remake AVP. I love the alien survival mode where everyone played as a marine, and the 1st person to die became an alien. Anyone who suicided or was killed by the alien after that became an alien. Nothing says teamwork like sniping your teammate in the noggin right before the Queen was going to eat him.
For UT, play the 1st UT and then 2004. You’ll see where they were going with the increase in player mobility and even the level design. Then play UT3 and watch everything come to a grinding halt. Characters move sluggishly. If you think UT3 is streamlined, you’ll probably playing on a console aren’t you? Just look how long it even takes to get into a game, you have to go through something like 6 screens before you get to play.
cod4 h3 counterstrike source golden eye (not anymore but back in the day it was good) quake 3 unreal tourny (i only liked instagib for that one) black was decent, i liked the concept, cod3, halo 1 and 2, the turok with that thing that burrowed in your brain (ok that game sucked but that weap was funny as hell)

I’ve played the hell out of most games mentioned in this thread except for a few and none of the marathon series. From what I’ve seen and heard it was the halo of the 90’s…how come I never heard of it until a few years ago when people drew comparisons to it and halo?
Bungie split (sort of) from ms so they can develop other games, they’ve announced there working on a new game, GI speculates bugie’s reviving the marathon series which has been released on xbla. So a possibility of a next gen marathon game (trilogy?) sounds cool, and bungie’s big announcement was suddenly pulled from E3 due to timing constraints and they’re devoting an entire event to this announcement so we’ll find out soon enough.
Strange coincidence that both marathon and halo games take place in the same universe and that the protagonist of marathon and master chief are related.
For the record I’m not a huge Halo fan but I see the appeal and understand why it’s so popular.

I love counter strike 1.6 so i was expecting a similar speed. But after i started to play UT i felt like my vision was on crack. :bgrin:
