It was indeed a long time ago. I remember having a lot of fun with the casuals that day though. That’s what I miss so much about the fighting game community, or what little I knew of it. I’m also out of school and have a little bit of time to dedicate to it again so I’m trying to get my skills back. I’m planning on taking the it serious enough from here on out.
You guys see this?
Whew! i thought it was gonna be massive, but wow, that number is just… it’s almost unfathomable to me how long that shit is gonna take! It’s gotta be hell for the judges this year.
That’s crazy, I wonder how that will play out. I also hope that the fighting game thing doesn’t turn out to just be a fad in mainstream gaming. Street Fighter IV really brought a lot of people in/back. I know I came back when HDR came out and it had decent netcode, since playing fighting games just isn’t a whole lot of fun without any competition.
I hope the genre remains at least popular enough to see so many new and old fighters released with so many features, and at such a decent pace. I almost can’t believe in just about a year’s time we have got/will be getting HDR, SFIV, Blazblue, KOFXII, and Tekken 6. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like that since the early 2000’s.
So long tangent short, I’m glad that SFIV has 1,040 entrants, hopefully the majority of those players all stick around.
I remember you now! Guilty Gear was done in the back that day, right? You also entered Super Turbo as well didn’t you?
I probably entered super turbo and went out real quick and yes guilty gear was in the back. I believe I won one match of guilty gear and got stomped at ST. I’ve played some form of SFII longer than anything, but until recently it was one of my worst games.
They’ll have to have at least 100 stations if they plan on getting done on time.
I want to know rationale behind the neanderthal face. I understand the hovering 4 inches above the ground concept … sort of but the caveman face:xeye:?
Oh! I actually know something about this, but I won’t go through the lengthy answer (it’ll involve pictures, and other things, maybe a copyright infringement or two), so I’ll give you the jist of it.
Basically, all of Zangief 's moves are preset, with a bone structure that is Zangief 's, that’s what causes Zangief to do all of Zangief 's moves as such, basically, the Zangeif that you see is a “skin” or a “suit” over that bone structure. what it is essentially doing is taking the Zangief “suit” off of the Zangief bone structure, and putting a Sakura “suit” on the Zangief bone structure. However, the Sakura “suit” wasn’t fitted (“Rigged” is the appropriate term) to fit properly on the Zangief bone structure like the Zangief “suit” was, there is going to be stretching, and “impossibilities” that will occur, such as floating on air (because the suit is to small for the bone structure and thus, reaches a limit of how much it can be disfigured).
However, that vaguely explains why her face is like that, and I’m sure you want a better explanation. Well, with 3D modeling, the modeler’s usually name certain peices of an object, such as top lip, bottom lip, teeth, left/right eye, nose, ear, hair, etc, etc. And the bone structure is “bound” to certain parts, so like when Sakura says her opening line at the start of a battle, she’s going through an animation, and in that animation, the program is telling the bone structure to move her top lip like this, and her bottom lip like that at this frame, and here and there on the next frame (just like when you press a punch button, it’s saying ok, User inputted a Low Punch, now you do this on screen).
The same thing happens for Zangief and his opening, his mouth is supposed to be here, eyes here, etc, etc. The Zangief “suit” makes sure that this is displayed (as the bone structure is invisible. The “suit” has also been tailor-made to work exactly with the Zangief bone structure. By placing the Sakura “suit” on the Zangief bone structure, the program is telling the “suit” to put your top lip here, and your bottom lip here, but since the Sakura “suit” wasn’t tailor-made, there is stretching and disfiguring all over the place.
See, all the correct parts are there, and they are in the correct place, it’s just that the “suit” wasn’t designed to fit on the “body (bone structure)” and thus looks…funny. It’s like a person wearing clothing way to big or small for them, it’s gonna look silly, and some stretching is going to occur.
(*Side note: I feel really good that I can type all of that out from memory/my own 3D modeling experience, and can also (hopefully) explain it in a way “normal” people can understand!><)
Dan - hey I got your message. I’ll have you whupping up on my other protege Clem in no time.
Clem - I got another student. E. Honda he says. Who will win the E. Honda vs. Chun Li wars? We shall see.
Anyone doing anything this weekend? I think we all could use the SF4 practice again. It is Evo weekend so if we can’t be there we might as well be playing the game somewhere. I can’t wait to watch the live stream and I also can’t wait to finally send off 3S from the Evo roster! It makes me so happy. Good riddance, 3S!!! :nunchuck:
You probably won’t be seeing me around too much here in the next few weeks, but I may be free during one weekend. I will give you a heads up whenever I will be free. Until I see ya’ll, game on.
EVO weekend already? I didn’t even realize it.
3s will make its comeback one day. In due time, in due time.
Brent- I may be game for some SFIV this weekend. I still need to find my main and I’ve been playing since February. I have to work tomorrow and Saturday until 8:15 so someone will just have to let me know what’s going on.
On a side note, is anyone else struggling with Blazblue. I really want to like the game, but something just feels weird. I played a bit of GGX2 back in the day and Blaz just feels, I dunno more mashy? Am I missing something?
I don’t think I’m “struggling” as much as “I should be doing better”, but I have a >50% win ratio with Nu (and Overall), and I have had a few players D/C on me. This is all better than what I was doing in SF4, and I play the game at least half as much as I played SF4.
BlazBlue definitely feels “more mashy” than say… SF4. But, call me crazy now, I actually like the game engine for Blazblue more than SF4. Granted both games have their faults, i just seems to “get” Blazblue more than I ever have SF4. May be character choice, because if I’m not Nu, I have no idea wtf to do. I want to play some SF4 again, but I don’t know if I’m going to stick with Sagat. I just don’t think at this point in time I have the right skills to use him effectively.
-I’m uber predictable with my projectiles (All games, however I know I’m getting better after playing BB).
-My zoning game def. needs work (Again, both games, slightly improving)
-I’m not 90-100% Consistent with execution (even in a “masher” friendly game such as BB).
-Well, I basicly just need to improve on all aspects of my game, and as much as I hate to say it, I think the best way would be through SF4…
If it’s not Sagat, then it’ll either be…Cammy (No OH though…bad Ultra), Balrog, or the Shoto’s (Ryu/Akuma/Ken, leaning more towards Akuma of the 3). I’ve tried Rufus a few times, but he’s not my character.
I/we need to play sometime regardless, although idk how this weekend will be with Evo and all (I know I certainly want to watch it. At least the Semi’s and Def. the Finals).
Dammit, there I go again with the ramblings…
Tried SF4 again, then I remembered it’s all Crouching block, and faced a Zangief twice that made me spit in disgust at that person, what high level Zangief play looks like, and the game in general. We need to play even more now to get this taste out. I wanna like the game, but it’s just the way some people play it that makes me hate it.
SFIV can definitely be a defensive game. I normally play as Balrog and I’ve had plenty of matches that I’ve won against Geif that were all jump in HP, dash back, rinse and repeat. I’m kind of a turtle by nature so I think the SF games cater a bit towards my taste. I don’t mind playing the rush down game, but I’d rather be able to think and make deliberate moves to pick apart my opponent. That’s why I play Honda in HDR.
I second that we need to get together and play soon.
I have to come to Fort Wayne this weekend to do a little shopping. Since I don’t live in Fort Wayne I have to plan my trips so I was hoping to plan my trip around a gaming session but from what I’m seeing it looks like we are out of luck. Am I wrong?
If anyone can free up to host then post up ASAP. I need more SF4 practice and would be cool to play some ST/HDR with folks.
Brent,
I realize it doesn’t help you this weekend, but I am hoping to host fairly regular nights after I get my house in August. I would really like to meet up with you and play some HDR sometime, but the apartment I live in now is a studio apartment that I share with my wife… it’s tiny.
Ah it’s no problem man. That’s nice of your wife to give you the ok to host too.
I’ll just come to Ft. Wayne tomorrow to do some quick shopping and maybe a movie. Maybe something will pop up and I’ll be down to play.
Dan, you just need an Xbox dude!
ActionHawk: Man, that was a CLOSE match you had against that Dhal. I really thought you were going to take that second match. Very good game play despite what the commentators were saying!!!
Let me know if any of you are getting together next weekend or the weekend after. I’d definitely be in as long as it’s not Saturday. I have a bachelor party to go to that night… why is my life so busy lately? All I want to do is play some games.
As a side note, I missed Sabin getting knocked out of SFIV, what happened?
Not sure. Hey I am sending several of you guys private messages on here so just pay attention and if interested just let me know. Only offering it to certain people. Tim, I talked to you about this on Facebook while watching Evo finals so you don’t get a private message. :arazz:
