Speaking of forgotten characters, I’m glad Gen finally has a revival in SFIV.

Hmmm don’t notice much similarity between characters facials that he did, mind giving some examples?
I never liked Shinkiro’s art at first cuz it was realistic but then I opened up to him.

Yeah, you’d think that just by looking at one drawing. But when you start removing the identifiable aspects of a character, almost everybody he draws looks exactly the same, and most of the time stiff and rigid looking. Admittedly, he has made substantial improvement since he started working for Capcom, but there are still plenty of artists I’d take over Shinkiro any day. I always enjoy collecting character art jpegs by Kawano, Ishiwatari, Kinu, Edayan, Akiman and Bengus. These people understand variety in facial/bodily structure and perspective. They know how to liven up characters with interesting stylization and conceivable gestures. Shinkiro is barely making any progress in those areas, except when he tries to do something different with his faces, they end up looking horrible- just look at bug-eyed Chun and Sak in CFJ. His airbrushing techniques were the only thing carrying his ass for his career. It’s saddening to know how quickly many people are awed by this simple application of realism despite how fucking bland his characters can look. But it’s not for me to say what catches your eye, so whatever.

Karnov. SNK decides to bring one Fighter’s History character back, and they choose Mizoguchi? I mean, Mizo is cool and all, but Karnov is Karnov.

I’m glad Rose is back for SFIV. I always loved that character.

B.Jenet and Hotaru made it into KOF so they haven’t been forgotten. And who can forget them? They’re Garou’s token whores. But more than Garou characters, Rick Strowd seriously needs to bring his fucking self back for a new SNK game.

And they badly need to bring Retsu back for a new Street Fighter.

Rock has never been in KOF either, as far as I can remember. Except for a cameo as kid in one of Terrys animations maybe.

But yeah, KOF needs both Freeman and Rock. They’re both awesome.

Rock was in all the Maximum Impacts. I agree about Freeman though. He is one of my favorite SNK characters.

When you’re top tier and the most broken character in the game, no way are you forgotten. Well, at least she’ll never be forgotten in Mexico.

SamSho characters are easily forgotten. Especially with all the bastards there are in V and Tenka. Seriously SNK? A character based off of Andrew Jackson?

Why the hell not? '94 had characters from Art of Fighting, Psycho Soldier, SNK sports games, Ikari Warriors… and I forget. Oh wait, all the KoF games have these characters. I don’t see what’s wrong with XI adding chars from other games. I mean, KoF DID start off as a crossover game.

Are you kidding? Just look in any gallery for one of his SNK projects, and you’ll notice the only characters that look different are the ones that are old, fat or have their faces covered up. That George Clooney remark hit the nail on its head. When a Japanese schoolboy looks related to an Italian or a couple of blonde Americans, that tells you the effort put in is next to zilch.

I do recall saying he made improvements since he started at Capcom. His TvC art may be his best, but I’m still not too impressed by it.

You said KOFXI isn’t canon. That means as a whole. Console characters are exactly what they are, console only and don’t apply to the story. So I don’t see your argument.

Hidden or Release characters or console exclusive characters can be whoever they want them to be. It is brilliant. That is also likely the logic between Gen and Rose in home versions of SF IV and possibly even Gouken as a hidden boss. More games should do that. So and so died, just make them hidden or console exclusive. They aren’t even part of the series Canon, same.

Except there is a thing called retconning. Which is what SFIV did so the characters they added have a point. Console exclusive or not.
