For those of you that had hopes for the new Fantastic Four Reboot........have a seat

I doubt Fox can even get the Sony deal. Spider-man movies made an assload of money unlike the F4 movies. Spider-man is Marvel’s most popular character so Sony always had that card to play. Fox has no upper hand when it comes to the F4. This movie has made the brand toxic. Considering they need Marvel’s permission to go ahead with their X-Men TV series something’s gonna give.

Sounds like fox came in early and fucked some shit up for whatever reason, then trank lashed out at everyone like a silly teenager, stuff got cut, people got fired, and they tried to salvage it in post production. I’m still partially blaming trank, because him and max landis are mouthy, opinionated, clowns, who i wouldnt put past throwing a temper tantrum because fox didnt see your vision. I doubt his original version was so much better, that i wouldve paid to see this movie, as he was probably just trying to make a f4 version of chronicle, instead of challenging himself.

I’d have to read some f4 and see what kind of stuff they get into, and how this movie and previous ones totally missed the mark. With that said, i doubt trank was going to make the guardians of the galaxy version of f4 for fox, and judging from the casting, was always going to be this moody, grit film.

Its really weird how shitty Fox is in general. I might be lumping too much shit into the same basket, but from the fucking tv shows that are awesome that they cancel, to their long list of shitty comic book movies. I have to wonder who the fuck is running the show there. I mean, how do you even mess up comic book movies anyways. lol. Just hand someone the reading material, say, choose an arc, put a little of your twist on it, and put it in the theater.

Fantastic Four’: What We Know About What Went Wrong

Fox fucked up 4 times and the movie is a PR nightmare. This reboot has betrayed any confidence from critics and casual audiences. Fox either works a deal with marvel or just holds onto a IP that is literally flushing down millions of dollars per movie. It’s a business when it’s all said and done and fox probably knows working a deal is best for business.

This is apparently the reason why Trank got dropped from the Star Wars spin-off project he was suppose to direct. He’s awful behavior during the filming of this movie didn’t sit well with the Disney overlords.

Just got back from seeing this in theaters. I thought it was one of the best Marvel movies in years. I’m pretty tired of watching superhero movies with cities being destroyed and people tossing each other into buildings even though they can’t be hurt. The new Fantastic 4 is a sci-fi film not a comic book movie and I’m okay with that. I’m not a fan of the Fantastic 4 so none of the changes bothered me. The only bad thing about this movie is that Doom had magic powers instead of magic missiles.

Batman and robin is way better then winter solider…what we’re doing joke post right.

Seeing the results of this movie, if they want to keep the rights of the Fantastic Four, the best chance they have is using a more popular franchise as a crutch.

A failed spinoff movie doesn’t ruin a franchise, man.

No but the XCU is inconsistent as it is. The last they need to do is try and attach them to something that they know has failed consistently in the past.

Fox has no reason to WANT to keep the FF franchise anymore, that’s the thing. 3 attempts, 3 poor movies and the money coming in has only gotten worse. It’s not even correct to keep it as a business decision. The only reason they’d keep the FF rights is out of general spite towards Marvel. Otherwise they’re going to wait for this to blow over a bit and then try to pass off the rights as best as they can.

The sad thing is I can see that happening.

LOL the thing is F4 aren’t even really superheroes… They’re a family of adventurers with powers and heavily rooted in sci-fi/high fantasy.

Like, these characters are the simplest shit to get right in a movie… You take the high adventure aspect of the Indiana Jones films, marry it with the sci-fi of Star Wars, throw in a little Swiss Family Robinson, and BAM! F4 movie.

I mean, damn, Lost in Space(the tv series) did this shit right decades ago. Use that as a template, build up that dictator in Latveria in the background by having him and Reed exchange a couple of words in the prologue, do some world-building and have him come in in the second or third film as an antagonist/rival.

This shit really ain’t that hard.

Yeah…but it’s a LOT more slight than I would’ve believed before. If it has performed at least as meh as the previous movies then they’d definitely do it. But this movie is performing SO terribly I don’t think even they can justify keeping it. At this point as a business they have to cut losses, especially now that they’re throwing more X-Men Universe movies out. They can afford the loss of FF right now. They have to wait until after this disaster blows over a bit, but BEFORE Apocalypse comes out. If they don’t get rid of it by then they risk that movie tanking their stock further.

Not to go off topic , but since IMO there has never been a good live action movie and since I havent read any FF comics, I was thinking of getting the FF vol. 2 omnibus

It features FF vol. by Stan Lee/Jack Kirby issues 30-60.

From the description, it seems to have a lot of good stuff: First silver surfer/galactus , inhumans, BP, etc.

Thoughts?

It wouldn’t be to the benefit of fox to keep the F4 IP. They aren’t seem as a trusted brand and the failure of this new movie further punctuates that fact. They lost millions on this reboot and it’s gone down as one of the worse superhero films in the last decade. I can’t honestly see fox hanging on to the rights out of pure spite when it’s costing them so much money.

I’d say go for it. I also wanna read F4 material since i like them alot. Omnibuses the best route. I plan to pick some up. There’s 3 HUGE ones for F4. I say go for it

Red Letter Media Review
"Mike and Jay attempt to see Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, but are unable to. Josh Trank himself buys Mike and Jay tickets to see Fantastic Four. They are the only people in the theater. Not just their theater, but every theater in the nation."

I never thought I’d see the day that there would be a superhero flick worse than Batman & Robin…

Was Liefeld known for tracing people? I thought that was Greg Land. Tracing might have improved Liefelds anatomy skills.

Rotten Tomato reports that Fantastic Four’s opening Box Office Numbers equate to 26.2Million, losing out to Mission: Impossible’s second week at 29.4, solidifying it’s status as a box office bomb.
