Sorry for double posting, but I’ve got an inquiry to make since I’d like to get a Street Fighter Anniversary pad while I’m waiting to find an official PS2 Saturn pad.
To anybody who has the Street Fighter Anniversary pads, are there any major differences between the PS2 and Xbox versions of the pads construction wise? I noticed that the Xbox pads have a flat-backside to them due to the added memory card slots. Does the PS2 pad have the same build? While on the subject, are the D-Pads on both the same in terms of quality? I’d assume yes, but I just want clarification.
I have a PS2 Akuma Pad and an Xbox Bison Pad. The Xbox one is MUCH worse. The D-Pad and buttons are noticeably and significantly worse. They seem to stick up more and are harder to move. I actually get angry trying to play on the Xbox SFAC pad. The PS2 isn’t a god among pads, but compared to the Xbox one it is.
At least for me anyway. And I have 2 of each version, btw, so it’s not just one bad pad. Though it COULD be one bad batch. The PS2 Akuma says 2004 and the Xbox Bison says 2005, if that matters.
Thanks a lot Crisium. Bummer though, the shape of the pads are the same. That flat-blacking on the Xbox pad seems so weird when I try to use it. Oh well. One last thing, are the buttons really supposed to be that stiff? Seems like it takes a ton of effort to press those things down.
The SFAE pads suck, the coolest thing about them is the packaging. I used to always accidently reset SFAC because they put the back buttons right next to the start button.
I’m looking at my PS2 ryu controller right now and the buttons are not stiff. They work fine for their price (I paid $15) but it comes down to your preference. My friend still prefers to use his saturn pad since it feels slimmer to him.
Lol, so you guys were playing SF2:CE with a 3 button pad hitting the start button every time you wanted to change from the punch to the kick buttons? Yeah, that shit sucked.
actually for the longest time I hated that controller for exactly that reason lol. I played the snes version for a long time until my friend let me borrow his 6 button pad for sega. Good times were had.
For fighters? Probably PS2 dualshock just cause of usability. The library it comes with is helpful. Though, i occasionally use PS3 dualshock for computer even though the pad and trigger buttons aren’t best for fighters.
You know, when I was playing SFIII3S today at school, I couldn’t help but notice how vastly different the quality of the DualShock series controllers are when I was trying to do Chicken Wings. I mean, the PS1 era DualShock has such a springy and responsive D-Pad that never really “stuck” or felt gummy when you pressed it down. It has a nice, responsive “click” when you press down on it. On the other hand, you’ve got the DualShock 2s, which seem to have a much less durable D-Pad than on its predecessor. And I don’t even want to touch the DualShock 3’s almost worn-rubber like D-Pad feel. Does anybody else have this sort of issue or is it just me?
Everything on the DualShock is solid except for that stupid segmented D-pad. It’s responsive and all, I just can’t hit diagonals so it limits me a bit. I haven’t touched a PS1 DualShock in about a decade so I can’t say…
