PS1 d-pad will give you calluses but is better than the PS2 d-pad. The PS2 pad is garbage for fighting games. Believe it or not, someone not using their controller of choice is a valid reason for losing a fight. If you give me the POS that is the PS2 pad I will lose. I love QCFx2 on PS2 actually being a SRK, this loses me plenty of fights.
I’d be interested to know if anyone actually modded their PSX controllers to have a different D-pad. I haven’t actually looked at the internal workings, but judging by the overall shape and size of the D-pad itself, I’m thinking that one would be able to dremel out the restricting plastic between the cross points and replace the segmented cross D-pad with a pre-Gamecube Nintendo controller D-pad.
…Damn, I HAVE to try that!

is the Dpad gonna be the same as this one?

It’s been bothering my for awhile. The picture doesen’t look the same. But I would love it if the dpad directional pad will be the same as (pic 2).
best fighter controllers (best at top):

They only made the thrustmaster PC controller with 6 face buttons for a short period, then they switched it to 4 face buttons and added analog. The 6 button one was awesome for fighters, but not very durable. I went through one every couple of months. Luckily they were very cheap.
Markman said that will be the final design (the first picture posted). The second picture is a prototype of the pad.
i’m a big fan of the 6 button genesis pad. also liked the snes pad. the n64 was actually ok. i never could get used to the dreamcast pad. killed my hands. led me to buy my first stick which was the dreamcast agetec (aka green goblin). god how i loved that stick with mvc2. anyway i never got to use a saturn pad but i just ordered one (usb for my ps3) and i am anxiously awaiting it. i love to fight with sticks and pads (weird i know).
edit: from what i understand, since i loved the 6 button genesis pad back in the day, the usb saturn pad will be just like old times!
Eew… So it’s gonna be a typical Directional pad then… Not a smooth circular clicker… Such a waste >_>
I don’t know, that final design looks fairly atypical to me. It’s impossible to tell from that picture what kind movement the d-pad will have. It looks like a photoshop mock-up to me.
Hooray, another person that actually liked using the N64 pad for fighters! Now I know I’m not crazy!
TheKoz is right, the first pic you posted with the disc-mounted D-pad is the finalized design. I don’t quite see any reason to complain since it’s been reported that the Madcatz SFIV FightPads are essentially the Saturn pads reincarnate even down to the clicky shoulder buttons like you’d find on computer mice. And since the Saturn pad is universally considered by everyone who’s tried them to be in the top tier of gamepads, I’d say that’s a good thing.
Man, ASCII really did make some great gear when they were still around. I never knew they made a turbo SNES pad though. Neat stuff! And it seems like PC controllers are really popular as fighting game pads. Personally, I haven’t really tried to play on one myself (can’t see myself doing so anytime soon either ), but hey, whatever works for you folks.
for the most part i can’t stand d-pads that don’t have diagonals(unlike the saturn pads that do have em).
weird though is that the gamcube d-pad felt fine to me though, sure it’s small but it works well.
the logitech precisions/rumblepad2 are great controllers for 4 buttons, but i’ve had the same problem with em getting sticky because there were holes in the rubber. tried to use glue which helped for some time(like a week) until the glue fell off D: Would be amazing if their rubber wasn’t so cheap.
Its time to make a SHOW UR CUSTOM GAMEPAD!..nah jk
But the best Dad to meh has to be… NONE…
Every pad has its flaws but i Perfer using the xbox 360 controller… yea i said it
the 360 lmao. Its wayyy comfy in your hands. sure the dpad is shit, but going from 360 to anything else u feel just how shitty other pads (ps1-2-3) etc.
I had a saturn but i wasent a major fighting gameoholic then, so i will be checking into that if the SFIVpads sucks cock.
Dreacast prototype lmao
Nyko Airflow
to me , the dreamcast one is perfect for fighting games… i’m very confortable with it :wgrin:
@ikagi, I guess I’ll trust you on that one. I was plannign for a stick but I might jsut make one myself. And I got no space in my room either.
all about the ps1/2. ps3 has gay triggers.
oh i should probably add that imo the 360 controller is the very worst for FG.
seriously, who can play with that d-pad. And analog is just a no no when it comes to FG.
FrankenPAD:
Wii-mote D-pad, Saturn 6 button set up, 360 buttons, and Dual Shock shoulder buttons.
I really liked the DC pad.
It’s alright. But definately bad. Tip is to use the tip of the dpad to make the response more accurate. But I’m happy that I’m somewhat good with the Xbox 360 controller. I can pull off Ivy’s Summon suffering like nothing.
But still, I will never recommend a Xbox 360 controller for FG’s.
So im looking to buy a pair of ps2 pads with 6 front face buttons for use with sf4 and tvc (with joybox converter). What would be my best bet and where would be the best place to buy one? I cant seem to find any ps2 saturn controllers.
