For pad players: Your gamepad of choice

how much would you guys pay for a ps2 saturn pad?

Hi all.

I know it is still quite a ways away.

But my old favorite was the JPN Sega Saturn control pad (I have a few original ones, some for PC and one for PS2). It is REALLY solid and is IMO the standard that all fighting game pads should be based off of.

My current favorite… You guys will see… The Street Fighter IV FightPad.

Shameless endorsement much, eh MarkMan?

No really, I’m greatly anticipating those SFIV pads and from reading into your post, I can infer that my wish that these things live up to the quality of the Sega Saturn pad will come true. Now if only these things had a magic button on them which would make Segata Sanshiro come back to life. By the way, any chance you can disclose how (in your opinion) the SFIV pad’s D-Pad compares to the feel of the Sega Saturn and the Nubytech SF Anniversary Pad?

Honestly, my opinion.

>>>>> The Nuby Tech pad.

vs the Saturn, it’ll probably come down to preference.

I say probably, because I know how good the Sega one is.

And yes. Very shameless, but hardly an endorsement.

I really hope it does turn out good.

One thing that some pads have easier than others is the ability to press two horizontal buttons at once with one thumb. As in for EX moves. I don’t think the Xbox 360 or PS3 buttons are good for it, so I hope you guys use your own custom buttons that make EX moves with 1 thumb easy. This often gets overlooked as the d-pad is the most important, but don’t forget about the buttons. Settle for nothing less than the best. If you can’t pull off EX moves 9/10 times then it’s not good enough imo.

i forged my thumbs of steel with a ps1/ps2 dual shock pad until i wanted to step my game up and now i use sticks.

I know MarkMan makes it all look really simple and it’s understandable that some of you may be confused, so I just wanted to for anyone who is mistaken or unsure.

damnit!! i wanted this pad and didnt even know it was released…

I use the Logitech Cordless Action Controller

I honestly can’t find anything wrong with it. Oh, it uses batteries
Best pad I’ve ever used.

Never heard of this…I’ll look into it though. Dual shock’s lack of diagonals is a huge letdown for me

Same here, I love those.

I also have a few logitechs for the old Xbox which were really nice. 1000 times better than than any xbox controller.

I have a Nyko-Airflow PC pad that I really like. It’s set up just like a PS2 controller, but with vents, and a fan to keep your hands from sweating. Also, I think the buttons, pad and sticks are a little more firm.

If you’re in a place with lots of wireless interference on the 2.4 ghz band, the signal is not nearly strong enough to hold its own. Compared to the 360 controller, it’s way weak. The Sega Surf Wave, a wireless pad for PS2 that was only released in Japan, is FAR stronger. I find the Logitech wireless products crap out way too easily. At least controller-wise.

I have a Chinese dual shock rip-off (Double Shock Power Pad II -lol- by Astro Pad) with 6 front buttons. I was wary of it when I saw it for the first time but it’s quite good for fighting games.

Man! Now I want Ascii FT2 Pad and a Neo Geo Pad 2! But they’re SUPER RARE. I’m glad I got my Saturn pad. I like it but my friends don’t.

If you’re looking for the ASCII Arcade Pad, you can still buy some brand new here:

Just note that Toys N Joys is out of stock on the ASCII Pad Capcom version, so you’ll have to stick with the SNK version. They also have this peculiarly awesome Guilty Gear pad which has the 5 GGXX buttons in the rainbow format. Neat stuff. They also have some Street Fighter 15th Anniversary pads, Akuma and Ken versions in case anyone’s interested.

I stopped using my Dual Shock 2 when I got that pad.

The d-pad is definitely good, but I found that when I went back to the Sony brand for the PS3 that my fingers liked the buttons and the sticks a lot better on the Sony. I’m still mad at them for never making an official wireless DS2. The only one that got me to totally swear off the DS2 was the aforementioned surfwave.

Can anyone confirm if the PS2 ASCII pads have a crappy D-pad? I’ve heard that they’re a far cry from the DC ASCII FT that they’re built to replicate. Any opinions?

Worn in DS2.

This is a odd button mapping for a Controller
