I just got the game on ps3 and I was wondering how was the online gameplay for everyone for both ps3 and 360. With people/friends I know live close to me the games are flawless, but when I go to aa quick ranked battle the gameplay gets shitty. Maybe the people are across the world and that why there’s a shitty connection. All but 4 lost I have are because of super laggy match when people are popping in and out of the screen! I wish they had a way to put the nations flag by the players name! Atleast you would know if you are playing against someone in europe or south america. We all know how bad the connection is with SA players from playing on ggpo and 2df. I would personally aviod play them if I could because I’ve never had a good connection with SA players! Talk and discuss.
i’m having an incredible blast on the 360 version.
after i fixed the smoothing, it was too good.
tons of great games in player matches.
What did you set it too? I know its on medium on defaut. Should I set it on high?
So far the 360 version is better.
i tried “low” and there was the occasional rollback; i didn’t account for people with crappy connections, so i left it at “medium”.
It’s been top-tier thus far.
after 2 hours playing people from west, central, and east coast in Player Match, it was too good.
:lovin::woot::lovin:
my verdict?
XBL >>>>>>>>>>>> PSN
I guess it depends on what you value more.
Better online play- 360
Ability to use those PS2 controllers- PS3
I don’t have a PS2 or a PS2 stick anymore, and my job makes offline comp impossible to get most of the time, so 360 for me.
That win with everyone acheivement is really killing me though in terms of losses. I suck with Hawk bigtime.
I’ve been having verrrry occasional difficulty connecting to games on PSN. I’m on an internet connection that’s generally problematic… shoddy Canadian cable, haha. GGPO and 2DF have almost always worked fine with me though.
Is it just my personal connection, or is it actually PSN? Have any other PS3 users been experiencing this? What about on 360?
I don’t really mind it, it happens rarely enough that it’s hardly a bother, but slightly more often than I’d expect for the normal frequency of people randomly quitting while they wait for an opponent.
I have 360 joysticks. I played the ps3 version for a few hours at a friends house, then came home and played on my 360. Seems like the 360 version has better online play, so far.
I don’t really get this. Wouldn’t the games networking code be the same for both platforms? So wouldn’t that code dictate how the game plays online. The only difference, it would seem to me, between PSN and 360 would be the community tools, aka 360 might be easier to communicate with friends and join games easier.
But how would the game play differ online with the 360 and the PS3? Realistically the game data sent over the internet is all peer to peer, so the gameplay code is probably the same. I couldn’t see them writing extremely different code for both systems unless the PS3’s architecture required it.
Is that wrong, or is there something I am not accounting for? While I do program, I don’t work on videogames so I could be way off here.
I had fantastic games on PSN. Guess I will have to get the 360 version later today. Except that I have no american sticks for it which sucks.
That’s a gross oversimplification of the process. There are lots of factors that could affect the connection internally, or it just might be less players/ more geographical distant connections creating lag.
I am aware of all that, but all the things you stated (short of number of players) isn’t really platform specific. So saying ‘X’ is better would be more stating opinion than fact.
Although the 360 had a beta, so there could be bugs they ironed out with the beta for the 360 and then bugs/issues might come up after release that are PS3 specific. So the 360 version could very well be more polished and ‘play better’.
Getting a true apples to apples comparison, in terms of which plays better online 360 vs ps3, would take a bit of work. And in reality I don’t think many truly care enough to attempt to setup an apples to apples test.
Regardless I hope they patch the game because there are some things that need to be fixed, but in all honesty I doubt a patch will be released. Hope I am wrong.
Of course the only reason I am even typing this is because I am killing time until I get home and play the game… tick… tick… tick!
EDIT: I should stop because it makes it look like a care which one is better, but in reality I don’t. I just like to dig into the logic of people who make comments of ‘X’ is better than ‘Y’. Just see what turns up. The person might be right… might be wrong.
The most obvious difference between the two is that the 360 version uses Xbox LIVE’s servers, whereas the PS3 version uses PSN’s servers.
The game is most likely peer to peer. I wouldn’t imagine that they are running dedicated servers for a game that has max of 6 players.
So how would XBL’s servers make a difference? I honestly don’t know, not trying to be a dick here.
Yea, I’d assume is was peer to peer too. I doubt the servers would have much if any effect on the game.
I already like this post… detailed!
I learned something from your post; so thank you :).
After lurking here for years, I’m glad I can give something back.
So anyone know which version will be used at Evo? PS3/360?
PSN is great!
