They probably said that to appeal to the masses. Fighting games really aren’t for everyone and many people are already complaining about how technical it is compared to shooters.
So Tekken isn’t a fighting game because it had a beat 'em up mode? Come on. 1v1 are a fighting game. 2v2 are a fighting game. And 4v4 are built on the bases of duels. Just play it and you’ll see it’s not a shooter, it is more like Dark Souls PvP made into a fighting game which was already very FG-ish.
What is this need people have to call every 1v1 melee combat game a fighting game? “So what if it plays out more like an action game? It has x number of things fighters have, so it’s basically a fighter.” Maybe these games take influence from a number of genres? It looks to me like they tried to make something that was a combination of Chivalry and Dark Souls and it worked out well. There could be some smattering of FG philosphy in there, but that doesn’t automatically make it a fighter.
I feel like matchups are going to play a big part re:Nobushi, characters that struggle with stick buttons are going to have a bad time, characters with good answers are going to ruin her day because she’s so easy to outspeed. I main Nobushi, and she feels pretty amazing far as how much space she can control and threaten, but Berserker in particular gives me a ton of trouble. I don’t think Berserker is particularly impressive overall, but Nobushi is really linear and Berserker has gangs of lateral movement.
I’ve been alting Conqueror. Still trying to figure out if he’s good, particularly in 1v1. In 1v2 or 1v3, if you can tech throws, you can waste everyone’s time and get stocks of revenge really easily, but I have trouble getting offense in 1 on 1.
Unrelated, this game reminds me a lot of Gundam Vs, which is probably why I’m so in love with the 2v2 format, but stamina management feels really similar to boost management, and kiting one of your opponents into a bad position definitely translates.
wtf, as a Berserker the Nobushi is what gives me the more problems because of the range (and because half of the people play it). Maybe I should just side step (more) often.
btw I feel they should remove the stages with a bridge on it in duels, or at least make it so that you don’t start directly on the bridge. Throwing someone in environmental hazards should imho be the reward for being able to conquer space and corner the opponent, not something anyone can do it right from the beginning. It’s like you’re suddenly playing a totally different game compared to 80% of For Honor, a game which reminds rather a fps or a coin toss than a fighting game.
(And no, I’m not saying that only because Froztey won a match by throwing me 3 times on the same stage even if I was up 4-2)
I think the Nobushi would have less people hating on her if she didn’t apply extra damage when her bleed is on the opponent. She already has a dodge that cancels into her bleed 2-hit combo and a LOT of both offensive and defensive options to apply her bleed and extend pressure. I’m a Nobushi main too and I think she’s gonna get a little adjusting when the game releases. LOTS of people are crying about her.
I agree with the sentiment about the Berserker giving Nobushi trouble. Berserkers have a lot of horizontal movement options, they can cancel heavy attacks into side step attacks and they have a deflect into guard break > mix up. Keeping them out is tough, I definitely think the Berserker is the worst assassin in the beta though. I played every Viking character to level 10 because I love the aesthetic but they all kind of suck apart from the Warlord, who is super super linear.
Ledges in duels are one of the reasons it’s so fun, one mistake and you’re dead. You get punished for fucking up your defence. Removing ledges would just remove fear factor from the stages and make every match a linear swordfight. You just bitching because I throw you off every ledge I can c:
EDIT**
And guard breaks aren’t a coin toss, you can visibly react to them. They’re slow and you have to condition your opponent for it to land. Learn to tech, you didn’t tech me once lmao
It’s kinda like saying removing IK in GG would just turn it into a fighting game.
(Except landing an IK in GG is extremely hard)
It’s not even a reward for “fucking up your defense” since it beat blocks and one tech too late you’re dead.
If I wanted to play one hit kill matches revolving around a single button I’d rather pick an FPS.
Sorry you’re right, it’s a pinball sim. /s
I mean the OHK stages are even pretty small in number, if that was meant to be a vital feature of the game they should just make them all like that and strip down the movesets to just X, and at that point you would rather be playing Divekick or Señor Footsies instead.
So you know that if you tech a throw as the Berserker and I’m the Nobushi I have to block, you get a free light attack off because everything else I have is too slow, and you can even knock me off with a tech because there’s pushback to it. Just because you can’t tech doesn’t make the ledges a gimmick
so much incredible dominion fights!! if dynasty warriors adopted this camera, combat system and graphicals, it would be the ultimate action game.
I’m still sloppy with the parrying, I’m gonna try to read their moves better, there’s a lot of cases where I could easily block their moves, but I get the habit thinking every single attack is unblockable, so I end up lowering my guard when I could perfectly block their normals.
dominion is sloppy and chaotic, 2v2 is probably the best mode in the beta because it isn’t one giant contest of numbers and who has better co-ordination
The problem is that all fights are P2P, which works okay for 1v1 and 2v2 but becomes a mess in 4v4 unless the host has amazing connection. I hope they end up having dedicated servers.
