For Honor launched - happy Valhallentine's day!

If you didn’t roll a character in Dark Mist (it’s a MUD), it means not to me.

Nonsense aside, it’s a D&D term – much like everything in gaming, it all comes back to D&D. Although I don’t think “assassin” was a term then. You could custom role an assassin class, but it wasn’t a role.

Gimme them off-topics!

Are people really making unprovoked and aggressive “kids these days”-posts in a thread made for discussing a video game? -.-

Also I got a beta invite from a friend, woo. But the key hasn’t activated yet, boo.
Ubisoft plz

the melee combat is AMAZING!! Koei should learn some things about For Honor with its camera, combat system, defense, offense, graphics (both models AND enviornmental details).

the only thing is that the beta when I played it last night, the matchmaking has errors and issues, I got some duels going, but have yet to play a domination besides the tutorial having a bit of domination objective gameplay included.

this really should turn into an ongoing series. the industry is oversaturated with shooters and this is the one game that does melee combat right and more realistically, while being understandable and fair learning curve.

the customization is AWESOME too and there’s so much layers of depth to its multiplayer scope and rewards.

the story is refreshing and innovative too

As far as the beta dictates thus far? Yes.

This character is OP as hell and nobody is playing him/her

So I was reading, if you force someone to block a heavy attack, you’re + to the point where the guard break is guaranteed and they have to attempt a throw break, creating a mixup really heavy in your favor because your lights should outspeed their throw.
Not sure if that’s class specific though, but I plan on messing with it when I get back on the game tonight.

I think this game has a future competitively and its in 2v2. 1v1 is pretty good, but the added factor of managing your position with your partner’s and trying to create 2 on 1s is a lot more interesting than duel.
The 4 on 4 dominion just feels a little too chaotic for me personally.

Throw tech window in the game is retardedly small, makes most guard break attacks a guaranteed hit

“Pushing opponents into fires. Time to break out the marshmallows!
This is a deep game. I think Ubisoft has a hit on their hands.”

"VERY different. This game is more like a fighting game than Mount and Blade. Spend a few hours dueling and you’ll pick up how many nuances there are in the combat system. It’s extremely deep, with every usual fighting game mechanic on top of the Soulsborne-esque character control. "

"From what I’ve played though I’ve had an absolute blast. It’s a fighting game in chivalry: medieval warfare’s clothing. The gameplay variety in terms of characters is INSANE. No two characters feel the same during combat, and I think that’s what surprised me the most. "

"Tried out the 1v1 duel mode. This is a FIGHTING GAME.
Although not as reaction and execution focused. It’s simplified and more about mind games. As someone who struggle to keep up with the complexity of most fighting games, I am really digging this.
Guard break really isn’t a big deal. You get a very long window to deflect guard throws or just quick attack to prevent it. It’s much easier than throw teching in most fighting games.

“this game man…this game is hype as f***. i can feel myself getting better every match i play.
I’m all in on this.”

“Having an absolute blast playing this. Was looking forward to this and i’m glad I wasn’t disappointed. Picking this up day one for sure.”

“I liked the combat, feeback is good, directional strikes and guards is a good idea and IMO is well implemented here, makes for some great intense 1-1 fights.
The salt is real in duels.
I live for this s***.”

“This game looks absolutely insane on the PS4 Pro. And those animations are fantastic. I’m a bit taken back by how fluid, polished and high quality everything feels.”

Would be hyped for it this weekend but no beta code for me even after signing up for it pretty fast.

“Shooting aside, Overwatch follows MOBA and not FPS conventions”

More seriously, you’re acting like 1v1 isn’t the “main” mode while the entire game is balanced around 1v1 fights (if that wasn’t true there would be some classes that are unable to fight alone). Having 2v2 and 4v4 modes doesn’t change the fact that duels play exactly like a traditional fighting game - you need MU knowledge like in fighting games, it’s RPS based like fighting games, you need to know spacing like fighting games, there’s frame advantage like in fighting games etc…
It’s unconventional, that’s for sure, but that doesn’t mean it should be stripped out of the genre. Why would it be less FG than Pokkén? Because it doesn’t have phases on a 2D plane?

This looks fun, I’d try it if I had the beta.

Now this we can agree on at least.

Now that I see that you can deck your stats out with gear, I’m more into this. I wouldn’t want to go into a MOBA without being able to make choices that change my playstyle mid-game.

I’ll check it out.

See this is what letting Smash kids into EVO has done to us.

I think gear only matters in 4v4 dominion mode. In 1v1 and 2v2 abilities are also disabled, where in 4v4 you can unlock them and make different builds for your characters.

It’s like 20 times more FG than Smash.
The 3D plane is also kinda an illusion, since you’re locked onto your opponent most of the time and the main thing that matters are the three directions of the block.

I would only expect the team PvP stuff to be disabled in 1v1. I am only interested I. The MOBA aspects, hence my concern that characters could not be customized.

About the “MOBA” part (= dominion), I’m able to give more infos now. 4v4 dominion battles take place on a field with 3 objectives, two of which are capture points and the other one is a front (where the “MOBA” minions are). Each player therefore has to choose whether to attack the enemy point, defend your own point or go kill the enemy mobs to help your own take control of the battlefield.
You have 4 abilities you unlock as you progress in level, which you do by killing enemies, reviving your allies and (I think) capturing objectives. They can go from passive buffs to active AoE buffs or flaming projectiles that kill all mobs in an area.
Gear is effectively off by default for both 1v1 and 2v2.

I finally managed to get the hang of the controls and once you’re in it the duels really feel amazing. I’m maining berserker, love all the defensive options it has between dodges that cancel into lights, deflects and (universal) parries, the fast spinning zone attack and all the armored top attacks. However as expected Nobushi are really annoying for them because of all the long range poison attacks that prevent them from getting in. Classic MU between zoner and rushdown character lol. A lot of people seem to be picking Nobushi too.

Is there a place that has more advanced information on this game?

So I’m maining the Nobunaga, she’s ridiculously fun

Best thing are videos on Youtube I think.

not sure if this is legit

" RKFXFQG436W6 code can be used 500 times :stuck_out_tongue:
Log in with your Uplay account, select the platform you wish to play on, and redeem the code above to unlock your access to the Closed Beta. You will get your access key and more information by email.

I’ve been weeding through those for a while now but the most information I got from them is what the controls were. Too many casual videos to find the good ones if they exist.

It’s limit was reached.
