For Honor launched - happy Valhallentine's day!

That’s what you’re supposed to be doing. You have mechanics for running away like a coward. The in-game instruction video tells you to use them to run away like the bitch you are after making someone bleed. You have a sprint attack that causes bleed, making it even easier to go for drive-by blood drives. The character is designed around being a dick.

At low levels you can totally do that. Scrubs gon’ scrub. Except that square is guard break, so you probably want to mash R1 or R2.

Fun fact addendum: Miyamoto Musashi was known as a physically large and powerful man, hence how he could swing a sword in each hand without significantly diminished power. I have not seen a single account of the dude being over 6 feet tall.

i beat the game, so try again sweetie :bee: :coffee: :cybot:

Playing a Warden as the Kensei - 2-0 to me.

He writes in chat between rounds -
“wow I can’t guard break counter you after my zone attack?”
“needs patching ASAP, Warden is so bad you suck”

as I’m responding to him he comes and throws me off the ledge clearly seeing I’m typing, I tell him it’s punishable and that it’s a super good move even if punishable because of range/top light feint
he calls me a cunt when I beat him and that if his controller wasn’t broke he’d have wrecked me and that Warden is the worst character in the game

GG my dude.

holy shit no way you must be the worlds best

Best game cause saltiest game.

Clearly not. It’s exactly like a fighting game where mashing mindlessly will lead to big punish, even worse because it’s stamina based and once you run out of gas you’re stuck with defending until you get the full bar back again.

It’s like the best elements of the Souls community combined with some of the FGC.

All the Souls players are fucking confused and the FGC heads seem to be bopping everyone because they’re used to the concepts within the game.

so what’s the kensei’s bit
why play him over warden

Best range of any vanguard hero, 2nd hit of light chain is really fast, forward step light attack has insane range and good speed and initiates chains, he has a step > guard break(only him and Raider have this), side heavy and spaced top heavy make parry > guard break whiff, only non-assassin hero to have a side-step attack, top heavy finisher is actually a good mix-up tool with plenty of cancel and bait options.

Main reasons to play him -
Ridiculous range on everything, the cherry blossom effect is cute c;

He’s anti-meta.

Him vs. Warden the strengths are divided between them depending on what you want. The Warden wants to stay within touching distance and enable his shoulder charge mix-ups, the Kensei wants to create that gap so he can initiate with safely spaced heavy attacks and quickly close space with dash > guard break/dash attack or side heavy > feint.

Depends how you want to play, reactively or taking the initiative. Kensei would be Ryu, Warden would be like Alex or maybe Zangief, actually probably Laura because that top light is basically a fucking 3f.

Trying to find a compliment to the fat boy for team game modes. I enjoy shugoki 1v1 but he’s so slow it’s hard for me to deal with multiple people at once, and just traversing the map kinda takes a while

For Honor is great because it has certain elements of a fighting game that will blow niggas who don’t get it right the fuck up. Which is no more obvious than with how much bitching Shugoki gets at low levels of play for being OP because people haven’t figured out the concept of baiting out punishable moves and not charging at the giant dude with hits of armor. I fucking suck, but at least I understand the systems involved enough that I maintain a roughly 75% win ratio. However, its weakest points are also that it doesn’t feel as competitively tuned as most fighting games. Hence a lot of small nagging issues, like way too long round timers, infinite sprinting in a game where some characters are so much faster than others and therefore can’t be caught, heavily skewed risk/reward for some characters, and a relative problem with space control and pressure. Even in 3d fighters, slower fighters generally have ways of getting faster characters in the corner to keep them from running and zoners have ways of forcing you to come to them.

Also, Souls players crying because rolls are not god tier defensive options that can be cancelled out of everything is hilarious.

Oh cute, you want team synergies? The Raider and the Shugoki are fucking hilarious.

You can do Raider forward throw > wall slam into the Raider knee stun > Shugoki follows up with backbreaker.

It’s more that I want someone who can effectively run away and gank, or backcap stuff. Shugoki seems too slow for that, and his slow normals (i guess that is what youd call it) seem to be a liability if there’s a 4 man melee going on. I had a lot of fun playing with a friend with both of us using peacekeeper in 4v4 and as soon as the round starts immediately bum rushing a 3rd guy.

The Kensei is probably a good fit then, he has the speed and range that the Shugoki lacks. He’ll be able to trap opponents because of his effective range.

Either that or just any assassin because of their sprint speed.

So Conqueror indeed talks German and not Latin like Peacekeeper and Warden. He says something like “her fliega” which might be interpreted like “get out of here”.
It makes sense after all since European knights mostly came from Germanic countries.

I thought the Kensei’s top heavy finisher was a meme move but it’s actually got really fucking good mix-up options. Kensei is legit good, just lacks a bit of speed but in return gets absolutely immense range and doesn’t get as strong of a mix-up game when close like the Warden does.

The balancing in this game at least in terms of what each character should be weak at/excel at is REALLY well done considering it’s the first iteration in the series and has to establish completely new ground for every character.

EDIT**
What’s everyone thinking about character strength? I wanna hear some other viewpoints.

I want the Berserker to be better. I may also just suck.

Shugoki is slow as fuck but maaaaaaannnnnnnnn the damage when you land.

I still think poorly of the Valk, but I’ll give her another shot.

Conquerer is pretty fun.

I think the Berserker is a bit too susceptible to parrying, and he should have his stamina costs lowered slightly so that he doesn’t fuck himself over feinting the opponent. That would let him pressure properly. Apart from that though the Berserker is really good, he can stamina drain you really quickly and gets some cool combos from guard break stamina drain forward throws.

Guard break > forward throw(stamina drain) > top light > top heavy works as a combo for instance.

Yeah I’ve seen people win doing nothing but heavy trade > headbutt as Shugoki and doing the non-mix-up mix-up of doing charged heavy to screw over the opponents auto-pilot parry timing.

Valk is a mystery to me also, there just aren’t many online right now. Majority Warden/Orochi, I rarely see other characters.

Conqueror is cool. My 2v2 partner plays him. He doesn’t play fighting games though and just got used to doing heavy > shield bash whenever he lands a heavy attack because it worked against bad players, so if he plays anyone who knows to side step it he just doesn’t adapt to them because it works against the majority. Makes me sad.

just realized shugoki can throw people off of ledges with guard break into side heavy
Also some of the ring outs are pretty generous, knock someone into a wall near a ledge and they get sent sailing to their doom

yeah if there’s one thing Shugoki is godlike at, it’s sending someone from the middle of the arena straight to the cliff in one parry -> grab

When you catch someone from behind as they 1v1
