Okay, so this is not a fighting game. It doesn’t matter how much you talk about footsies or whatever. Not that it’s a bad game, mind you, quite the opposite. But it’s not a fighting game. It’s fucking Dark Souls with more in-depth PvP mechanics and less RPG. Everything that has in-depth combat mechanics or mindgames is not a fighting game.
You are a Raider! Legendary! I must defeat you! I must defeat you! You are a Raider! Legendary! You are a Raider! Legendary! I must defeat you!
I would argue that Smash has way more of the elements you would traditionally associate with a fighting game than For Honor does. Not that it matters, since classifying the genre isn’t all that important compared to if it’s fun to play.
4v4 is very strategic and measures higher skill levels. already examples of 1v4 wins.
even Dominion is strategic and skill based too, people underestimate how valuable it is to capture and recapture b zone. and use the side paths to reach the C/A zone and capture it, lots of ways to turn the tide.
1v1 can be very skill based on strategic, however at the sametime, its a lopsided and at times very predictable competition depending on skill levels and stuff.
it takes more strategy and skills to win a group or large scale war, than it is to win a duel. and more unpredictable and lots more factors going on.
1v1 basketball sure doesn’t require as much skill and depth and strategycompared to 5v5 basketball.
I sure will buddy, it’s most definitely a Hack n Slash with crossover from action, fighting and adventure. Keep fighting whatever good fight you want to though, the back and forth between what is and isn’t a fighting game is fucking annoying.
Online seems to have already have that Warden meta I was scared of, lots of Warden’s using top light/zone as their basis of poking with shoulder charge/shoulder charge guard break cancel for mix-ups are lurking. It’s a problem.
Even the sources you bring up literally talk about it as a fighting game. Maybe you should stop trying to see it as Dark Souls PvP and start understanding why everybody else perceives it as a fighting game.
tl;dr take the L
It’s a fighting game in loosest sense of the word in that you fight people. Otherwise it’s a hack n slash. It holds far and few similarities to games that built up the genre “fighting games”. I don’t categorise this game as a fighting game, it’s a Hack n Slash just in the way that Chivalry is. Souls isn’t either.
Debate with me all you like, I honestly couldn’t care. It’s not a fighting game to me.
