Flaws of MvC2 and what Capcom should learn

it’s not ‘wrong’ per se but if you saw someone refusing to play basketball because they didn’t like the color of the ball you’d probably consider them to be ‘fucking retarded’

it is when you’re posting on a forum which is supposed to be about playing the game for the game and not for the pretty colors and cool animes

i wonder if legendary game designer david sirlin plays better when wearing a snake shirt

alternatively: what about a dragon shirt?

First off, the game shouldn’t have a distinction between a character which is viable and a character that isn’t in the first place, because an unviable character is simply a waste of space. If I don’t like a character, I shouldn’t feel like I’m missing out on a part of the game because of that. EVERY character should be “viable”, no matter what level I’m playing on. I don’t particularly care for being the best in the world, I’m a casual gamer who just enjoys playing fighting games, and I personally would like more balance in this particular game. I didn’t realize that I was a fanboy for thinking if I choose a character and like the way that character looks, I SHOULD be able to play with that character and not worry about someone winning just because their character was programmed to juggle me in the air for 2 mins while being invincible and shooting an unblockable projectile that covers the screen. That’s not fighting, that’s just “let’s see who can set up for this glitch or unexplained perk first.” There are many games that feel more balanced and are still complex and in depth without being cheap.

My comment had nothing to do with playing the game for “pretty colors and cool animes”, though if I want that in my game then you have no reason to disrespect my opinion like that. Last time I checked the visuals were part of the game. If it wasn’t important, we wouldn’t play with sprites in the first place: just hit boxes. I mean, it’s Comic Books vs. Anime Video Games for christ sake. How many people do you think picked that game up who didn’t check it out at first for “pretty colors and cool animes” anyway? The animations matter. The visuals matter. It’s all a part of the experience.

actually, you’re terribly mistaken

Naw, you are. I mentioned it, but that was not what my comment was about. It was about being able to freely choose whoever you want to in a game that features that character. If the character isn’t needed or not viable unless you’re one of the best in the world, then why are they there?

plenty of games do
it’s your problem you feel like that
we can tell you’re a casual gamer
good thing no characters in the game are programmed like that, stfu
it is fighting
good thing that’s not really what the game is about. if you keep posting idiotic stuff like this, that’s why PBD responded like he did. and many more will, if you’re just going to start doing the scrub/troll thing.
then go play those supposed games

The complaints about balance were just as absurd 8 years ago as they are today. Practically every balance argument is defeated by re-releasing the game with the following changes and nothing else:

Congratulations, you now have a varied and complex game with 25% of the characters in the top tier and an extremely competitive second tier; one of the most balanced and diverse games in existence.

Leave the double snap & infinites in… Wasnt the 2-in-one a glitch in sf2?

Leave the spin/dizzy-out after 40+ hits and if you really have to fuck with that throw combo-breakers in that require 2.5 or 3 bars out of a 5 bar super meter system.

People want a real MVC3 not Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter II

Also MvC2 (mechanics/feel) >>> TVC.

I still don’t understand why so many people bitch about Marvel like it the only unbalanced game in existence. I play Megaman most of the time and I know my chances against Cable are slim but I try to figure out new ways to compete instead of bitching about AHVB. I can’t even really think of a truly competive game in existence that doesn’t have some balance issues, including Madden. If you hate God tier play so much don’t play it, Marvel will still have enough people to support it besides the ones complaining that it’s a assist happy, tier whoring, button mashing (Which I don’t get because Magneto takes hella skill) abomination.

If you don’t like a certain character, and refuse to play that character as a result, then by definition you’re missing out on part of the game, because you’re not playing every character. You don’t get to cry because of a problem with a character you picked. Pick a different one if you’re not satisfied with your choice.

And it’s not as if tiers are even remotely relevent at your level of play. To this day, my brother regularly beats me with Ryu/Ken/Akuma.

that game looks really good.

the guy before whining clearly u have no experience playing fighting games, i cant think of another fighting game without useless characters. i played talim in soul calibur 2, she got nerfed in sc3 and 4, i just changed characters.i played sheik and peach on smash meele, in brawl they got nerfed hard, i changed characters. i played chun in every SF dont like her in sf4 so i changed to boxer. i play ling in tekken, if i decide to invest time into the game i will learn a good character. i guess instead of moving on and adapting i should go on forums and whine. or play pong.

btw u say ur a casual gamer, so go online and see how many different characters other casual gamers like yourself are playing. the so called top tier whoring can only be clearly seen in competitive play, and its the same for any competitive game.

Yeah, people who say shit like only sentinel has unfly should stick to talking about games they know stuff about.

It’s still fucking terrible that that many characters in the game aren’t viable at all. I agree that the complaints about the roster imbalance are overexagrated, but the game still does have problems. When 75% of the roster just isn’t viable there is a fucking problem. Then again it doesn’t personally seeing how I only like playing as two of 15 and for the most part most of those are really only good as Assist.

the amount of irrelevant characters doesn’t mean anything since, get this, they’re irrelevant

alternatively what is zero multiplied by any number

I still don’t know what the 30 useless characters in mvc2 have to do with mvc3 since they’re making the game from the ground up. It goes without saying that the designers aren’t going to try and make a bunch of characters no one will use.

*MvC2: Tournament Edition. *

I thought MegaMan would’ve been one of the ones to keep, though.

Heres an idea why don’t they make that game and the opposite one. (where the X’ed an un X’ed people are switched) and just stick them in as game modes.
The tiers have been locked for years right? what if MVC3 added a DLC that separated the two sets into different modes if this problem occurs again. vs mode, high tier vs and low tier vs mode.
Tournaments could be run in an mode the organizer wanted and if people playing casually didn’t want to deal with whoever ends up on top they wouldn’t have to.
It seems like an incredibly simple way to stop a lot of bitching without changing the game at all.

They should look at the assists and offer more variety. Also, take out the “Launcher” assist. Who the hell is really going to use that? I like the idea of buffs. Great things to add would be super armor, power up, speed up, etc. Capcom could make them 5 second limits that can’t stack on top of each other so you can’t be in the buffed mode indefinitely. Another way to balance it would be to cause a debuff at the same time (You have super armor, but slightly slower. Stronger, but less defense.) And overall I like the idea of having a longer cool down time for assists. I definitely don’t want a limit to how many you can call, but preventing the spamming of quick assists (IE: Psylocke) would be great.

Whatever they do, PLEASE buff up the Capcom side. The only viable ones are either used as assists (t. bonne, Commando), or extremely assist dependent (Strider, Megaman). Give Chun her air super back but make it level 3 or tone down the damage. I like the idea that somebody mentioned about comboable overheads which would greatly benefit Shoto’s and Charlie, just to name a few. Take out the joke characters (Roll, Servebot, Dan) and replace with more interesting Capcom people. At least buff them up if they’re going to stay (Servebot take more hits if he’s so weak, Dan be the best battery when he taunts, Roll be different than MM). Evil Sakura should definitely be a lvl 1 change.

IMO, characters should not be able to fall out of Cammy’s and Spiderman’s supers. That’s the most retarded thing ever.

I think you’re completely answering my questions with different variations of what I’m asking, so here’s this: It’s obvious I don’t know everything there is to know about the game, and I’m really just making my own opinion from what I can do in the game and what I’ve seen based on that. Maybe I’m just not understanding what is skill and what isn’t in the realm of MvC2. Could someone enlighten me without calling me a troll? I thought this thread was about the flaws of MvC2. If the things I mentioned are so clearly not flaws and I’m simply being whiny, how am I wrong? I’m honestly open to anything constructive when given it. I’m not trying to insult anyone’s favorite game or anythin.
