When is this event usually held (at least what month?)? I know a few people that would be interested if we can fit this into our schedules. Thanks in advance!
Most of the people that played in the cvs2 tournament also played in the mvc2 tournament. It’s a bullshit reason not to play cvs2 on the dreamcast IMO. CvS2 and MvC2 on the DC are the closest console versions to their arcade counterparts. People are just fucking lazy and use to the PS2 version now.
CvS2= the only game people don’t care if it’s arcade perfect.:looney::looney:
I’ll put it on the ps2 because most people want to play on the ps2, but the reason you posted isn’t valid imo. People just wanted to play the ps2 version, so i’ll give the people what they want.:wgrin:
That would be funny just to see what happens.:looney:
In the spring sir. Most of the times in april, but last year we had it in march. As soon as I secure the hotel I will make the official tournament thread.
Noted, and i’ll pm you.
We will need more than 1 person running a tournament so maybe you, J, and someone else can run cvs2.
I can do it, but I can’t do it unless I get sponsership, period. A madden tournament would prolly be as big as all of the fighting games combined. The "How to act during a tournament" video would be a great idea.
P.s.-***The rule *** is 21-0 not 28-0 in madden.
If you need someone to help run CVS with Dream and Calm let me know. I help calm run brackets in Orlando from time to time.
People decided to switch CvS2 to PS2 because it’s more convenient. The only reason DC still exists is because of Marvel. If the PS2 Marvel was decent, we wouldn’t need DCs anymore.
However, the PS2 CvS2 is just as good as the DC CvS2. Neither one is 100% perfect but both are extremely close.
The DC version is a little bit slower than the arcade and the PS2 version is a little bit faster.
At least, that’s what I remember Renegade saying a few years ago.
Since more people have PS2 sticks it’s better not to have to deal with converters if you don’t have to…
Yea, they say it’s slower, but it’s not. They are just use to the ps2 version now. I agree that the dc would be dead if they made a good version of mvc2 on ps2, but that doesn’t change the fact that there’s nothing wrong with the dc cvs2. Both***(mvc2 & cvs2)*** are naomi games and the dc is a naomi system. CvS2 isn’t like the sf3 3rd strike DC version. Or the sf2 ST version on the DC. You see those games were emu’s for a totally different system they originated from. (ST=cps2 and 3S=cps3) The converted the cps2 and cps3 games on a naomi system, so of course they aren’t close to the original’s. That’s not the case with cvs2 and mvc2 IMO. I personally think people don’t want to play on cab’s anymore. If I had 6 arcade cab’s with cvs2 (3 cabinets with sanwa joysticks and 3 with happs joysticks) people would still complain because they are use to the console version now and use to using their console sticks.
I understand your point about people not having dc converters, but that's not a good arguement when more than 60% of the people that played in the cvs2 also played in the mvc2 tournament. Just say you prefer the faster ps2 version with the option to use a roll button.:wonder:
P.S.-I did say that cvs2 will be on the ps2, but there will not be any button mapping on any capcom tournament game. It’s always been that way and it ain’t going to change.
ST will be on the cab’s unless the stHD is an arcade perfect version(or very close to it like mvc2 and cvs2 are on the dc)
I’m going to buy some sanwa joysticks to put in one of my machines, just for the people that whine about joysticks. The main thing to me is making sure I have enough tv’s/systems to run every game in a speedy time limit. The ps2 version of cvs2 makes it easy for people to play and get in and out faster than the dc version. Setting buttons due to converters is a pain in the ass and eat’s away at tournament time:arazz: Also we waited untill the mvc2 finals was over before we started cvs2. That pushed us back an hour 1/2. Didn’t want to fuck up the mood/hype.
do it…
i will also supply ps2 and a copy
CVS2 is much better on the DC, Shinblanka already reiterated this. All Naomi games are slightly faster on DC, and this includes CVS2. CVS1 was the very same way.
I think one reason why CVS2 is on PS2 and not DC is because it never came out in the US on DC. EVO had CVS2 on DC for at least one year (2004), but I am not sure about the rest…
shinblanka: Looking forward to your PM. I have some questions about bracketing by region/seeding…
I’ll field this one - check your PM’s.
DC CvS2 is unusable if only because you can’t taunt without the risk of pausing the game, and forfeiting the match.
Tactical taunt is a real, useful technique in CvS2, and DC doesn’t allow for it.
That alone makes PS2 the only version I’d use to run a tournament.
Plus DC’s die all the time in the middle of tournaments, and the player base of CvS2 and MvC2 isn’t as crossed up as you think it is. It used to be, but it’s not really anymore.
I wanna help out with FRXI SNK again!! :lovin:
Glad to see this thread up!!
Props to Larry for running this every year
My suggestions:
Last Final Round there was the big projector set up in the middle of the room doing basically nothing (3s Casuals…) until it was time for game finals…
Why not set up a cheap laptop to it and put up the names of peoples that are to play next in their respective games. This way people can visually check if they are up next. This of course assumes there is a practical way for tournament directors to quickly give information to someone sitting at the laptop… Or hell even putting up the brackets and just updating them and letting them cycle would be cool too. Or maybe just set up the “Next Matches” for the bigger tournaments that are more difficult to organize.
And bullhorns all around.
Me and my brother will definitely be making it again to Final Round. FRX was way to awesome… dood.
