Uh, the store?
Let’s play theory fighter!
I think CoD v Squall is a pretty shitty matchup for Squall if he doesn’t have that lightning spell equipped. He doesn’t seem to have much that can get in on her long-range tentacle attacks and the huge AOE one just kills anything he tries. he’d have to do some good dodging to get around her.
but then again i’m basing this off of a few matches with a decent-level ai. anyone who can play with actual people want to test this out?
is this game getting a US realease?
Mid 2009.
So how good do you guys think this game is? I mean it looks pretty cool, but is the combat deep enough to stay interesting over a long period of time? Is there any custom combo making, and how is the balance between the characters?
I would thank anyone that could answer these questions, since I’m thinking of getting this, but I want to know if it will be worth it before throwing 200+ dollars to get it and a psp.
You get two battle tracks per game and the music is remixed depending on how old they are, it seems, so about 75% has been remixed, every track from the FF 1-6 batch have been remixed, the only unremixed tracks are FF7’s One Winged Angel, FF8’s The Extreme, FF9’s Boss Battle track and both of FF10’s tracks, Otherworld and it’s battle music. The remixed tracks for 7-9 are 7’s Boss Battle music, 8’s Battle music, “Don’t Be Afraid” and 9’s normal battle music. There are also two extra Dissidia tracks which are decent, the main theme and some vocal track for the Cosmos side.
i’m not gonna lie, the game looks LESS fun when you’re both lv. 100 and can raise your brave to 9999 in a few strikes… is there a way to play at lower levels while still having all the skills available for your character to use?
Ugh the Chaos bossfight is bullshit on a level the game hasn’t put me through before. Fight against a boss with arena-encompassing attacks on the smallest arena in the game, who can bring you to Break status in one move and has various hard to dodge HP attacks, one which involves him teleporting around the arena? Attacks with super armour on them?
Did you un-equip all of your items? Also, don’t use any of the level 100 “EXP to ***” skills. I’m not positive this will help, since I just got the game, but it just makes sense to un-equip all the gear.
How do you open up the yellow squares on the overworld?
Also, what’s the significane of the item you pick before each fight?
You don’t pick an item before each fight. The screen prior to the fight just shows you your opponent’s stats/equip.
Finally beat Chaos and unlocked Gabranth. He’s kind of cool, at a low level he’s not much in normal mode but in EX mode he’s faster, his Circle string is a lot longer and takes off a lot of Brave, and he gains a couple of HP attacks. Being able to charge the EX gauge helps him a lot.
You have to beat the story mode of the character once and then when you play it again, the yellow squares open up.
I see, thanks guys. Lol, I figured it gave you a list of items to use one in the battle, deffinately hard to understand though, Japanese everywhere!
Even though I spashed the cash I’m not watching any cut scenes or listening to any of the voice acting. It was fun in Crisis Core when I could actually get some idea what was going on each time they said “Genesis Clone.” I even managed to put some names to the Japanese text, like Fire/Blizzard/Thunder (a, ga) etc. But this is just far too much text and far too many menus to handle, so I’m leaving at least something for the US release.
Shame translation takes six months…
It’s supprising, but this is a case where I’m actually fond of Tidus. I hated FFX with a raging fury, but he’s actually really fun. Got some good long range attacks and is fast too, he’s fun. It’s also supprising that I don’t like Squall (being such a FFVIII fan) right now, his design sucks compared to others and his basic move set is rather dissapointing compared to the opening character (fuck knows who he is, I’m a >VII player). Here’s hoping he gets better…
Also, is there any FFX-2 (Yuna) FFXI (???) and FFXII (Vaan) refferences? I was really supprised to see the chapers end at X, XII was boom and it’s not like they haven’t got a model to work with lol…
Gabranth from FFXII and Shantotto from FFXI are bonus characters, unlocked after beating Story mode. To be exact, first you have to beat all 10 of the hero’s stories, then beat the new “Shade Impulse” story that unlocks. Easier said than done since the game takes off the kid gloves and stars kicking your ass. Then after beating THAT you unlock three more stories, two are called Distant Glory and the last one is Inward Chaos. One of the Distant Glory stories unlocks Shantotto after clearing it and the other unlocks Gabranth.
Squall gets some decent moves as you level him up, his Thunder spell is great because it draws people in and there’s normally enough time to get a free Brave string off, which really helps in some matchKUJAups.
That’s dumb, I would have thought they’d at least fill it out till the end of the PS2 era. Saying that, that’s all there is to work from really, seing as the series pretty much ended there (dispite CC/RW). Maybe it’s because of Revnant Wings, or maybe they wanted a I-X thing, which clearly it isn’t (:/) having Gabranth and all. But Vaan deffinately should have been there, the game was damn epic, more epic than X by a mile. And it’s called Final Fantasy!
So, what’s some of the other junk in the PP Shop? I see 500PP characters, not sure what anything else is, worth getting out? I think I’ll probably keep the supprise of most of the extra characters for the US version, but any other gameplay elements that are there I might buy.
I’ve been playing around a lot with Exdeath as of late. Talk about painful to level up, but I’ve gotten to appreciate him after playing him so much. He’s the ultimate bait character, with his guard attacks being able to punish Brave attacks like nothing else.
The problem is, he doesn’t really have an answer to enemy’s HP attacks since all of his attack options are so slow. Especially after Jecht. Good freaking lord, Jecht.
Easily my favorite char so far. Butz was awkward as hell to play and no, he isn’t actually a Charade-style character. He’s got his own moveset altogether.
The 500PP characters are the bad guys from each game. However Shantotto and Gabranth both cost 1000PP each for whatever reason. Chaos and Cosmos are also unlockable eventually as CPU-only opponents. There are also alternate outfits for each character, ie Cloud getting his Advent Children look and Squall getting his SeeD outfit. Also there are voice sets for each character. Along the other tabs you’ll find things such as being able to increase the level cap for the CPU (?), alternate versions of the existing stages that introduce Smash-style stage gimmicks, new character cards and other fanservicy crap.
thanks fot that info…I’m probably going to have to give the soundtrack a listen then.
What order do the stories take place in? Watching Terra’s makes it seem like Cloud and OK’s stories are already over and done with, but watching Cloud’s made it seem like the various players were still jockeying for position.
