Final Fantasy Dissidia thread. Sequel announced!

I don’t even know what’s going on in the story… Don’t really care right now to be honest, not like I can get much out of it…

The game was initially conceived after the end of FFX, circa 2001, so it was only supposed to be FF1-X included. Shantotto and Gabranth were obviously added much later as bonuses to help fill out the end of the series to date, sorta.

I see, that’s still dumb though, seeing as XII is two years old now…

I still have no idea whats going on in this game lol

They all got invited to a tea party, got high on coke and had an orgy. After that’s where the story takes off…

CoD, Ultimecia, and Terra must REALLY be hurting after that then…

EWFUCKNOSHANTOTTO :shake:

I just checked. You can play at lower levels (with the Handicap option before the match) and still have all your skills. My suggestion to you, in order to increase match length, is:

 1. Lower the level of both characters (try 1, 10, 20, etc. I don’t know the best lvl).

 2. Un-equip all equipment, (or only have both characters use the same +HP armor).

 3. Do not use any EX abilities. You probably shouldn’t use the lvl 11 “Auto Parry” Support ability either.

 4. Don’t use Summons.

Doing these 4 things should increase your match length greatly.

 1. Final Destination.

I knew that was coming. But, I was not making rules, I was just stating the best way to increase match length.

That’s kind of how it starts out, though.

It also seems just a tad obnoxious, even though I know you’re not trying to be, because a lot of the people in this game won’t even have the game for 3-5 more months since they want to wait for the translation.

Let’s not turn this into Super Smash Brother Neutered Mix just yet.

I mean, hell, do you even know what all the Summons do? I don’t know ANYTHING about Summons and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had played around with Cloud of Darkness lately. I’ve been becoming interested in her “character” after learning that she’s basically just another version of Famfirit.

Also, any news of Firion? He seems like the only character in the game who (on the hero side) who regularly attacks from a distance due to being an Archer. I like that.

Summons have some effect on the Brave stat. Summon, or at least the ones I’ve gotten, activate automatically once certain conditions are met, such as hitting 0 Brave for instance. There are summons that, for example, boost your Brave to a certain level, but lock your Brave at that level until the summon wears off, or one which reduces both player’s Brave to 0 when triggered, so if triggered in a combo the next hit will Break. One summon steadly drains the opposing player’s Brave when triggered, which can be very annoying to deal with.

CoD is essentially the game’s Dhalsim. Despite being billed as a projectile character, her melee attacks are very good, with lots of range on them. One of her melee attacks is in my opinion so goddamn good it’s top tier in itself.

Firion isn’t really a straight archer, he uses a variety of weapons for his attacks. His aerial abilites aren’t much so he’s much better suited to the ground. His first Brave attack, where he grabs an opponent from a distance, draws them in and then punches them, is pretty damn good at getting people into Break status early. However if the opponent has EX mode ready they can just activate after being drawn in and then own Firion.

Ex mode activation is pretty damn dangerous in itself, since it not only acts as a burst but has autoguard frames on activation too, allowing you to just blow through moves and counterattack. Comes in hella useful against Chaos.

I see where you are coming from, but my suggestion was ONLY to Leebee Link. He asked how to make matches longer. I am not suggesting these rules to anyone else, and I don’t use them myself (With the exception of “No Equip” and “Same lvl”).

Also, the best translation compilation I have found:

Firion is actually a “Weapons Master” and not an Archer. He starts with all long range attacks, but he learns some close attacks as he lvls up. Also, he is supposed to be a ground-based character; his air attacks are terrible.

Lol summons.

Ah, thanks.

Hmm…so Cloud of Darkness is basically Dhalsim? Figures, considering I normally don’t like Dhalsim. Oh well, I’ll probably try everyone except for the people from FF7.

Since people keep saying it, on average, about how many new techniques does a character learn between Lv. 1 and Lv. 99 (which is the maximum one, correct)?

Ah, I understand now. Sorry about that.

Ah, right, I forgot that.

Oh well, like I said above, I’ll still give him a try. I’ve been trying to make myself jump less in fighting games anyway, so that’s something of a plus for me.

Speaking of ground games and FF2 characters, has anyone played with that Emperor guy? I’ve literally heard nothing about him, though I haven’t really looked at places besides this thread.

Lol at that Brave switch. Did you intentionally get your Brave so low?

Also, Ultimecia’s EX Mode looks awesome.

Dammit.

I uploaded a shitty video of CoD if you’d like to see here. It shows off some of her big range melee attacks as well as that FUCKING huge AOE aerial.

Level cap is 100 btw. Characters don’t really learn that many techniques it seems. For example, my Squall is about level 72 yet has learned roughly 7 new techniques from level 1 to his current level.

Kind of wish I never bought it now, CC was really enjoyable in Japanese, but this is pretty much unbearable. Hey well, you live and you learn… Roll on the western release…

this game should really get an HD version for the PSN, like wipeout :frowning:

Speaking of Summons, I didn’t realize that until rewatching it half of an hour ago that

Geez at 0:13. “Exacting” my ass.

Is there a way to not get hit by that if you happened to be the spherical AOE?

Ah thanks for the correction about the level cap.

Anyway, I had figured that you would only gain access to 8 or 9 techniques, which is good since it means that even at low level you should still have a good number of your techniques without having to unlock everything.

Is it unbearable just because of the Japanese?

oh i’m not just trying to make battles longer; i just think some settings (which obviously aren’t broken) just make the fight more dumb… i.e. summons

it’s like cards in Bleach DS

Matches are going to be decided in a small number of blows between two even characters, regardless of equipment. It’s just how the system works- One break tends to put the opponent’s brave just shy of your Max HP, assuming everything else is even and nobody’s been zero’d out by a summon or something beforehand. The game’s all about getting those blows anyways, since most of the cast is really mobile, and blocking is so powerful against Brave attacks that you don’t want to just spam 'em out until you get a hit- you usually eat HP attack in your face in response for most blocked melee-range Brave swings. It’s not easy landing hits on someone who knows what they’re doing.

As for Summons, Summons add strategy to the game beyond “Try for HP attacks when safe to do so/successfully bait a guard, otherwise try to poke with safe Brave attacks” with characters that don’t really get safe Brave attacks like Cloud, WoL, and Garland getting left fishing for openings. Some of the summons are high-class cheese (Manual-activation Carbunkle, I’m looking at you) but it’s just like MvC assists- some are really really good, some are really really meh.
