Does this game work on a regular PSP or does the PSP need to be modified?
Is there any place I can see a translated transcript of the JP script?
Even if true, unless the JP story GREATLY differs from our versions, Terra still never backed away when she was needed by people she cared about. Unless in the JP version she flips Celes and Sabin the bird or covers her ears saying LALALA I CAN’T HEAR YOU half the game. In which case, Ted Woolsey really was trying to save Square from itself.
Hell, even that JP reviewer I quoted a page or two back recalled how he felt Terra’s “delicate” image seemed off. /shrug
Been playing the shit out of this the last two days.

This one is against an AI Zidane that’s higher level than me. Lose in the end because my gear is shit and I forgot he built up a huge amount of Brave.

This second video is of me playing a buddy on ad-hoc party. A bit laggy but workable enough. Apparently, he played a smoother match with someone else today before it got wonky. The replay videos don’t show the ad-hoc slowdown though.

AFAIK, there’s been only one game released on PSP that has regional lockout, so no, you don’t need to mod or import a PSP from Japan to partake in this game.
has anyone ever thought that maybe terra is MORE the worried type now because everyone around her in this game are power houses?
I remember reading something along these lines, a long while back somewhere, I don’t remember the site anymore sorry, however it was a posting of the differences between the characters from the japanese and english versions. Problem was, that back then, subbing wasn’t always made to be as accurate to the original as it is today in comparison.
However, to be perfectly honest, I never really liked Terra as much as I liked Celes anyhow. Cyber is right on the portrayal of Terra within Dissidia being closer to the original japanese version of Terra’s persona and most would have to agree that this would be the more canon Terra.
Yup! You’d be surprised how often people get the two confused.
I’m more interested about her link to FFIX (if any, maybe it’s just FFIX paying homage, who knows). You know, Zidane and Kuja are from the planet Terra, and when they go trance they get the exact same effect Terra does when she transforms. Etc etc. I’m playing through VI and IX again to remind myself of things because I’m forgetting alot though. Oeilvert is a hella interesting place…they don’t explain enough!

agreed, before I knew she could trance I knew there was a link between these two games, which was solidified when I realised that she has the same name as their planet

Some of the basic abilities translated by some dude at GFAQs. Also, Ex-Mode activation seems to act as a Burst, and has autoguard frames at the beginning of activation it seems. There are other moves in this game that seem to have autoguard too.

Again, I never said anything about her “backing away”, just that she was, basically, much more demure and unsure of herself in the JP version. Character-dynamic wise, she’s still basically the same girl in both versions of the game, she’s just “worded differently”, if such a thing makes sense.
It’s kinda like how Paula was portrayed in Mother 2, vs. the American translation of Earthbound.
When you first meet Paula in EB (where she was held prisoner in that weird, KKK-like village where everybody is obsessed with the color blue), she basically stated that “I’m glad you made it here, otherwise, I would have attempted to blast my way out of here”.
The JP version, different story. There, she basically said that “You’re finally here…if you didn’t come any sooner, I would have been crying.”
Same girl, portrayed slightly different ways, for two different audiences through translations that worded her quite differently. This sort of thing was pretty common, especially in old 8/16 bit era RPGs.

It’s a translation patch, that basically does more to “restore” the game to its purest form, by doing more to stick with the original JP script instead of Woolsey’s translation liberties. Of course, you’ll have to find the means to use it for yourself. :wgrin:
That said, much like the “Chrono Trigger restoration” patch that was released a while back, it’s definitely a thing that it will have to be an acquired taste. Say what you will, but Woolsey’s translations of these games were a part of what made them so memorable in my opinion, and these “restored” translations don’t have quite the “oomph” (thanks to usage of Japanese in-jokes that most English speakers won’t get). So I appreciated the differences, and what we missed, but I still prefer Woolsey’s wordings overall.
But if you really want to get a good idea of how the Japanese got to know Tina/Terra, and the rest of these characters, this is the best way I can think of.
Of course, you have to remember that “Terra” is NOT her Japanese name. It’s “Tina” over there. Therefore, as far as the JPs, and the original script of FF9, are concerned, there IS no link.
If Zidane and Kuja have any relationship to another character, it may actually be through Garland. To this day, it’s still not 100% sure, if the “Old Man” Garland that was in FF9, was the same dude from the first game or not. It’s hinted at, throughout FF9’s story, that Garland tried to take over the planet of “Gaia” thousands of years ago, but failed, and so had to go with a contingency plan that involved using Kuja and Zidane, the Genomes, to try and “get 'er done”.
So, it’ll be interesting to see (ideally, once I get the damn game in my hands) if there’s possibly any special dialogue exchanged between Kuja/Zidane and Garland. It’d be a nice lil in-joke, at least, even if it doesn’t do anything to confirm/deny one side of the argument at all.

I’ll never understand why submissive girliness is so attractive across the ocean. Well, actually, I’m sure I understand why… but I don’t like it.
And I, too, am a Woolsey fan. Shadow Madness notwithstanding.
Alright, onto other characters:
Jecht: I love how he looks, how he fights, and how he knows he’s cooler than over half the cast.
Tidus: I’ve always liked Tidus, and his acrobatic swordplay is really well represented.
Kefka: Has the best winpose. Ever. Lying down in midair, scratching his ass. My hero. :tup:
Kuja: I get this impression that he plays something like a Magic Drive Sora that can fly.
The stages in this game are HUGE. I remember seeing a Terra vs. OK video where she was super-high off the stage. Rail grinding is nice.
I still don’t like the “random battles” portion of the game, though. I would have preferred to just get on with the cutscenes.

Her attacks work on delays. If you ever played Devil May Cry, think how melee strings are used in that game. The hugeass AOE one is probably her best melee attack.
how do u play with the bad guys
so how’s the music so far in this game? I can catch glimpses of the sountrack at times between the constant swords clashing and chaos that goes on amidst the videos. Are a good deal of them remixed or did they do copy pasta?
Buy them in the PP shop. They cost 500PP.
Me vs a Cecil AI. Just goofing off for the most part wanting to destroy crap in the level. Poorly lit though, a bit difficult to see sometimes. Didn’t edit the camera angles any so…you know.
