Final Fantasy Dissidia thread. Sequel announced!

Yeah, his EX mode is a Master Class.

I’ve been watching some Terra story vids on YouTube.

Add to my long list of people I want to punch in the throat: the guy who made Terra put her hand to her chest almost every time she speaks.

You mad?

Nub girl is nub. The universe is in balance. She would’ve been that way in FF6 if not for the limitations of sprite animation back then, that much is almost certain. Actually, it’s the only thing I don’t hate about her. Of course, the fact that she’s a nub-esque, gentle character is partially what made her a whiny quitter, but eh.

As for Cloud, yeah they’re totally are trying to make him parallel Gilgamesh. Which is fucking awesome and they should continue to do so. Much more interesting than old-school Cloud with just one big sword.

blond for the first 6 games? first hero had silver hair like seph, second had short silver hair, onion has blond hair, cecil has silver (part blonde?) hair, butz has short black hair and terra has blond

i don’t know why i bothered with that

i noticed that they made cecil have a tint of blond in his hair in FF4 DS, i dont know why but it is

no cause cloud in the flashback was shitting his pants cos he promised tifa that he’d come back as a hero/soldier like sephiroth

well cloud did have different sized swords in the game though, a katana, baseball bat and some other odd shaped ones.

What does his promise to Tifa have to do with anything? And anyway, for someone that has not actually played FF5, you’re arguing this a bit far. Just trust me on this: They don’t act anything alike.

To be fair, though, Butz is flat enough that you could almost project a personality onto him.

coming from the guy who likes Rinoa? LAWLLL

((LOLOL INTERNET FITE)

nobutyeah i’m really enjoying the way they’re fleshing out various characters’ fighting styles (exception Terra)

YEAH BUTZ MUST BE CLOUD’S BORTHER GAIZ

/connectingeverythingtoFF7

LOL, Rinoa’s not a whiny quitter though.

shrugs

butz might be clouds brother? im not talking about this thing story wise you know  I don’t think I can explain it properly so I wont bother :wonder:

edit: im crazy wooooohuhuhuhu :looney:

While we’re still talking Butz here’s another gameplay vid form me I don’t think I posted: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WnxbFUDcBD0&feature=channel

Butz v Squall. They’re at higher levels now so you get to see a little more of But’z moveset, and his alt costume.

Thanks, but all I get is an image with 4chan’s logo.

so whats the story of this game?

I don’t like this random encounter nonsense in Story Mode. Fighting dummy versions of characters just to grind and reach the next cutscene doesn’t strike me as particularly fun. I also really hope that a VS. mode lets you choose max level versions of the characters; one of the reasons I like fighting games over, say, PvP in an MMO is that I don’t have to level up Ryu to “prove myself.”

I do have a long list of throat-punchees.

I doubt that she would’ve been that way, given that while she did often lament her existence Hamlet-style and was rather indecisive at first, she was never the shivering coward Dissidia wants her to be. It’d be like of Sephiroth suddenly started talking and acting like Wolverine. Terra was a soldier. Confused? Yes. Cowardly? No. Nothing in FF6 ever established this. Impotent? No. Same reason.

Not that I’m against her being bested and needing help, but in Dissidia it seems to happen WAY too often (intro video and many storyline scenes). That and the whole “delicate mage” thing; they didn’t do that to Squall, given how he’s represented to be a swordsman who dabbles in magic, and they shouldn’t have done it to Terra given how she’s represented to be a soldier who wields melee weapons along with magic powers. She looks, sounds, and feels OOC in Dissidia, and I’m not certain I could say the same about the other characters from what I’ve seen and heard so far.

Then again, I will admit that, yes, limited animation of the SNES era may have hidden these qualities, and I’ll entertain the notion that Terra is in fact exactly like Dissidia represents her, but I’d need to see more evidence from FF6 to support this.

Even though I hate FF6, I have played it like fifty-bijillion times, so I’ll play the characterization game with you for a bit.

NOTE: Since I have the feeling SE is about to pull an Aerith/Kain and officially change the name, I’ll now be calling her Tina in my posts.*

Tina was always nub-esque, from what I remember. Didn’t want to hurt anyone, more concerned about finding love than anything else in the world (even when said world was going to hell and they needed her to man the fuck up), and always kind of timid and passive. She was never very vocal about world-saving, sought advice from others, and didn’t think much of her powers.

She was a soldier…but she was brainwashed into most of it. The only time she was a stonefaced killed like Ashe or Lightning was when she had the Slave Crown on.

That said, I’ve always felt Tina was a big wuss when it came down to it. The biggie being her not manning the fuck up when Celes and the crew say “Yo, we’re going to fuck up Kefka, nigga went crazy with his death laser and that’s not cool.” But even before that, the signs that she was a big girly wuss were always there. Hell, you don’t even have to look hard to find them.

I agree, and then I disagree.

While I do co-sign the notion that Dissidia’s representation of her isn’t as OoC as some would think, I don’t think of her as being so much of a “wuss”.

After Gestahl took her away from her Mom, she was always raised to be a weapon for the Empire. The Slave Crown didn’t make her a stone faced killer, it just made it so that she would follow Kefka’s orders to the letter. Then meeting with that Esper changed things. It gave her free will back, but it also wiped her memories clean of everything that she knew from the 18 years of her life prior.

So, I think it’s understandable that she has some severe emotional and psychological issues. You’re not even sure completely of who you are, what you are…and then you have a bunch of people who want you to use your powers to blow stuff up. For some one suffering from a rather dire case of “Cammy-syndrome”, I think Terra/Tina got adjusted well enough.

Then later, by the time of the whole “Ruination” of the World came about, she ended up finding a new role as being the protector of those children in that one village. From there, she had two things that were working against her: she was still confused about what was going on with her, and the first time that Phunbaba attacked the village, she was largely rendered useless. It wasn’t until Phunbaba attacked again, and she actually knew what was going on within her ("BY JOVE, it was LOVE ALL ALONG!), that she was able to understand what was up. THEN she was able to fight again, and earnestly.

So, in the end, Terra (after her mind-wipe) was just the classic amnesiac that had to find her new “niche” in the world. Indecisive? Confused? Self-depreciating? Sure. But “wuss”? I wouldn’t say that.

They could have reverted her name in the GBA version (where they reverted her mother’s name, btw) but didn’t. Still, with that “Terra” in KH they just might.

Timid and passive, perhaps, but she didn’t run when she had to fight. Ever. Even if you refuse to help the Returners, she still protects Banon all the way to Narshe, and still fights off the Empire. There wasn’t any part in FF6 that she let anybody down without good reason: in a coma, out of her mind, de-powered after the world ended, and in that last case she STILL went toe-to-toe with Phunbaba/Humbaba despite having temporarily lost her edge. She wasn’t about saving the world as much as saving who she cared about, true. Neither was Cloud, who openly admitted that before delving into the Northern Crater.

She seemed pretty willing to cross the line when fighting off imperial soldiers sent to apprehend her, and, as mentioned, never just turned tail when she needed to fight, except when disabled (see above) or facing impossible odds (surrounded by all sides, and even the bravest warriors know when to retreat). Those signs that she was a “wuss” aren’t signs I’m seeing. And if they were there, given my track record of finding fault even in things I enjoy (FF6 has lots of problems), I’d be the first person to admit them.

Her Dissidia representation still screams OOC to me, like she was made all “ideal Japanese submissive girl” because they couldn’t do really do it for the more demonic looking ladies like Ulty or CoD, or for Mog-wannabe Shantotto and, dammit, they needed to have at least one such character, or they wouldn’t feel right.

I’m wishing more and more often that Umaro was the FF6 rep. At least I’d get to see characters all surprised that they’re fighting some freaky snow-powered sasquatch. Or Edgar, if for no other reason than to clash his Chainsaw into the Masamune.

Do you think she isn’t a good character, or do you just dislike her?

I just don’t like her.

It probably also has to do with the notion that she WAS portrayed that way in the JP version of FF6. The JP script, overall, had her being much more “demure” than perhaps either of the English translations did, so there you go.

As far as the Japanese players are concerned, she’s pretty much being represented in the way THEY remember her, at least.

Maybe they’ll change her characterization around at least a tad for the US release. Cefca/Kefka’s JP lines in Dissidia are definitely NOT the type of mad clown-style zingers that people would probably expect of him (coming from an English translation of FF6), so he’d probably also benefit from such a change.

And there you have it.
