That’s not true at all, PSP is the second highest selling machine in Japan. It’s also a strong performer in every other region. Anything FF has done amazingly well on the PSP, with Crises Core at 2 million+ worldwide. Of course if it came out on every other system possible, it would do better(what wouldn’t?), but being exclusive on PSP isn’t a bad thing by any means. Plus being able to play it online via PS3 is a huge bonus.
While true, Kefka would have been in a worse situation, having been…
Kefka
Spoiler
… killed and all.
But meh. At this point the narrative is taking a back seat to playing FF heroes and villains against each other.
I’m going to need to ask for proof.
Final Fantasy X-2 Ultimania guide.
I can’t say.
This game may just be disregarding the end bosses for the reason you say: they come out from of the blue and thus don’t really have any character (on top of all being huge, hulking mf’ers).
Well, technically there’s also the problem that Jecht would be Sin, but as Sin, he would be controlled by Yu Yevon, so technically it would Yu Yevon fighting since Yu Yevon couldn’t fight for itself. Sin’s pretty mindless even with Jecht in “control”.
I mean, I get what you’re saying, but you have to remember that Jecht’s pretty capable in his “human” form considering just he and Auron and Braska made their way across Spira to Zanarkand.
I can’t tell you why Golbez would be fighting; Kuja just seems to be along the same lines as Cloud of Darkness: he’s focused on fatalistic despair.
WHY MUST FF7 CORRUPT EVERYTHING!?
I have to step up my “take over Square” plan before they somehow tie every Final Fantasy to FF7 somehow…
wow are you serious?
that’s kind of retarded, frankly; although specs i’d blame X-2’s attempt to create the tie rather than FF7 itself
why did they have to oversaturate it
arghhgh
That is a good point. Storylinewise, I think Terra would probably be at the middle of the pack in terms of pure fighting skills among all the heroes so far with Squall, Cecil, and Cloud leading the pack in that order. I think it’s arguable as to whether or not she’d be one of the best pure fighters canonically in FF6.
you could also say FF7 has been tied to another final fantasy
it kinda makes sense if you think about it though, people complain that final fantasy is called final fantasy but every story is something else. this is the universe of final fantasy, and imo gives the series an extra depth
i dont know why people are so negative about it, how does it degrade the story at all?
i really need to find this out because it makes little sense to me, maybe it’s something like how people prefer OOT to majora’s mask. the whole linear experience of OOT is really easy on the mind and a nice memory and majora’s mask is disliked because it’s highly non linear with a story that interweaves into itself
life is complex like majora’s mask (much more obviously), why do people like simple things?
[edit: ignore me im always moaning abut something :bluu:]
Uh, Yoshinori Kitase (director of most of the newer FF games including VII, VIII and X) was the guy who confirmed it. So technically, neither game is “at fault” for linking the two together.
re: FFVII connected to FFX
Yeah, that’s old news. Actually, the first mention of it is in the FFX Ultimania Omega with interviews with Yoshinori Kitase and Kazushige Nojima, though at that point it was more of a “I’m thinking there’s a connection along these lines, Pyreflies = Lifestream, etc”. In the FFX-2 Ultimania interview with the Daisuke Watanabe and Nojima, they confirm it. The game itself hints towards it with Shinra thinking about taking Vegnagun’s properties (converting pyreflies into energy) and using it as a power source, but saying it would probably take a long time (a thousand years? I forget how exactly he phrased it) to accomplish. The creators state that’s eaxctly what happens.
re: Dissidia stories
Apparently, where each character comes from in their respective games differs. Cloud and Sephiroth, for example, I believe come after the events of FFVII, but, say, Terra and Kefka obviously come from before their final confrontation. I suspect most of the others come come before any final confrontations occurred. Golbez and Cecil might were probably plucked from fairly early in the game, after Cecil becomes a Paladin (not sure how they’re handling that since Cecil can switch to Dark Knight and back). And in the case of Jecht and Tidus, their story is completely whatif, since Tidus never confronts Jecht directly except at the very end of FFX, and by that time, they don’t exactly have beef, even if they have to fight.
The thing I don’t like about X tying in with VII is that it undoes all the demonizing for Jenova. We knew before that Shinra was destroying the planet, but the belief that humanity didn’t belong there was never solidified as truth. There was nothing there to suggest that they intruded from another world; for all we know, they could have come into the world as naturally as we did in ours. The telling of some ancient monster coming to terrorize and destroy everybody and reclaim the planet is what laid the groundwork for the story. It provided a dire conflict that forced everyone to act. X-2 fucks all of that up by establishing Shinra’s origins on another planet with some greedy asshole wanting to drain life and convert it to energy. Looking back on VII, this justifies Jenova’s presence and makes Sephiroth look like a tragic hero.
Not that it couldn’t happen. I don’t mind if Square plays connect-the-dots with every game in the series, but there’s as much merit with how they chose to do it as Sandman killing Ben Parker in SM3.
Well shit.
That’s probably why they did: Sephiroth needs even more people on his crotch.
I’m surprised he doesn’t look like Granfaloon from fucking Symphony of the Night yet.
the thing with that is, there technically 3 different beings on gaia (ff7)
there’s the al bhed, the ancients (who could be the spira lot, maybe summoners judging by their power) and there’s the earthlings
aerith/aeris being a said direct link to the ancients kinda shows that the current people on gaia and aeriths ancestors aren’t related.
so jenova came to earth/gaia and disliked the planet, why? nobody knows but it resulted in a war/battle.
there is also the al bhed arriving there who knows when and in FF7 it also said the ancients came to/found gaia at some point.
it would probably be a good idea to do a game about the ancients to kind of fill in the missing pieces
blinks for a moment then turns to Yoshinori Kitase and Tetsuya Nomura…ok it was all fun and games you guys…the zippers and belts were a tad weird but…WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU 2 DOING!?
Kitase and Nomura:…shrugs
I can make sense of it though :wonder:
it would just be nice for everything to be completed, they can be as vague as they wanna be, just make sure there’s more clues in the story.
on the bright side for those FF7 haters, if they deal with 7 now then the stories behind the others will have better graphics, non?
Whoever complains about that probably also complains that Ryu doesn’t do extra damage vs. Sagat with Fierce DPs when he hits Sagat in the chest. I fail to see what the problem was in maintaining each FF as its own continuity. Especially if Square only confirms connections in JP-only Ultimania books.
I don’t know if I’m going to be able to take over Square before they tie FF6 into 7. Fuck. I need more armies. I currently have… zero.
lots and lots of plot devices and holes…
nah i see 6 connecting with 9, 12 and tactics, might be wrong though since i haven’t played much of it but im certain the rest are connected
“there’s no such thing as good and evil” they took this quote and put it into FF13
i dunno, like I know nomura is in charge of FF versus 13 and said his story is less philosophical than FF games usually are so i dunno
what was good about chrono trigger? somebody answer that without just saying it’s ahead of it’s time, why is it ahead of it’s time?
Still no word on a NA release other than Dissidia being trademarked here.
Simplified, intuitive gameplay and elegant storytelling with interesting characters. Not ahead of its time. Just an exceptional game for its time.
Chrono Cross, on the other hand, is another matter altogether, but you can seek out the CTDS thread in GD if you’re interested in that…
Cloud vs. Sephiroth remix:
wow…the way how editing works looks epic. DO WANT.
Edit: I didn’t even realize that you could grind on the lifestream until they showed it from the different angles. This game has way too much style lol.
looks like you even even change angles a bit during the supers if I’m not mistaken.
Edit2: nope i’m mistaken would have been nice.
