Final Fantasy Dissidia thread. Sequel announced!

Is this game gonna even have Wi-Fi play? I doubt anybody will get any play with local play alone. It’s hard enough to find anyone that owns a PSP let alone actually likes Final Fantasy where I live.

In a word

no

in some more words

it will not have infrastructure play, but it will have party ad-hoc, so if you have a ps3 you can play other people with the game and a ps3 over long distances

No one likes Final Fantasy where you live?
I want to live where you live…

So in a stroke of awesomeness Dissidia will apparently let you save replays as AVI files for easy Youtube uploading. Why can’t more fighting games, or games in general, have shit like this?

That IS awesome. Smash Brothers sucks.

Yeah that was apparently from the Ultimania Alpha guide by way of Neogaf. It had better not be BS.

Some translations of the Ultimania scans:

Also, I have heard a plausible scenario: Since Shantotto is apparently a guest character on behalf of Cosmos, that means that there could be a guest character on behalf of Chaos. Since there’s “definitely” going to be a FFXII character (who, BTW, is apparently not revealed in the Ultimania Alpha), it could very well be Judge Gabranth.

Shirtless Sephiroth as an “alternate” costume…is Square seriously about this…, even I could’ve thought of something more interesting…come now, I understand that they went for the “Final” Sephiroth appearance look in VII however, this is a boring look.

I was waiting to see Cloud in his AC gear, it’s nice to have that, since it’s the most beautiful looking set he wears. I’m guessing that Squall will be having his Graduation wear??? That was pimp imo as well. After seeing the Cloud vs Seph match up, all I can say is LOL at Seph’s damage with Super Nova, the simple fact that it requires tapping is what really bugs me, because the damage potential for SN can/is/will be off the charts.

Still waiting on some vids of a prolong fight involving Squall, since he’s one of the characters that I would really like to see in battle, for it would give me a “theory” estimate of how good his stated rushdown/combo characteristics could potentially be.

After all this hype, they need to really get a PS2 port for this game, the potential for Dissidia won’t be as great being only accessible on the PSP.

I know this is just a crossover and isn’t canon, but is there anything so far that states if all the past game continuities have any relevance to the story? Should they have already taken place for Dissidia to work? Some games had more than one main hero/villain to choose from, and Chaos and Cosmos would need some criteria to form their sides instead of just pulling a Beyonder.

^ This will be speculative like with the SNK thread*, Kataklysmic, but going by the chosen pairings so far, it just seems like the first protagonist we’re introduced to in each game and the closest thing to a final boss with ties to said character (i.e. Kuja instead of Necron for Zidane, Jecht [even though he’s not really a villian] as a proxy for Sin instead of Yu Yevon for Zidane, etc.).

The closest thing we’ve seen to past game continuities is supposedly some dialogue between Garland and Kuja that heavily hints that FF1 Garland is the same as FF9 Garland. I believe this dialogue was actually in the first (extended) Dissidia trailer that popped up months ago.

However, since the Chaos-side unfortunately doesn’t really have a story-aspect (or whatever), that will probably be the extent of it. I can’t really think of any other characters that would crossover and I doubt Gigalmesh will show up, much less with talking role that elucidates anything.

*I should PM Lantis right now before I forget again.

Apparently they actually wanted it to be “Safer” Sephiroth but the PSP couldn’t handle it so shirtless Seph it was.

Squall will have his SeeD outfit.

Nice to see that they’re really gonna let you save replays as AVIs.

Re: canonization - it would have been cool if each of the characters were from their respective games AFTER the events of those games happened, with the villains being revived by Chaos and the heroes forced to put them down anew.

If that had been the case, Terra would’ve been in a bad situation…

Spoiler

as she lost most if not all of her magical power, which means no spells, no flight, and no Trance Mode. Sure she’s still handy with a sword, and more than likely stronger than a normal human (except maybe Sabin, dude lifts buildings up) due to her lineage, but she’s certainly not on the level of SOLDIER, SeeD or any of these other highly trained weapon specialzed mofos without her Esper side.

The Damned: The pairs make sense thematically and from a technical point of view, but the problem with Jecht and Golbez is that they were just unwilling pawns, more or less. They would never support Chaos, and any powers and abilities he would regard as special could backfire on him. Kuja’s even more dangerous in that regard. Not only that, but Jecht, as himself, doesn’t have much to offer Chaos compared to Sin or Yu Yevon.

Well, technically, Jecht IS Sin. Also, as evidenced from throughout the story and explained before the fight with the lovely Yunalesca from my signature, there similarly isn’t a single Sin to call upon as one gets destroyed and then Yu Yevon just makes another one from the Final Aeon (un)lucky enough to defeat it.

Speaking of which, Yu Yevon is actually A WORSE choice than Jecht when it comes to straight out power. Yu Yevon, by itself, is a parasite for Aeons, meaning it can’t do jack shit to protect itself as evidenced by the end “fight” after Jecht being pretty much impossible to lose (at least once Yu Yevon is by itself). (I think the only way you can lose it may in International version if controlled Yojimbo Zanmatos you, but I may just be thinking of the Dark Aeon fights.)

Jecht is actually an appropriate choice due to the antagonism he has with Tidus, although I agree that he isn’t a villian, per se. (Then again, I’m pretty sure no one on the villian side sees themself as a villian out of maybe Cloud of Darkness and all she talks about is despair.)

I can’t comment on FFIV, since I never played it, and FFIX, since I never finished it. (I similarly can’t comment on FFIII really because I never played that one either.)

Golbez was being controlled by some punkass mage called Zemus the whole time. It was a last-minute revelation that was thrown in so Golbez could redeem himself, at the convenience of him being Cecil’s brother, so he isn’t a villain by any stretch. Unless Zemus were to reappear in Dissidia and take control of Golbez again, I don’t see how he can be fighting for Chaos.

Yes, I’m aware that Jecht and Sin are the same. But my point was Jecht is not at his most powerful in his normal state. Taking Jecht as Sin would benefit Chaos more, even though it wouldn’t be possible to play as or against Sin with how the game is designed. He’s also far less likely to defect that way. Unless they’re under some form of control, characters that don’t have destroying the world in their minds are useless.

FF10 and 7 are confirmed connected, wonder if they’ll expand on that fact in this game

^

an al bheid Scientist in FFX-2 named Shinra created a way to extract energy from the planet spira, when you meet him he says “I have Found A Method Of Extracting Energy From The Earth, and have been funded to travel to a different planet to use this method”

also been confirmed by Nomura that FF10 happens around 3000 years before FF7

so basically president Shinra is an al bheid (scarlet, rufus and that guy who runs Soldier are probably al bheid too)

It seems that connection’s just there to establish that the games can in fact take place in the same universe, even if they’re not set in the same worlds or time periods. That means Dissidia basically is a Secret War, but with more time meddling involved.
