Final Fantasy Dissidia thread. Sequel announced!

When I said what I said I didn’t just mean it as ‘overall’ I also meant it as in comparison to DS so I apologize if I wasn’t being clear. I also tried to make sure that I was only projecting my own opinion when I said ‘I can only think of a few titles that would be a must buy for ME…’

I doubt we’ll see a PS2 port for this. I think Sony really wants to push PS3/PSP (more the former) and is trying to phase PS2 out. Dissidia has potential to be a system seller for PSP and would not do much for PS2, though it could arguably sell more units.

I’ve been holding out on getting a PSP for a while even though I really want to play FFVII:CC. When US Dissidia drops I’m going to have to seriously consider getting it, and I definitely will by the time US Agito (the only version of FFXIII I’m currently interested in) drops.

I’d appreciate you looking into it, my brother has a PSP and he’d want to do that kinda stuff.

re: PSP->PC

Isn’t the lag terrible though?

So according to the new scans Butz is a Mime character, with all the moves of the other characters, even using their weapons while using their moves.

shouldn’t have even wasted a spot on him

Nah I think it’s cool. It sounds lazy, but it fits in this instance.

It fits, but it still kind of sucks. I suppose it’s nice for people to have a main who is essentially random select, though.

I think I’ll prolly do it, just for fun o_o

Better scans of Ex-Death and BUTZ, Ultimecia’s alternate outfit, Carbunkle summon:

EDIT:

Forgot one: Squall’s alternate outfit and Cactaur summon, Ifrit summon:

Izzat Ultimecia’s alternate costume… or EX Form? :wow: Looks really cool.

Squall’s SeeD uniform = too pimp.

Hopefully they give Tidus Shuyin’s outfit, that looked awesome…while his “redesign” looks like ass.

So what are the hero/villain pairings so far, other than the obvious “same game” ones?

Squall and Sephiroth seems obvious, with the CG image of the two along with their furious fight in the trailers. Somebody said Cloud and Golbez: is that confirmed? Terra is seen in a CG image with Mateus, but is inferred to be tangled with Cloud of Darkness who is working with Kefka. And Warrior of Light is in a CG image with Kuja, though the first trailer shows him about to face off against Sephiroth…

… What poor fool got matched with Kefka?

Tidus vs. Kuja and Tidus vs. Ultimecia are the ones I’ve seen besides the ones described. Though I’d think Terra vs. Kuja might happen due to the whole Trance (aka Morph) thing.

As for Kefka, nobody fears that motherfucker, he’s got no Light of Judgment. Though his EX Mode might show off the goddess powers (with the angel and devil wings and all). I’d be much more afraid to run into “Mr. blow up your planet inside a 5 minute time frame” Kuja, since Trance is undoubtedly his EX.

it turns out any fight with kefka has the statues randomly placed on the battlefield

if he gets to them first

YOU’RE FUCKED

Bah, Kuja blew up a dead planet (that given FF9’s existential plotline may or may not have been a solid mass of rock anyway) all because he felt he was devoid of purpose. Kefka, on the other hand, did all the shit he did because he thought it was funny (and a healthy amount of hatred). I’d be way more afraid of that dude. And there was no “other world” to escape his wrath, either. One planet, one chance.

Kuja is one of those overhyped “I’m Leon and this is a scripted fight you’re going to lose but the moment I become playable I’m about your level, Stahn” characters, along with that Beatrix character. FF9 was full of bleh. It’s like those nerds who play pen and paper RPGs who make invincible characters and think that they’re good character designers. If Kuja encountered Heath Ledger’s Joker, Kuja would shit his bikini bottom.

And if you get to them first

YOU’RE STILL FUCKED

Man that would totally break Kefka.

No, Kuja’s not really like Beatrix. Why? Because when you beat Trance Kuja, HE STILL FUCKING KILLS THE ENTIRE PARTY. Not “he takes all their HP”, kills them. As in, story-wise. If it weren’t for the whole Necron thing, that would’ve been the end of things.

As for Joker, yeah Kuja would be off-put by his behavior because that’s the type of guy Kuja is (calculating and all), but then he’d just blow his face off.

As mediocre as FFIX was, I honestly believe that story-wise, no one short of MAYBE Ultimecia with Time Compression fucks with Kuja due to Trance.

The whole “kill the party so they can fight Necron” thing is full of holes: why is the party that got killed the only hope of stopping Necron? What about the dude what killed 'em? Who then does a complete 180 and regrets his actions? Kuja is powerful the same way Dragon Ball Z characters are powerful; as necessary to advance the plot in whatever direction the writers want, regardless of logic.

If Kuja was so godlike in a manner that he could destroy a planet (that was, again, a) dead/dying and b) possibly not even existent in the realm of reality), how is it possible that my monkey boy is even hurting him? It’s inconsistent. So is Ultimecia’s “time compression” thing, which serves purely as a means to an end: some storyteller at Square got a hard on for time loops all of a sudden and that’s the best they could do.

That’s part of the reason I’m looking forward to Dissidia; these characters with obscene and/or inconsistent “power levels” are reeled in such that they’re with others of like strength. Dissidia Kuja is far more believably formidable than FF9 Kuja.

And no, I won’t play favorites; if Kefka is owning the shit out of anyone one-on-one in an unbelievable, one-sided fight where he hasn’t, say, absorbed the powers of Chaos/Cosmos (which I suspect may be what is going to happen in Dissidia), or somehow used trickery/deception (which is what Kefka did until he started absorbing a metric ton of magic) I’ll call foul too.

I do agree with you on the “believable” power thing. It’s cool to see that in Nomura and crew’s idea of Final Fantasy, guys like Warrior of Light, Firion and Cecil would actually be able to fight guys like Seph, Genesis or Weiss, and do all the insane shit the newer heroes do like fly, move at super speed, slash through buildings, etc.

Kuja>Kefka,

I don’t want to argue “power lvls” because I feel that’s the most overrated bullshit garbage way to really compare antagonist. If I’d do that, then I would be ranking DBZ antagonist amongst the most “polished” villains of all time, and some of the most successful as well.

Kuja is a way more interesting antagonist then Kefka is, and no offense, but I an 8 year old could create the personality of a villain that fits Kefka persona. I’ve always felt he was the most overrated antagonist in recent FF games (counting from VI onward). His personality is just way too one dimensional for me to really find any really interesting in him as an antagonist.

Ultimecia power lvl wise, she’s easily Top 3 or 2, however she’s by far the most boring recent FF antagonist.
