This is kind of what I’m talking about. The longer they forced people to wait, the more people are going to rage when their character doesn’t get picked.
A bit of forum trolling is fine, but even I don’t see the purpose of teasing your customer base so long and so unnecessarily.
Actually, I think they’re changing the timescale with the next poll; most of the voting happens within the first two days, so they don’t need a week for each round. They’re just stuck with the current schedule for this poll because they said they’d do it this way, and if they changed it they’d get pointless bitching even though it wouldn’t change the results at all.
Either way, second poll will almost definitely be faster, and possibly use a slightly different method of eliminating characters so the vote is more representative. We’ll see, I guess.
I personally think Rav is his group are just feeling themselves now that they are getting paid.
What I would like to know is once all that money is gone, how do they plan to continue to finance their game? Is it possible to make an infinite amount of Kick Starter campaigns, or will they actually have to sell their product to the competitive fighting game community?
If it’s the latter, then they are going to be in a world of hurt. Didn’t Mike Z say that he only made $5 per game sale?
They said that they REALLY don’t want to do another fund-raiser and that the last one got them a lot of attention among publishers. Lab-zero also confirmed Autumn will finance them again once the lawsuit is over and if that doesn’t happen fast enough, then I’m sure they will make a new IP with a new publisher.
I’m not talking about actual fund raisers like Salty Cupcakes. I’m sure that’s going to go on indefinitely. But I’m wonder if it’s possible to make an infinite amount of kick starters if they wanted more money? Or will they actually have to rely on profits from the game sales at some point?
We seem to have a different definition of fundraiser because for me Kickstarter is a fundraiser. So as I said they don’t want to rely on kickstarters and such anymore and they would prefer to have a publisher again. Besides Lab-Zero doesn’t get any money from sales. The publishers does and they finance the development of future titles in return.
I think that in worst possible scenario they could make another Kickstarter but I doubt it would be anywhere near as succesful as the last one.
Aeon’s got a surprising amount of hate, but most of it has come from what appears to me to be a vocal minority; most of the perceived reasons to hate her were related to balance (which as Mike Z himself said isn’t going to be a problem), and according to that one survey of donators the crowd that would be concerned about balance is surprisingly small out of the total number of voters. It’s certainly been the loudest, but people like the idiot who made the diagram about how every button in Aeon’s control scheme is “FUCK YOU I WIN” (seriously, if you haven’t seen it Google Image Search “skullgirls aeon” and scroll until you find it, it’s so stupid it’s hilarious) are far from the majority. They just scream a lot.
Conversely, the dislike of Minette is a sort that would be more widespread, if less vehement. Her design isn’t bad, but it’s not one with great mass appeal either, the “fighting without fighting” style isn’t super-popular, most of the voters are not the sort who would care about her style being inspired by joke characters like Roll, and so on. I wouldn’t call it “hate” for the most part, but out of the four I think she definitely has the least support.
Basically, people who want cute things have Annie and, for those who think shy shut-ins are cute, Aeon to choose from as well as Minette. Those who want sexy will go for Eliza. Those who want a weird fighting style will likely go for Aeon’s weird time bullshit over Minette’s not-actually-fighting. People wanting anime-ish stuff? Again, Annie and Aeon over Minette. That’s not even getting into other factors, like how most people who wanted Isaac probably went to Aeon, people who want a really straightforward fighter would likely support Annie, and other things that aren’t related to Minette at all apart from not supporting her. The groups Minette appeals to over the other characters are rather small ones; those with the greatest chances of winning are, I’d say, Aeon and Annie (personal money is on Aeon), followed by Eliza, with Minette in fourth. I’m not discounting her entirely, but in my mind she’s the longshot.
Most anime fans (And by anime fans I mean anime fans who don’t intend to play competitively) I’ve seen have been voting Minette, and the “Level-up!” style gameplay has been very popular these days. I still think there’s a good chance that Minette will win. In fact, there are so many different people who like Skullgirls for so many different reasons that it’s practically impossible to guess accurately who will win.
