Fighting Games and Arcades alive and well in Mexico City

I never picked up online stuff there…when I wanna get online in Mexico I gotta go to a internet shop and pay to use the internet really…hence why when I’m in Mexico I rarely post up on SRK.

True…only America aint into SNK games like the rest of the world…but that is something I hope to change in due time…gotta start small…

i had a ton too

the covers looked soo crappy hahaha
good ol ps1 bootleg days :sweat::sad::lovin:

fucking tianguis

I’ll ask my chilango friend,I’ll inform you later

cyberfanatix is the only place I know

When I grew up in Guadalajara, I swear every street corner had an arcade. Fighting games were everyone, not just kOF, but Capcom as well…even Waku Waku 7 and random fighting games. Ahh…ditching elementary school all the time to play fighting games FTW…Then I moved to Palm Springs California, with ZERO fighting game competition, or even arcades…agh.

I went back to Guadalajara last year and all I could find in my old Moy hang outs were MVC2 and HELLA KOF games…no 3s :frowning:

My mom lives in Cancun now…went there last year, and couldn’t find any arcades…actually I did find one, but I was on a bus going home and didn’t have a chance to drop by. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

And i say again, it’s a small world after all …

Actually, Capcom’s games are more popular than SNK’s everywhere except for Latin America. I suspect that the only reason that SNK is so popular there is because of easy bootlegging (no offense to Dark Geese/ other SNK lovers. I actually like KOF XI, NGBC, and Samurai Showdown myself.) A few Mexican arcade related question: Why do tons of Mexicans play cross handed, do they play Samurai Showdown, and can they compete with the Japanese in SNK games?

Lawl, Or the 6 button layout.
BUT <3 Morelia. I plan on going there sometime in the future. And the reason not many people in mexico got internet is because its like 50$-100$ I believe for DIAL-UP. Still, The mexicans are godly. <3 guava juice in a bag that you get in the slaughter house section of a market
Evil Samurai:The reason is because some of the cabs in mexico are actually flipped. So some of them get used to it. As to WHY they are flipped…I dunno.

I covered this alot with people before…but actually yes the nations being 3rd world nation has a lot to do with the accessibility and the availability to bootleg makes all the difference…

However, many of them would play these newer games both SNK and Capcom alike if they could afford them. I pretty much live in Juarez and this is what everyone tells me.

Also about the competition…they can certainly stack up against the Japanese…after coming from EVO World playing and losing in Grand Finals to SBO Tenka Champion Tokido and playing SBO 4th place Mago in KOFXI and comparing all this to what I see in Mexico and how good they are in KOF…I KNOW Mexico can hold their own and I believe many of them would beat the Japanese down…

Like take for example players like Esteban etc in KOF2002…I think he singlehandedly would destroy many Japanese players…

Its a style difference comparing Mexico to Japan…

Mexicans love to rush down and overwhelm you with too many options so that you play into their mixups but also can turtle and poke when need to…(This fits my style).

Japanese really space and poke, and can win on time out all day as that is their style of play…

In other terms, Were ruthless
Oh and its cheaper to mod your ps2 in mexico  The chip+10 games=60$ or so in morelia.

what part of cancun did you go to??? there are arcades everywhere, trust me i live in this area:wink:

and yes the big mall in cancun has KOF XI 3rd strike capcom vs snk 2 virtua fighter 4, and many other arcade games not bootlegs:wink:

also i buy ps2 games for 100 pesos,at the tianguis:sweat:

seems like am the only that know how to play capcom games though, i get mad tons of people watching me play alpha 3 and capcom vs snk 2:rofl:

Awww man I missed that arcade when I was there.

When I backpacked around Mexico 98% of the cabs I saw were KOF hacks. I think it was in one mall in Puebla which had an arcade with a Marvel Vs Capcom machine.

Puerto Vallarta had a Xmen Vs Streetfighter as well.

That’s the only two times I could get a capcom hit while I was away :frowning:

It makes sense I guess that I saw no 3D fighters the whole time seeing as the hardware is alot harder to bootleg. It was kind of like stepping back in time

Man, Mexico should have campaigned to enter SBO for KOF '98. I am kinda curious to see how they would have done.

Its my goal to get Mexico a spot at EVO and SBO…they would certainly RAPE…

Gracias, I could do with the heads up. Here in London, going to the best arcade means going to the ONLY one that has Marvel, CVS2 and HSF2. In DF, I could go to 100 arcades and still be nowhere near finding the hotspot for top comp!:looney:

I thought the fanatix were europeans? Only one that comes to mind is angelkof or whatever his name was. I used to talk to him on msn, before my buddy list got wiped clean.

No why can’t Arcade be this popular in America. :frowning:

SATELITE, Plaza Satelite is where the malls at, no small cabinets here, big screens with the latest games, that’s what he told me

a lot of mexicans gather there as well, in the spanish section i’ve seen quite some disscusion and tournament announcements

There’s no way they would have beat the Chinese, but they might have been able to beat some japanese guys…but probably not Kyokugen Dou. Xiaohai and Dakou are probably the best players in the world. For anyone who doesn’t know these guys…

But in kof2k2, they do stand a chance against the Japanese.

I agree with Emil…

Chinese got KOF98 on Lock…

But in 2002…yes they wil certainly stand up to the Japanese…

Wow jcasetnl, Mexico seems just like the places I visited in China. There were KoFs everywhere (you can not stop an arcade w/out atleast 1 of the versions), and places w/ computers are HUGE over there as well.
