seriusly guys, if your not careful when your walking here in Mexico you will smack your face into an Arcade cabinet I kid I Kid…
We do have some OG Ko98 people is just that they are mostly unknown:sweat:
It is my goal to find these people…
Well, I guess I wasn’t actively looking…I’m going back there for 9 days in December…tell me where all the hawt spots are at
I got into KOF 94 and 95 way back in the ST days. I always thought they were the best alternatives to SF back then but they never caught on unfortunately. Everybody wanted to play Darkstalkers…
The players in mexico looked really good on the KOF stuff. There were a couple really good DDR players, too (like youtube video good).
Also the arcades had that old skool flavor that I haven’t seen in the states in over a decade: a big room, subdued lighting, and a somewhat seedy atmosphere.
Not like in the US: full of ticket games, screaming 4-year olds, barney decals on the walls, mini golf out back and some trailer chick at the redemption counter. :arazz:
If you guys stop by Cancun.
make sure to stop by:
Plaza Las Americas - Recorcholis Arcade
This place has KOF XI, and its preety big arcade place, but everytime i go i dont find any one playing there or i just go at the wrong hour.
They make you buy a stupid card, and the machines use the card readers instead of putting coins in them and its about 4 pesos to play pretty expensive if you ask me.
Plaza 2000 - Arcade (forgot the name)
This place i would recommend more cause everytime i go to it i see tons of people in there and has that retro Arcade feel to it, with dimmed lights, machines use coins 1 peso to play. This place has Capcom vs snk2 machines and many KOF games, has some 3D fighters too like Virtua Fighter 4:sweat:
and the rest of the Arcade machines are pretty much at every store, look around youll definately find tons of them, most of the times this machines are MAME machines with 1000s of games in them. with all the neogeo games and CPS2 and CPS1 games and tons more.
Bump this thread…Gotta love talk about Mexico!!!
Jcase man I’m gonna try and get those OG games some exposure here in the US ASAP also…they need it.they are rather good games!
Bumping a somewhat old thread just to argue against a common misconception. The cause of SNK’s (KOF’s to be accurate, more on that later) popularity in Latin America (I’m from Argentina myself) isn’t the abundance of bootlegged arcade machines. KOF was succesful because people liked it, plain and simple.
Bootleg machines came in when KOF was already very popular (around the end of 2001 - 2003 depending on the country). In any case, this phenomenon furthered KOF’s dominance even more, but it was far from being the cause of its initial popularity.
Also, it’s wrong to say that ‘SNK games’ are very popular in Latin America. KOF is what makes Latin American arcade gamers crazy, not Last Blade, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury and other SNK sagas. Which only further proves that KOF has indeed had a special impact in this area regardless of the piracy that came much later, when its popularity was already cemented.
On topic, I’d love to play against Mexicans to have a taste of their KOF virtuosity. Since travelling is impossible for me at this moment, I pray for GGPO to include SNK games in the future.
your sir explained very well, Bootlegs DID NOT make KOF or SNK popular in latin america, KOF did that by itself ever since KOF 94!!!
