Fighting Games and Arcades alive and well in Mexico City

You mean KOF 2002 hacks, right?

LAWL @ endless super bars. :arazz:

Yeah plenty of those hacks…been ran into those…plenty 2002 hacks and yes the little kids know how to do the endless supers…

So yeah when people say that even the little kid knows how to play KOF2002 thats true and false…

He knows more than the average American about KOF…

But thats where it ends…

hey how’s the arcade scene in Guadalajara?
or Jalisco in general

I havent been to either of those places but Oscar The Answer has he could tell you about that…I eventually am going to those places because I wanna keep levelling up in KOF…

Well, obviously there are a hell of a lot of CPS2 and Neo Geo black market carts, but KOFXI and Neowave, along with some other popular games aren’t, AFAIK copied.

I guess one of the reasons 3S was never huge south of the US was the cost of CPS3. I do wonder why the MVC1 comp was GREAT in Mexico, but MVC2, although popular, never had the same high-end competition.

Damn rigth, that is also the main reason why there are so much arcades, they have a lot of those multigame BKST systems with loads of ilegal ROM’s and hacked versions of kof in every street corner.

In figthing games? it’s pretty dead except for a few places, i can tell you without a doubt the best place to get some level of competition is the “Diversiones Moy” in the corner of Pedro Moreno and Colon in the downtown (Centro) of Guadalajara, the subway (Tren Ligero) has a station nearby is “Plaza Universidad”, they have games like MvC2 (x2) KI, CvS2, Soul Calibur 2, GGXX (or something), HSF2, and some random kof (don’t really care since i don’t play those) also a relativelly new Hokuno No Ken and other non fighting games like Pacman and stuff. Is a nice place to go for a change in the overcrowded arcades that subsist only for the lil’ kids areas (ludotecas or some) redemption machines and piu …

wow i remember pedro moreno, and that moy place
i used to be in that area alot
i lived in zapopan for a couple years but that was a while back

Oh wow, it’s a small world.

What’s the best arcade in DF these days? I’ll be going over to visit family sometime in 2008. Our family home is right by Cruz Azul futbol club’s stadium, next to the plaza de toros.

If there’s any decent comp round there, without having to trek to the Zona Rosa or Chapultapec I’ll probably go a lot sooner!

SNK games are really popular in Mexico for some reason.

Thats the wrong observation. What you should say is “SNK games aren’t really popular in the US for some reason”.

We said it before, they are cheap, they are easy to bootleg, they are easy to hack and put them on ROM’s in ILEGAL multigame systems they use MAMEDOS and a frontend and put that on an arcade cabinet and you can find any of those in any street corner.

But SNK is popular all round the world, not all of them bootleg, lol. Everyone I know who plays KOF would probably die of shame if they ever played on some bootleg mame imitation. Its MVS or AES or nothing. As I said, its only really America who don’t take much interest in SNK, they are ones being strange.

Well, futbol is not popular in the states while it owns the rest of the world. Somethings we will never know.

Also, Mexicans love their bootlegs. I remember back when I visted some familia, I went into a walmart and an N64 game cost around $90. I’d rather play at an arcade than pay $90 for a fucking cart or buy burned PSX games at tepito.

 I use to have a big ass collection of burned PS1 games, And I take care of them like gold

I do too, they are awesome because they come in cases complete with covers!

Por su puesto.

dsl/cable in mexican homes!?,

bootlegs aren’t that old, probably at around 2003, 2004 is when I started to see them. there were already plenty of arcades before that.

I still have mine

So anyone living in D.F right now help me on where the best comp is, and in what ganes other than KOF?

Just curious as to what, if any, are the major online communities for fighting games in MExico… any one able to shed some light?
