Are we currently in the reawakening of fighting games?
At first I thought all these fighting games coming out was about average… I thought with MvC3, SF4, and Blazblue we would be set for the next decade.
But what is going on now?
There is a SHITLOAD of new games in progress or already out…
KOFXIII
New Guilty Gear (TBA)
Aquapazza (Queen of Hearts)
Skullgirls
Ougen blahboahblah I dont know the name
Mortal Kombat 9
SFxT
Tekken Tag Tourny 2
TxSF
SF4: Koryu (lol)
BlazBlue 2?
It’s like a new revolution of fighting games. Personally I think the reason why all these new fighters are coming out… is because or Yoshinori Ono.
His success with SF4 (2008) --> 2010/11 SSF4/AE era has inspired a shitload of other companies to throw out new fighters as well.
Maybe it isn’t Yoshinori Ono… but one must think to himself, was it not SF4 and SSF4 that not only rehyped the fighting game scene, but brought in a shitload of new players as well?
i don’t know, I just find it interesting.
better than discussing shit like “oh fighting games sucks nowadays”
man, fighting games have been released consistently before sf4 you know, and without sf4 it would have be the same, jeez these kids, you give to much credit to sf4
before sf4 there was sbx, trf2, ah1 ah2, hnk, bf, ggxxs ggxxac, cfe, kof 2003, kofxi, kof 98um, kof02um, mbac, mbaa, sc4, t5dr, t6, vf5 to name the most well known, and many of the compnaies that are releasing their games now, would have released their new ones without the need of sf4
skullgirls has been in development way before sf4 was even considered, and perhapas the only one that can be said that was inspired by sf4 success was mk9, and still that is debatable, its not like they stoped releasing mk games and got inspired by sf4 sudenly
games like ougon are common too, doujin games are released on japan on regular basics (to say it in some way)
sf4 has only resurected the interest on random people that before it, didnt give a damn on follow the releases of said games
SF4 only made some companies push their products harder outside of Japan, and boosted stick sales.
The arcades in Japan were always getting a constant flow of new games each year.
The only games that I believe are directly related to SF4’s success at all are the new crossover games coming out. There is no renaissance happening (also, that word usually implies something good, har har har).
I’m no kid at fighting games either so please take your ego out of your ass.
Those games that you mentioned are from the older generation. Those games were made post 2003 and after, or some shit when CvS2, MvC2, and SF3 were the reign of fighters.
Those games you mentioned were probably hyped up during the post 2003 era.
Again, I’m not putting SF4 on any pedestal, but I wouldn’t deny that had it not been without SF4, nobody would really give a shit about Tekken sequels, newer Guilty Gear versions, or re-releases of KOF98-2002.
The fighting game community was fucking dead before SF4.
Why do you think the EVO 1st place prize money went from a few g’s to all of a sudden 20 grand? What was the game that Evo offered 20 grand for? SF4.
yeah so dead that we didnt have evos or sbos before sf4, oh wait
and no, sf3, cvs2 and mvc2 are only the reing on usa, wich basically only cares of capcom games
No. Maybe it’s your circle of ‘flavor of the month’ friends that wouldn’t care about anything before SF4 came along.
The Tekken community was always there, the GG community was always there etc. etc.
SF4 just got mainstream attention and brought in many new players who only play SF4, and a small part of them tried some other games as well.
ummm, yeah of course there was still evo and sbo, bro… I know that
but the scene was nowhere near what it is today.
the scene was so small and uncared for, that we didn’t have “live streams” and all of that advanced technology stuff
I remember back when I used to play CvS2, all the videos were phone quality or digital cameras
maybe I am wrong, and SF4 didnt do jackshit actually…
but its hard to believe that sf4 didnt deliver anything to the community when I roughly correlate the statistics of the community being revived, a mad rush of new players, and the prize money of evo jumping from $6000 to $20,000 in only one year during the Vanilla SF4 to SSF4 era.
it really annoys me that this post sf4 kids come to tell us that the scene was dead before sf4 and we should be thankful of sf4 saving the community, like if all the tournaments before sf4 never existed, implying that the efforts of the people that keep the scene alive were something to take as meaningless, yes the community wasnt as big as we liked, but the scene was still alive, all thanks to the people that really cares, not those that would leave as soon as the hype dies
dont be surprised if this evo and the next one drops on how many participants and the prize because the hype for the fighting games on these “new blood” is decaying
Lol, that’s funny bro.
I don’t even like SF4 that much, I would rather play CvS2 but the hype for it is dead and long gone.
you took my post way out of context and exaggerated the shit out of it to make me sound like some sf4 hardcore fanatic
what, you annoyed because I proved you wrong or something?
whatever, lets drop it cause I didn’t mean the thread to turn into this.
so, I’m wrong, you’re right, I’m just a sf4 kid who’s sucking Ono’s dick (that’s what you were thinking, right?), and the first fighter I ever played was sf4 and I think I’m the hot shit of wisdom for it
No it’s not. Maybe the fact the game came out, but not how it was handled aiming to capture on nostalgia. The whole approach was taken straight from SFIV.
So many updated versions in here it’s not even funny. If updates count then we can count TvC USA version, SSFIV, SSFIVAE as all inspired by SFIV
Also some of these aren’t available in all markets, such as ah2 not coming out in America.
Not to mention so incredible quality questionable games, such as SC4 which has all but faded away at this point.
