Fighting Game Community - Your Thoughts On Standard Button Layouts (360 Edition)

Could someone who has voted for the EX2 layout explain why? I really don’t get it and I’m starting to believe people vote for it just because it has six buttons and somehow think that’s what the poll is about.

X Y RB LB
A B RT RB

The above is my preferred layout, but in all honestly, I couldn’t care less. Modern games allow you to map the buttons.

Remember that it might not matter for a single person, but at tournaments ,and really, any gathering, those button configs are multiplied by hundreds, which is time that could have been spent playing matches.

6-button SF layout is still KING after all these years!

It’s been versatile for every single fighting game setup, besides the old Mortal Kombat games (and especially with the dumb Run button), as well as O.G. SNK arcade games, even though the SNK games can be played CvS1 layout style just fine.

Markman, your proposed SF layout makes logical sense! DO IT!!!

i think everyone agrees that it should be

XY L? (L?)
AB R? (R?)

at least.

i guess the ? is either gonna be trigger or bumper. I guess the answer to that is which one can be used on the most XBLA games that can use an arcade stick

i voted for a new layout. following arcade layout and then not having the face buttons on the leftmost part is ridiculous IMO.

…oh, i would like the RT and LT to be on the top, like the EX2. It’ll just get in the way of inputs, unless i just deactivate them or put button plugs in those holes… =/

KING, so you’re fine with this layout? Cuz you voted for the EX2 layout.

 B X Y
A LT RT

You made it seem that way in your post… But I’m confused at how you said they’ll get in the way? Weird.

My vote goes for
X Y LB
A B RB
since it’s the default for the SF games on XBLA as someone mentioned above and Capcom’s bound to keep it like that. I understand that the dudes at Madcatz want this stick to be used for other games also, but it IS a SF stick and should have Capcom’s intended layout. If someone wants to use it for another game he/she could configure it accordingly. It would be super convenient for there to be presets in the game where you can easily select a button layout depending on your stick like you go to the button config and select options like “Hori Fighting Stick EX2” or “HRAP EX” and you’re good to go. But I don’t believe that is within your control, MarkMan.

The only thing I’m curious about is… why the hell do ppl vote for the EX2 when it has an abomination of a button layout!?

Seriously…

People actually like the four colored face buttons mapped out like that? Cuz man, I hate that.

I think the ppl that voted for the EX2 didn’t read and voted for it because it has 6 buttons.

X Y LB XX
A B RB XX

should be the default. It most closely resembles the 360 controller layout. And if ppl want to use it for something other than capcom fighting games they can easily remap the keys.

Yea… Exactly what I was thinking lol.

Goooood call man

MarkMan you know what’s best, follow your spirit little dragon :uf:

X Y LB xx
A B RB xx

Works just fine.

New layout, like cowdisease’s custom stick (which I like btw, ) Who in their right brain using soul would choose the first button setup? Sure only has 6 buttons, but did you check out the button mapping?

X Y LB xx
A B RB xx

gets my vote for stick layout.

I have a SC4 stick, i never use it because I FUCKING hate having to go into the options to change the configs… That and I hate SC4…

I liked this until I read Deadfrog’s CapUnity post. So:

 X Y LB LT
A B RB RT

If it’s too problematic, open and remap, assuming that the buttons are all digital (to prevent lag issues) and connected with quick disconnects (hint hint).

So everyone that is voting for HRAP EX and Fighting Stick EX2… Care to explain why?

The major concern I have is the button layout (EX2) and button placement (EX). Those are reason alone to make me want a new layout.

I’m one of those who voted, didn’t read and thought “lol 6 buttons duh”. I’d change my vote if I could.

I’ve always been partial to:

X Y B
A LB RB

But I know how everyone here hates that layout with a passion.

X Y LB
A B RB

Would work just as well for me. The obvious solution is to use quick disconnects so we can reconfigure it at will.

I know I care way more about the physical layout of the buttons then how they’re mapped. Changing the controls takes what? 30 seconds? Don’t confront me none at all. Then again, I have friends with retarded sticks, changing their buttons all the time. Must be used to it.
