Not quite =]
I have no idea - I thought Gill’s goal was to find the promised land and basically save the world by bringing it into the proper balance (i.e. making everyone blue and red) That’s at least what I got from his ending.
Which always confused me, because my immediate thought was “And you needed to start a fighting tournament to further this goal because … ?”
That’s my big problem, it seems like every plan for a TO in a fighting game is:
- Start Fighting Tournament.
- ???
- Save the world/take over the world/Profit.
Even after all this time, I’m still having trouble seeing how 1 relates to 3.
The female characters are always pixies.
I want a girl that plays like Sentinel damnit (yay for Painwheel!)
Remember how in Dragonball Piccolo Daimoh took the list of the contestants from the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai and killed them one by one so no one would be able to oppose him? I think it’s the same idea. The big bad want’s to have all the strong would be heroes take each other out and then he finishes the last one.
According to the SF wiki, it states that his goal was to bring the most worthy fighters with him to his promised land as the savior of humanity. I guess he held the tournament to find just who exactly those strongest people were.
Still weird though.
I’m sure Enter the Dragon had the biggest influence over the “Host a tournament of the world’s strongest fighters and then I’m suddenly a malicious crime lord” plot device. At least over SFII, anyway.
If you play KOF, play Vice. Woman hits like a truck.
Something I’ve always wondered about is how many women are there in the upper health brackets/fit the Mighty Glacier trope in fighting games? Off the top of my head, I can think of:
• R. Mika
• 3S Makoto
• She-Hulk
• MvC3 Tron (though that’s explained by Gustaff)
• Kira from Arcana Heart
• Hilde…?
There aren’t many. I still think Women Health should be an article, especially for Capcom fighters.
I think in at least SSF4AE & 2012 Makoto has 1000 health which puts her at average and above. But it’s true, most chicks in fighting games are on the lower side of the health scale even though there are a handful (Cammy and C.Viper were the first that come to mind) that do a ton of damage.
I want to say there are other chicks in KOF with a good deal of health/damage but I can’t be sure since I don’t play it that often.
The reason the little women can throw the big male characters is because if they couldn’t it would make every game even more unbalanced. No one would pick those characters if they were really weak. It’s not like realism is a big part of FGs.
There’s also Masato (Bloody Roar 1) and Angela (Power Instinct), which actually do look like they could fight the big guys,
and then there’s Lilith who’s like…physically 13.
There’s also Saber (high-mid) and her Alter form (top to Berserker ) in Fate/Unlimited Codes. Granted they have the magic buff excuse.
Literally in Saber’s case since the bitch can’t throw a baseball without burning some mana fuel.
I know that everyone in KOF 13 has the same amount of health and takes the same amount of damage. I’m not sure if it’s the same in the other games or not.
Vanessa Lewis
Mary (Tobal)
Angela (Power Instinct)
Rila (Breaker’s revenge)
Tina Armstrong
I love Arc, but no, no no.
I’d rather read Melty Blood again, (and that was HORRRID) then try to understand BB’s story.
Wait, that’s weird, I thought I posted this comment…
Forgot about Angela. She’s pretty much the tropebreaker. I haven’t played Bloody Roar or F/UC though.
Lilith? She’s tied for the lowest health along with Morrigan and Lei Lei.
Mitsuko from Bloody Roar almost ties with Greg in power
Agreed on female characters not having much health. It’s an annoying consequence of the refusal to make big women in fighting games. Women must all be petite or graceful, never big. Unfortunately, while this means that a lot of the women look pretty, it also means that a lot of them look boring and same-y because nobody is willing to take the same creative leaps with female characters that we see with males.
On that note, spinning. Dear God, spinning. Why must ever single super move include ridiculous amounts of unnecessary torque? It’s like characters can’t just beat the crap out of each other, they have to breakdance while doing it too!
Blah blah, I don’t like Karin, blah blah.
3s makoto is a stereotypically “pretty” character (I personally still think shes cute though), niether is the chick in your avatar. it is rare but characters like that do exist. And yes characters do have to breakdance while fighting lol
Okay… But, you not liking a particular character is not going to stop others from doing so. You’re not the only one who plays fighting games.
i wish ryu didnt get on the cover of everything capcom FG related, hes just to Generic theres way more interesting characters in SF
I agree with this sentiment.
It should be noted however, that the main reason why Ryu gets so many covers is because… when most individuals think of fighting games, characters like Ryu would show up immediately. Ryu is easily recognizable.
Uh… Now that you mention the issue with Ryu as the main character - Another cliche I would like to highlight is status-quo.
