FGW Converter Thread - Roll your own converters

I can try remaping it but i need to tell you that start buton even doesn’t work. I’ll try tomorrow evening as i’m not at home.
And what about the 5v wire on the saturn pad? In the manual of fgw converter nothing mentions this 5v wire for saturn pad.

+5v is VCC.

Ok so +5v of saturn pad AND +5v of neo geo plug both on VCC place? No risk of electrical short circuit? I’m bad at electric stuff

Your Sega Saturn Pad gets its VCC or +5 volts from the Controller connector your wired to the Converter.
It get the VCC thats with all the other Sega Saturn signal

The +5 volts from your Neo Geo needs to be wired as the image below shows, as the converter needs power.

Yes, i got confused, that’s right I soldered the Saturn +5v Out to the VCC (blue).
But the pin 6 of saturn (+5v Inp, brown) is not soldered : that’s what I wanted to talk about.
And I soldered the +5v from Neo Geo to VCC.
Nothing moves.

I’m going now to check by remaping it, let see, though the start buton doesn’t respond.

Pin 6 on the saturn cable won’t connect to anything. I never connect pin 6 since it isn’t needed on the FGW.

Problem solved for my Hori fighting stick SS :

  1. I tried remaping : same problem, none of the butons nor the directions works

  2. I saw on the net that I had to solder jumpers on the supergun to get the +5v work for the pad : I did it but nothing happened, again…

  3. On the FGW Converter manual, it is said to solder the saturn pin #1 to VCC :
pin #1 is corresponding to the blue wire +5v Out. This is what I did as shown in the picture.
=> I tried to swap this blue wire with the brown one, pin #6 (+5c Inp) and actually it worked ! <=
=> and it’s still working for my saturn official pad !

So this is not pin #1 from Saturn pad but pin #6 that has to be soldered at the VCC

Weird.

It could be you got Pin 1 and Pin 6 mixed up.
its very common mix up

Hi, no mix up possible, it tested continuity yesterday again.
So, both +5v wires work for my officials Saturn pads and arcade stick.
Only the one of pin 6 works for the Hori figthing stick SS.

I just took pictures for connectivity check :

I tried ordering an FGW Converter from Godlike Controls 3 weeks ago and haven’t received it yet. On the USPS tracking site, it says it’s in “Pre-Shipment”, ie, USPS is waiting for the package. Is this normal? I tried emailing the paypal address I sent the money to (marcuspost) but I haven’t gotten a reply. I’ve ordered from Godlike Controls before and don’t recall it taking so long. I’m just concerned because I haven’t heard back.

How long ago did you ordered?

It can take tracking as long as 24 hours (after the fact) till it updates, and sometimes tracking does not go into effect till it arrives at the first Post Office or Mail Sorting center on its route to you.
This is just how USPS tracking works. For Overseas Shipping, Tracking will not update till it arrives to the destination country in this case it can take 3 days before it updates.

Also how long since you emailed Marcus Post ( @Toodles )?
Its common courtesy to give people a minimum of 3 business days before they respond.

I placed the order on January 3rd. I got the email from paypal/USPS on January 8th, but it’s been stuck in “Pre-Shipment” since then. The USPS website says: “The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on January 8, 2016 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if/when available.”

I emailed Marcus Post on Wednesday (the 20th), so it hasn’t been that long since the email.

Well, I ordered an AXISDapter from Godlike Controls on 1/15, got a “Your package is on its way” email from PayPal on 1/19, and it arrived 1/21 (yesterday).

I’m in California, so…

Thanks for the info. That’s helpful. It looks like my order fell through the cracks. Is there some other way to contact @Toodles besides his Marcus Post email?

Remember that this isn’t really Toodles’ day job. Last year I ordered some FGW Converters off the site, got them within days. A few weeks later I ordered a SLG, it took a week or so to get it because he was busy with something or another and couldn’t make it to the post office. Don’t worry, you’ll get your stuff.

Kind of a rookie question but i figure this is the place to ask. I like many love the sega saturn model 2 pad, and i would like to use one on a ps4 for sfv. I was wondering if it is possible to use a FGW Converter wired to a Brook PS3/PS4 Fight Board PCBA so that i can use the saturn pad? And if so is there anything important i would need to solder besides the leads. Im not the best at reading circuit boards but i have solder a few things in a past long as i knew what to solder and where.

Thanks for your time

@autobot
Yes, it will work. I’m in the middle of doing that myself. I haven’t wired the whole thing up but I tested the d-pad and it works. I have Sanwa OBSx buttons on my project box for the PS/options/share/touchpad/turbo buttons.

Also, referring back to my previous posts in this thread, I still haven’t heard back from @Toodles regarding my FGW converter order from a month ago…

@pennylane

thanks, yeah i have a few project boxes and buttons laying around so i plan on doing that too. I see that the FGW Converter comes with some loose resistors, would i need to use them in this build? Also when wiring this up is straight forward, like connect the saturn wires to the corrent spots on the FGW, and from there connect the correct buttons to the corresponding spots on the brooks board? like square to square and L1 to L1?

Yeah, you need to use the resistors and capacitor that comes with the board. The instructions are easy to follow. Wiring is straight-forward, but most people recommend wiring the FGW converter to an extension cable rather than a Saturn controller for flexibility’s sake.

Also, I believe one of the Sega Saturn cables doesn’t connect to the FGW converter. I think it’s brown but can’t remember.
