FGD Lounge: for general fighting game discussions that aren't thread worthy

Someone should tell that idiot that the players at the tournament are not playing to entertain random imbeciles on the internet that have a poor grasp of what fighting games and the strategies behind them are, they are on the tournament to win plain and simple, and what he deems as boring or cheap are valid strategies, the FB are on the game for a reason, to use them, the simple notion of not allowing the tools of a character because the stupid stream monsters would be bored about it is proof enough of how stupid the author is.

You know is ok to complain. You can complain that this character has so much fucking advatage for no reason. Or how i can’t do this or I can’t do that because of this bull shit. There is a way to spin this positive because i complain about characters all the time. Complaining for some people could just be another way to learn the game. “That’s bullshit i can’t fucking anti air her?!?! She can keep me in pressure all day unless i pushblock and HOPE TO GOD she doesn’t stagger to bait out an attack? She can anti air with missiles wtf? 7 frame startup and a hitbox that is bellow her hurtboxt so i can’t anti air and only trade with it?”

A person that complains is just honest about how they feel about the game. Its those that take those complaints and learn from them that separate them from the scrubs.

That’s not the point. Back in the day basketball games consisted of a team spending 20 minutes dribbling on their own end of the court to run out the clock. It was an effective strategy, but no one wants to watch that, so they added a shot clock.
Once you establish the rules you can’t blame the players for taking full advantage of them, but the organizer should have rules that ensure people will want to actually match the game. If Evo wants to keep getting a 100k+ viewers they have to care a little about the audience.

Now many of us here find a fireball war much more interesting than the article’s author. Is it enough for 100k+ viewers? Do we care? Does Evo care? But to completely counter the article’s argument on fireballs: There was NO Tekken on the Evo stream this year.

Random rant. I just popped in SF Collection for the PSX and ran SFA2Gold, and this nearly 2 decade old game actually has push to set button config - something retail disc based games from Capcom Japan do not have.

smh

There was, it’s just that it was all Day 1.

The guys over at Smashboards did that, and they wonder why they aren’t taking seriously.

I’d rather see a FB war then watching a player take a needless risk to try and entice the crowd. If you got a life lead then keep chucking that plasma. Unless you were in risk of losing/getting punished, why would you do anything else? It’s up to the losing player to force the other to change it up. To do anything else is just bad play, and bad play is not fun to watch in any competitive environment.

If tournament matches where people play to win aren’t entertaining enough for you (even a wacky ass game like Marvel 3) then I think you should invest your time in a different hobby. Maybe you’ll have more success convincing people to play dubstep at a professional Chess tournament instead, that’d get the crowd pumped huh?

Why is this not a thing anymore?

Stickying this thread since it’s a useful catch-all.

Watching Tekken Evo 2013 footage and tutorial vids with my Koreans kids after hours has been the highlight of my new job so far.

My students are still new to Tag 2. Given their schedule, only have time for play each other in t6br psp really. Sometimes they do get to play Saturdays and Sundays. They face the local dudes at arcades every now and then. Watching Tekken Evo and old tut vids is probably the best thing I’ve ever done during my stay here.

They had a few words about the local kids/Johnny Donuts who played at the nearby arcade too. Granted they need practice with moves and movement too, but it was an honest assessment if nothing else.

"The Filipino kids have potential, they are studious in making combos and juggles. Their movement isn’t the best but it can be improved.

“However they do like to whine a lot and make excuses for losing. Also they don’t random select the stage, they blatantly pick the infinite plane/no-wall ones.”

Maybe when the grow up (if they choose to continue schooling here), they can join the local meets. Or even compete in Manila.

The mvc2 tourney at this past evo was real good

Who’s got footage?

That bit about some community members leaving a dude out in the desert is messed up.

This is the victim

What the f is up with Preppy and Lord_Raptors avatars?
