Advance wars by far one of my favorites dual strike problably next (maybe). Jeanne D’Arc bought that in like high school still haven’t finished it tell this very day. Tactics orge was quickly becoming one of my favortites tell my PSP broke. All great games worth playing.
May have already been mentioned, but I enjoyed the Luminous Arc games on the DS. Good story, fun cast of characters, great design and solid gameplay. Doesn’t do anything all its own, so its not breakin’ any molds, but 1 and 2 were great games. Pity they never released 3 in NA/EU.
I bought the psp to tv adapter just for Tactics ogre and the Wild Arms tactics game.
Really really good.
Jean D’Arc also a great addition to this.
Also Arc the Lad games.
If you have not played them you are doing yourself a disservice.
I’ve heard similar stuff to about Jean D’ Arc as well.
I don’t know you well, but if you say it’s good then it must be!
Will buy next time if I see.
Wait hold up, please tell me you didn’t need a PS3 to do that, because if so, that would be tits.
How do you guys feel about the X-COM remake coming in October?
Multiplayer sounds cool, but it seems like they might be deviating a lot from the original Enemy Unknown.

Bought this, but forgot to ask how anyone feels about it so far. Started the game on hard and actually struggle since the AI will run from you to heal and position to do team attacks often.
It’s annoying if your ace character dies the game ends and you can’t revive anyone. Also you can knock people off the map if you don’t want to deal with them like Phantom Brave. If they do this to your ace they just die.

Fire emblem, like all of them.
Restarting the game cube one today.
That or tactics ogre 64 on wiiware

Oh fuck yeah.
Mark is fucking awesome.
Atlus is also fucking awesome.
Interesting thread…
FFT is the only trpg I’ve really gotten into. I’ve been thinking of trying some other ones though. I’ll be giving tactics ogre a try soon probably. FFT has such a deep system that I’m always unimpressed with any other trpg I play
Speaking of FFT, I’m doing a solo chemist run if anyone is interested in checking it out. I’ve been busy with school/work so I haven’t had any updates recently but I’m gonna do some more videos soon.
Falco…“Are you insane?”
Uhh…I love me some FFT and all, but dude.
There are plenty of other good tactical RPGs out there, many of which involve actual STRATEGY and TACTICS, rather than just grinding for a bunch of OP abilities.
The only “depth” in FFT is learning what stuff is broken and running it. Granted, there’s a lot of stuff IN the game, but only about 10% of it ends up being worth using.
So basically…it’s Marvel.
Fun and satisfying, but let’s not pretend “fun to grind= depth”.
Well, the thing that I thought made FFT deep was the CT system. Having a charge time on move made it so you had to plan out stuff and check the turn order. I haven’t played many other trpgs (only FFTA, FE6/7/8, and very little of tactics ogre the gba) but from what I remember all of the actions in those games were instant. There were also a lot of little things in FFT that made it stand out to me like bows being effected by height or weather boosting/nerfing magic.
Trust me, I know just how broken FFT is. The fact that you can go through the entire game with ramza only being restricted to one job and level restrictions with almost any job in the game shows that. If you want to play FFT while actually needing to use STRATEGY and TACTICS, I would suggest FFT 1.3. It’s a difficulty/ rebalance hack of FFT the either removes or nerfs all the broken stuff as well as buffing some of the weaker aspects. Blade grasp, math skills and the move-mp up/mp switch combo are all gone and sword skills not be 100% accurate all the time. The enemy also has improved AI as well as some having access to some of the broken stuff that the player doesn’t. You’re always at a disadvantage and only knowing the mechanics and out playing the enemy will work. I’d post the link but I don’t want to get infracted/banned.
What are some good trpgs to try out? I was thinking of giving tactics ogre another try or maybe vanguard bandits or vandal hearts.
how come nobody mentioned the godliness that was Gladius on ps2/gc/xbox? that game desperately needs a sequel…
Pretty sure I already did, actually. It was full of cool ideas but not all of them implemented well. Giving players access to guaranteed hits and criticals is really awful for balance. Also fuck having to buy shields all the time.
The problem with that is pretty much after chapter 1 anything involving a charge time is basically useless. Do you want to cast a Summon that takes 4 character turns to hit, or do you want your ninja to go up and just Two Sword the guy to death and be done with it?
There are actually other TRPGs with a similar CT system. Tactics Ogre invented it, of course (Square Enix hired the team that made it specifically model FFT around it). Suikoden Tactics is another. The problem of course, is that stuff that isn’t instant still is rarely worth it.
And yes, as a big FFT fan, I’m aware of the fan-made hacks like FFT 1.3 and FFT Hard-Type. The problem with those is that it’s by and for the people who already read and studied the FFT System Mechanics FAQ like the Bible and therefore already know absolutely everything about the game to begin with.
Strip away one broken mechanic like Blade Grasp and others just take their place. Instead of being able to double Knight Break an enemy, a player will just buff themselves up with Accumulate or Scream, etc. It just boils down to knowledge of the NEXT most obscure broken shit in the game.
Hahaha what? I got a ton of mileage out of lancer jumps and the big, nasty head-thumping spells. You just have to watch turn orders. Hell, time mages or anything that could keep enemies from moving made that shit super easy.
Once the Ninja and Calculator classes are available, Jump and spell casting are a complete waste of time.
But the game exists for fun, so play how you like.
