Great tournament tonight! We had a turn-out of 19 people.

A lot of top-notch players tonight. Max was pushed to the limit, but eventually won the tournament! Grats, Max! You’re the first person in the season to break 10 points :looney:!

Gootecks and CSB fought against each other first round. Boxer mirror match! I swear I did a random generated bracket with seeds >.< They came to fight again in the last stretch of the loser’s bracket. You can look above for the results of that.

Andre surprised us all with his flawless Zangief. His play was absolutely perfect.

Grats to the only Chun player, Dae! He got in 6th place even though he’s been playing nothing but BlazBlue for the past week :wgrin:

See you all 12/20 for the next tournament! Keep up the great job!

EDIT: minor point miscalculation.

Yeah GGs, to:
Gootecks with the Beastly Balrog
Max with his great Ken
Gilley showed us his combo video during tournament play and DAMN that was AWESOME!
CSB good shit on taking 3rd, your Balrog is getting better and better.
MOVAL still got the best Blanka I have ever seen in SoCal.
Sanchez still fun to watch your M.Bison! I mean MEX LUTHOR!
LOVE PIG HOW CAN YOU BE LATE!!! Good seeing you again tho…YOU MAD!
Good seeing everyone again and hope to you see you all again…UNTIL the next time!

Awesome matches everyone. I really wish they were recording this tourney. I would have loved to see the footage of my match vs. Mike Z and the one vs. Mex.

Clutch ultra FTW :woot:

GG everyone. Alot of good players there today…errr…yesterday lol what ever. Balrog and Chun continue to be on the list of my To Conqure list with ELF! Cluth Ultra Indeed Gilley that was Crazy! :looney:

Hug that Ultra!

GG’s all. Gilley, you too nice. That first match was pretty epic.

mos def will record the next ranbat

Spacecat avatar, Clutch Ultra Luck +50.

Congratulations Max!

It was great meeting everyone. Many, many close matches with sick shit happening like the double k.o. between bison and guile. That and the vega vs guile match was NUTS.

To me the best moment was at a final round when Mike z. grabbed Max with zangief ultra and I thought “wow, he doesn’t have enough energy to survive, that’s it, it’s over” and I see Max also reaching into his pocket to get quarters when the ultra leaves Max’s Ken barely alive and Max had to quickly pull his hand out of his pocket and grab the joystick and start playing again, gets zangief in SA crumple > dash > ken ultra and Max fuckin WINS that round. LOL

Good game everyone. Thank you ID Asz!

Max in the haus! Congrats man! And congrats to all placers and those who entered. Everyone gets props! haha

I envy all you guys already able to play this game. These ranbats sound like a blast.

ggs everybody. three suggestions:

  1. Nathan, I think you guys need to look at the setup because there are two issues. First, there is a timing issue. I’m not sure if it’s faster or slower, but I know that it’s definitely different than the setup at AI. I have no idea if it’s the TVs, the refresh rate, the controls or what it could be, but it is an issue. Second, the controls really need to be looked at. i probably woulda lost both my matches against csb anyway, but headbutt -> ultra is not something I mess up. I got headbutt -> taunt and headbutt -> dash on more than one occasion.

  2. You FFA regulars need to come out to the AI tournament next sunday. :lovin: There is the qualifier for the California Regionals tournament at Denjin on Dec. 13th and if you guys are at all interested in trying to get on the SF4 5v5 team, it would be best to get a heads up on what you’re up against because everybody at AI is going to be gunning for those spots. The only one that came out to the AI 3v3 was csb, the rest of you guys were no shows. Yes, I know AI is far, but MOVAL and fuson both drove from RIVERSIDE (1 hr 25 min) to get to family yesterday. So driving from anywhere around family to AI is going to be less than an hour for sure.

Also, there are TONS of players that would drive a LONG way to get to FFA to play 3s. Kai lives in Brea or Yorba Linda, Ken I lives in Mission Viejo I think. Either way, those guys were going to FFA every weekend to play 3s. That’s dedication. You guys can suck it up and drive 50 min. to AI every couple of weeks.

  1. Speaking of driving an hour and 25 min., I think some special consideration is needed for out of town players such as MOVAL and fuson. They had to play each other in losers, which as far as I can tell, only happened because they were in the same half of the bracket to start with. It sucks to have to drive so far only to have to not only play against a guy you play all the time, but a guy you rode in the car with. These guys came a long way to play the FFA regulars, but instead had to play each other in losers. Yes, had one of them made it further in winners, they wouldn’t have had to play, but if they both had won all their matches, they would have played each other in winners anyway.

Furthermore, i had to play MOVAL in losers so that means that all three of us AI regulars were in the same bracket. I know that the brackets were made randomly, but spreading out players from the same arcade is better for all players because everyone will have a better chance of playing someone from a different arcade. The last thing I want to happen is for the 5v5 team to have anybody on there that doesn’t have a TON of experience playing lots of different people from lots of different places because obviously I want SoCal to beat NorCal.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that if more than one person shows up from FFA at the AI tourney, I will personally make sure you guys are spread out evenly.

I had talked to Fuson and Moval before the tournament and had spread them out into different halves of the bracket. When they both lost they happened to fight against each other in loser’s. I had talked to them briefly about that when it happened, as well. I’m more than willing to separate people as long as we’re not too far in the tournament. There were two brothers who had come together that I made sure to place in separate sections as well.

Our machine is on default settings, aside from it being on widescreen and in HD (which I would assume would be standard tournament settings). You’re vague about what the problem is, but that’s also you’re point (you don’t know what it is). I’ll look into it and see if I can find out what’s different.

I’ll look into the controls, too. Japanese controls are so annoying to fix and test. Did it have to do with the buttons or the joystick or both? And was it on both players?

scrubbed out yesterday
there was something iffy with both us and japanese sticks yesterday
it felt like i had to yank on the stick to make my character jump
the sf4 setup is ideal for us sticks but i think its hurtful to the japanese setup
just because it feels a tad higher than usual
great tournament and good win max
u guys should come down next sunday
should be fun

i have to agree with everyone

the jap sticks were a terror to play on. wether its lag or button failure. something is weird.

but on a positive note, the american sticks are good

Results look good. What happened with the ST:HD tourney?

I’m not a FFA regular or anything but the reason I didn’t show to the 3v3 was because it got player capped…and it sounded like that place was burning down. I’ll be down there on Sunday.

:woot:

Ill also try and make arrangements to get my ass out there. Ill keep yall posted.

ggs to everyone!

First and foremost, I would like to start a petition to ban the use a Zangief in SFIV tournaments and casuals. I’ve been conditioned by many Zangiefs to turtle and poke my way to victory(usually death) I’ll try to better use your advise on that match up next time gootecks, as I saw you handle the zangief player pretty well after the tournament.

Congrats for Max for getting first place:woot:

Brackets are a tricky thing… Random or not nobody wants to face Alex Valle in their first match, but I totally understand wanting to split up people you constantly play (friends, relatives, same arcade, etc.) I was definitely dreading the boxer mirror match after seeing I had gootecks for my first match.

SFIV setup / JPN stick quality… After visiting Denjin & AI my personal favorite has always been FFA, I think they have the best TV and controller setup/options. Other setups are also very nice, AI’s screens are too close but I guess you would eventually get used to it. Denjin’s are standard def 4:3 screens, which also takes time to adjust to.

With that said, I must admit that something was a little off with the JPN controls. Both gootecks and I missed a lot of head butt=>Ultra, and in many cases he got a taunt for some reason. Possibly the FP is activating by itself if too much force is applied? :l::r::l::r::3k: can generate a lot of force. I have never seen so many taunts in a tournament before, i’m sure all of MikeZ’s were intentional though.

Anyway, I’ll be AI sunday trying to fight my way through gooteck’s & Ron’s Balrogs, both of which are very beastly & have the home court advantage.

Hmm…if CSB goes, then I’ll guess I’ll try to rep Chun at the A.I. tournament…maybe…
