Fez Creator says "Gamers are the Worst F***ing People"

The World Ends With You.

ALL of it.

What the hell is Fez? And why should I care about it? Unless it’s the Fez from That 70’s Show.

At the risk of sounding dumb, what are some examples of terrible Japanese games?

Worst purchase I made that year, god that game sucked.

Eeeh, I thought TWEWY was alright. I’m not much of a harsh judge.

I don’t think that Japanese games have gotten worse. They just havn’t gotten any better.

The traditional Japanese game processes certain idiosyncrasies that we, as gamers, accepted back in the '80’s and '90’s because their games were almost all we had to choose from (outside of the PC). Things like poorly-told stories, unidentifiable and/or one dimensional characters, overly complex/unforgivable gameplay, etc, were commonplace.

But when gaming companies in Europe and North America jumped into consoles, these commonplace factors became so much more noticable, and undesirable, to the Western audience. Console gamers not only got the opportunity experience what PC games have been enjoying for years in certain genres, but Western companies started to invade other genres that used to be exclusive to Japanese companies, and dominated.

Using Final Fantasy as an example, for all the complaints people have made about FFXIII, if that game came out in 1998 (with PS1 graphics and sound), I guarantee you that it would have been a best seller, top-5 game of the year and an instant classic, while PC gamers would laugh and say, “If you want to play a real RPG, play Bauldur’s Gate.”

(BTW, as far as my own personal entertainment goes, I like Japanese games (in fact I’m playing FFXIII-2 right now), but I understand why they turn off a lot of Western gamers)

I clicked this thread because I was “wait, the guy who made that hat?”

Then I read some more, still don’t know what games this guy made.

Still seeing Japanese games are ass when, to me, this whole gen has largely been ass in comparison to the PS2 era and it isn’t specific to one region.

Everything is intertwined with online, I can no longer grab my game and memory card and go somewhere, I have to bring the entire console now, so much shit that was on the disc last gen is now DLC, pre-order bonuses are now very gameplay related (if I buy it used, later or even want to wait for an opinion, I’m now fucked out of something), I’m puzzled why games’ cinematics and cutscene (shit I’m not playing and skipping through the second time) are so elaborate and expensive and the gameplay is fucking ass and many of these games aren’t worth a second play through.

Ignoring being able to play online, this gen of gaming is lackluster for me, someone who likes gameplay. Story and cutscenes and presentation have been better I guess? I don’t know.

With this gen of gaming and DLC, how the fuck will I play these games 5-10 years from now?

Don’t care about what 1 random guy says.

It’s not what one random guy says about a bunch of people who play video games, it’s about him shooting himself in the foot for saying what he said.

To be honest, I haven’t bought many games in the past few years. I think I’ve spent about… $40-50 total on new games in the part four or five years. Actually, I’ve always been that way. A lot of the games I’ve played are at friends’ houses, at which point I decide if I really want to get it or not. I’m not sure if it’s scummy of me or not, but it’s saved me from many purchases that I wouldn’t see myself playing again.

I going to say this; the same criticism I see made in these 2 threads about Japanese games can also be attributed to western games. The reason why western games seemingly get a pass is that they have the ability to wow the general consumer and the press with presentation and production values where as Japanese haven’t been able to keep up in that area for the most part.

There’s also the fact that culture makes us like Western shit a lot more than Eastern shit.

Put a shitty western war FPS and a shitty eastern RPG in the same room and the American guy is more likely to have fun with the shooter.

As a rookie game developer, at some point I’ll have to put up with trash. I think the best thing to do is to not acknowledge them. And definitely don’t respond by hurling trash back at them. Phil only worsens the situation by responding to those losers by becoming one of them.

I hate going to Gamestop because the place is always filled with smelly creepers. I always think it’s weird how, despite knowing so many normal gamers, these people still represent the archetypical gamer in my mind.

Fatties!

You know those hipsters that spend their time in a coffee shop and claim they’re writters? He’s the video game equivalent.

“Oh, Hello, I’m indie game developer #321, nobody really pays attention to me but then I said this really controversial thing and my name was everywhere!..let me do it again, I need to sell my game”.

y’all suck.
