Very nice playing Starnab! Much more indicative of what Fei is capable of.
I’m surprised at the boxer domination. What do you usually do though when playing against turtle rog (you know, jab > jab > headbutt > ultra)?
Nice one, Starnab!
I still feel uncomfortable with the Honda match up tbh. But when you got behind him during his HHS, I thought you’ll go for ultra.
You did well though. Maybe I’ll be as good as you someday.
The balrog is worse for not punishing you for that super. AT ALL
and I dunno what happened against Honda, it seemed like you knew how to fight him, but then forgot as you went on.
still good stuff though.
StarNab very nice and is it just me or have you improved a lot since the last videos? It seems that you often aren’t sure about what to do with your meter and end up not really spending it. You should learn to hitconfirm into super and it would fit your playstyle well, basically getting a 400 damage bonus off a poke once in a while.
Woo hoo, nice job StarNab!!! Great job representing Fei! I see that Honda is still giving you trouble…hmmm, I learned a few things from fighting against MrSNK:
If he does neutral jump HP, you can walk up under him and hit him with cr. MK. Ryu can do this with his and so I tried with Fei and it works!
Try doing empty jump ins sometimes. Most of the time, Honda players will usually do EX headbutt late into your jump to take advantage of the invincible frames at the beginning of the move…if so, you can actually block EX headbutt in time as long as you haven’t attacked and then quickly punish with EX rekkas on block. Just becareful b/c if you do it too much, they’ll start oichi throwing you.
But yeah, looks like LordDVD is your biggest rival at these tournaments. He’s got a pretty nasty Honda. Are you all buddies?
Thanks everyone
Well I don’t meet often super turtle rogs.
In any cases, the key is to be more patient than your opponent. Rog has way too much stupid tricks to counter Fei’s pressure (Ex dash, Headbutt,… LP… :lame:). Be aware of dashes. Walk forward slowly up to HPrekka range. And engage. Take the lead… And retreat. You’re never too far away from that jab Ultra stuff so don’t take useless risks.
Lol, when I watched the replay I expected Ultra like you. I was like “yeah I’m gonna ultra his butt at this moment” and well no, just no.
When I’m under pressure, I often don’t choose the best option. I guess it was one of those moments.
Yes, there was a bit of that obviously.
But what really happened IMHO is that he changed his gameplan after the 1st match. He punished every jump-ins with Ex headbutt and overall played more safely. I lacked patience and I went for strategies that didn’t work anymore again and again.
Thanks Bubblan. I’ve improved a bit I guess against Lord DVD ahem against Honda I meant lol.
My EX meter usage heavily depends of the match-up.
Against Boxer, I don’t really need it unless for Ex tenshin.
Sometimes for EXcw to close the gap.
So I often start round 2 with full meter. Then I usually try some 2MK -> Super against (Ex)Dashes.
Against Gief, I use EXcw to escape when I’m knocked down if he tries to cross me up. EXflame kick to ensure AA.
But I do need Ex meter against Honda to punish (LP/EX)headbutt, st.HK, and jump-ins which sometimes beats regulars flame kick for no reason.
@Kilivan : Next time, we’ll kick their asses with the Onibaku team du ghetto ^^
Good stuff guys. Some interesting watches. Very nice quality on your stuff Starnab. Starnab, that wasn’t a ‘true’ turtle boxer lol He had way too many exploits and didn’t adapt too well to your style. Good way to capitalize on his biggest weakness: Focus. Also, when you did whiffed Super, it looked as if you were trying to do jab > rekka to punish a dash punch.
Hey, as of late I’ve been working on leveling up my Seth and couldn’t help but notice how one of the Seth players analyzes videos in their character forums. Kikuichimonji will look at a vid and, using a bullet format, basically break down the good and bad points of the match while providing constructive criticism as best he can. I believe I will try and do the same for the vids here as it will give me more insight towards match-ups and allow me to contribute more info to the MTUP threads.
I’m going to start with Starnab’s vs LordDVD and post it in the respective character thread (vs Honda).
Basically super turtle rogs get some life chip off you using a dash punch sometime near the beginning then proceed to the corner blocking and throwing jabs out (can you believe I’ve tried reversing those jabs with flame kick and it still gets beat out?) when you approach from the ground or headbutt from the air, sometimes mixing it up by dash punching as you move forward for more chip damage (or in extreme lag where you can’t block on reaction you get the hit).
I’ve actually had that at the beginning of a match where he would just take one small chip then stay in the corner the whole match.
Count down from 99 to 0 and all he would do is headbutt if I approach via jumping or jab me out of every ground move.
As an aside, I think revenge/ultra meter should be charged at start of round for loser if someone wins via time out.
Watching your Honda vid, it seems you had trouble getting around his jump push (MP) attack. Personally if I was expecting that I’d utilize Fei’s jumping HP. That really is my critique with all your matches. For some reason Fei’s J. HP kicks (punches?) a lot of ass (foot, hands?) when meeting opponents in the air (but useless when meeting opponents on the ground).
Try it out more rather than rely on J. HK all the time.
Man I hate fighting tubby. Damn butt splash.
so how did that go, honda has been giving me problems and i had read you were trying to play MrSNK for a while.im curious how it all turned out.
Well we both won about the same…maybe one or two less but it was relatively even. Unfortunately, our matches were pretty laggy so we just decided to call it quits. I mean at one point it was so bad I couldn’t even punish him after blocking his ultra…that’s when I was like, “Okay, it’s too laggy LOL!” Ugh my older brother was streaming some videos thats why…I kinda hinted that I was in the middle of a heated match but he just shrugged it off and kept streaming. Ugh…I would’ve pressed him harder but he just got barely got home and got on the computer so I didn’t want to be unfair.
Real nice StarNab.
Whoa wait. Just to let you know, that’s not me playing in those matches. Those are nicovids matches that I ripped from here and upped to youtube so more ppl could see. I don’t play Fei, just trying to help out.
Ok in that case I’m removing those vids.
Thanks for letting me know.
whatever. your fei is top tier mr. moddesty. no, really, we appreciate the effort anyway
Higher resolution videos of Justin Wong’s Battlefield Arcadia #6 matches from the source itself (frameadvantagedotcom). I thought these ones would serve the Fei community much better even though I know the low resolution live streaming version has already been posted on the first page. There is more in the Frameadvatagedotcom Youtube page from the same tournament but I felt that these were most helpful since the Blanka and some of the Zangief players clearly didn’t know the matchup.

Eugene being noob and posting these in the wrong thread
Chriz didn’t look too hungry Eugene. Also, I KNEW you would eventually finish your 3rd Rekka since he would immediately stick out low short or start regular scissors during your pause.
There were some opportunities for you to anti-air that you chose not to even though Bison spends all day in the air. lol @ one point where you threw out far s.RH but Dic went right over it. =P
Think you had an opportunity to Ultra after an aa Rekka you landed which would have won you that round most likely. Would have been pretty sick.
Can’t wait to start messing with anti-teleport options after forcing them to block RH CW; although I am sure they are basically
-another RH CW where they will get clipped by the 3rd
-f+MK whiff > Rekka
-Rekka on reaction
etc, etc
Only watched the last match. You did pretty well against that Bison.
Good hit confirming on almost every LP and counter cr.MP.
The thing I was quite sad about is that you never AA him. But it’s hard to AA Bison’s awkward jumpins.
My most recent championship upload. Pretty laggy match actually, so I missed a lot of opportunities to punish hard. I do think i did an alright job of spacing out Rufus however, and staying away from that ex Messiah kick. thanks BGF for gettin it recorded.
