Fei Long Video Thread

TC Bubblan, hard at work with Fei in this SSF4 vid:

Whiffed a couple Ultra IIs there, probably hoping for a mistake by Juri. Great to see Fei’s Flame Kicks are still pumping out the same damage :smokin:

Can’t find that one video of where fei was playing rose in SSFIV. He did wake up ultra as she was jumping backwards and got hits 3 and 5. Tested it out in vanilla with the same situation/spacing and it also works. So most likely his ultra 1 didn’t change. We’ll find out for sure in 2 weeks.

Also the final matches were added from that tournament last week

If the video was the same from before the times for my matches were here.
17:30 RPGv2 vs Calvin (blanka/ryu) winners finals
50:53 RPGv2 vs Calvin (blanka) grand finals

Something I saw in one of the matches also raised a question in my mind: After blocking low against Blanka’s Ultra shockwave, is it possible to backdash? That would be a free Ultra for Fei… Gotta test that one in the lab.

You’ve got a solid Fei overall. Have I faced you on Live yet? It may have been awhile. :nunchuck:

Critique:

 1. You might want to work on confirming single Rekkas a little more or improve spacing for the use of two–the two Rekka deal was punished every time on block and you’re missing out on damage on the single Rekka confirms. Generally speaking though, spacing seems to be the main issue that I’m seeing with your Fei. Lots of Rekkas/normals/crossups whiffed by small amounts led you to be tagged by your opponent’s moves when you should’ve been safe.

 2. cr.LP> Rekka needs to be spot on. It’s free chip and a really great tool for pushing the opponent into the corner. Also, it’ll punish so many things without concern for link timing, link spacing, or whether the opponent is standing or crouching.

 3. Once you pin Blanka in the corner, a cross-up into the corner becomes (generally) an unwise decision. Better to stay within Rekka range so that Blanka loses the ability to short-ball mix-up or short-hop crossup. Here, he can do a jump in to advance, though it seems you’re great at anti-airing those attempts anyway. If the Blanka player is foolish enough to do a special on you at this range, you can punish with anything, leaving him with few options to escape the corner.

 4. Rainbow ball mix-ups can be Focus’d. If you guess wrong, dash out of it to safety or dash towards Blanka to try to get him with something else.

 5. Flame Kick> FADC is best followed by HK CW> Ultra juggle instead of straight Ultra. You get the same damage with about 5 seconds more to buffer the Ultra command and launch. Also, the damage without the Ultra is still FADC worthy so you can save the Ultra for something else.

 6. Those crazy aggressive jump-ins were so risky; I’m surprised the Blanka didn’t do s.HK or Up Ball anti-air on you at all. Some worked, most were blocked or punished–I’d recommend more sparing use though props for having the guts to do it.

 7. Wake-up CW needs to be toned down by a bit.

I like the Fei a lot, but the fights seemed a little panicked by the way that normals were going back and forth like crazy. Your aggression is pretty scary, no doubt–that stuff will paralyze most players easily. But in this match-up, having the patience to pin Blanka and limit his options is a huge factor and can keep the match in Fei’s favor easily.

Thanks for the critique, I don’t play online or this game anymore. I just show to tournies when I have free time, I should play more to shake the rust off but I just can’t find the time.

Usually with my gameplay I just keep doing whatever until it gets stuffed hard, which is why I jump in so much, normally I never leave the ground, but if it works, why not. I watched the video myself again and saw the stuff you pointed out. The wake up cw, just can’t help myself lol,

We’ll see how I do at the main event at the end of may. There will be a live stream of that here http://www.eschamp.com

Nice work RPGv2 Blanka is a frustrating fight with all his gimmicks the last few rounds you must have broke his spirits with the Tenshin combo’s lol nice setups on them.

I hope all the motherfuckers who say Fei Long dont win tournaments sees this.

Hey, I made 3 videos of me against the computer earlier today, would anyone like to critique or give me advice?

They’re not the best quality, recording it off my digital camera, but I hope it’s good enough

Thanks

Some casual online matches on EMP SAbin channel (impressive quality)

good stuff starnab ^^b

Great spacing and really patient Fei

Why were these guys using Bison instead of their mains? Trying to do a match-up evaluation? Seems the fight hasn’t changed too much from Vanilla.

have to add, luv Alioune’s Guy.

Good consistency by ATi with linking cr.lp xx Rekkas after a CW on hit.
But your more varied fighting style (and probably experience) won.

Get a PS3. Now!

Just some replays that I recorded, any and all input is welcome! thanks! :bgrin:

-things that I’m working on, hit confirm rekka’s, footsies game, and CW spam (lol)

(this is before I knew that mp rekka’s could punish ball on reversal w/o dash)

(first match is vs a chun, got lucky @ the end as he/she was not able to hit U2 after EX-legs, would really like a break down of what I’m doing wrong here, other matches are just casual fun matches, as I was spamming CW on Geif lol)

Some random comments on the Bison match:
[]Know your punishment situations (Full Rekka/Flame Kick combo on whiffed U2 and blocked slide attack).
[
]More patience! Lol but you already know this.

The first U2 attempt wasn’t a good idea (there was no visual cue or anything to launch it). The second one was spot on–you got to capitalize on full Ultra damage as opposed to a pathetic U1 juggle.
Just paid attention to the Chun match really. Here are my thoughts:

You jumped into the fray all too quickly in round 1. When Chun is sitting back and throwing fireballs, approaching her is tough because she has the ground/sky approach covered with anti-airs and a superb aerial game. Absorb the fireballs to piss her off or walk forward to EX CW range instead of trying to jump them. With U2, it’s a good idea to get more Revenge meter as soon as possible so that you can capitalize on that metagame. Abuse the absorption for that purpose if nothing else.

Remember that the single backdash after absorbing a fireball is meant to keep you inside that punishment range. If Chun sticks something out that doesn’t quite reach, react with LP Rekka to force her to block. EX should beat most moves so you can also do backdash> EX Rekka immediately.

Gotta catch that punishment on EX SBK. That’s free Rekkas right there and an opportunity to put Chun in the corner.

Remember that Chun is a short character. The extended BnB (cr.LK x2) should give you time to see whether she’s standing or not; you can adjust accordingly from there. Sometimes a frame trap would be just as effective (cr.LK x2> cr.MP is a 1-frame trap, or use cr.MK for a 2-frame trap); these will catch option select and hit-confirm attempts pretty well. You used this in the second round which was good.

Don’t forget to threaten Chun with Focus around that cr.HK range. If she foolishly sticks something out at that range, that’s free damage and a possible crumple. Even if she does nothing, you’re not in immediate danger and can reset spacing easily.

Watch range for EX CW. The further away, the less of a chance you have to hit with it. Also, don’t burn it on wake-up or for approach unless you definitely see a fireball coming. Just use HK CW instead.
Overall, great application of U2 in the Chun matches.

lol yea I was way frustrated, I had tried to get it to come out a few times prior to no avail. so it was more of a frustration move, more trying to get it to come out then trying to hit him with it.

Thanks for the chun break down!!!

Sagat players switches to Fei and plays decent with him at 1:23 at tourney.

Not a bad go, but really inefficient with that EX CW instead of HK CW (more range, but he really doesn’t need to use it). Also, bad timing for the U2 against Ryu–you shouldn’t use U2 when you’re up 80% to the opponent’s 20%; that’s just dumb. He should have just played it safe and won a poke/chip war instead.

It seemed that Abel didn’t really know the Fei match-up at all which is why he lost. The Fei also could’ve used more CW (esp HK) to lock down Abel/avoid throws. Good poking though; he managed to keep Abel out with that much alone. I think this publicity for Fei is what he needs for people to take him more seriously in tourneys.

That cr.LK x3> st.LP XX Rekkas link is really tough BTW. It’s pretty awesome that he catches it every time. It seems to remedy the whiffing of st.LP on those medium-sized characters like Ryu.

i think this might have been discussed before, but as of right now, who do you consider to be the world’s best fei long (and thus who I should be watching in videos). In your opinion.
