No doubt. I’m tryna do the same, and really wanna learn Rufus and Gief.
Good luck tho.

Thanks. Just trying to keep the game fresh for me. I actually had no Rekka problems when I played him in Super on a PS3 pad for a short while, but I’m not switching back to that.
You said you hated doing rekkas. I was curious why though?

I dunno, they just feel very awkward for me. Probably cause most my matches involve holding back, or down back. Even when I’m knocked down I’m still holding.
So after this post, I was practicing his BnBs. I can do them all on the right side of the screen, can’t Rekka on the left side lol. I just started plinking it with lp + mp when it comes to doing combos. Just need to get used to it I guess.
Common problem. When you do the rekka on your bad side make a point of finishing the motion at up forward so you know you’ve hit all the points for the rekka. I’ve even watched replay’s of japanese players doing full circles for rekka’s. Try that and see how you go.
A lot of ppl, myself included, have that issue. When you lab, turn on input display and watch your inputs. You’ll see where your mistakes are, and how to improve on your execution.

Sometimes a grip change can help. I myself went through many grips until i found one good for both sides. Go to training mode and just do qcf on both sides and watch your inputs. On your bad side you’ll see inputs drop adjust and observe and remember the feeling, so in a match you can go back to it (I know it sounds weird but its worked for me)
I just started playing fei, I use a ps2 pad and I find it easy to do rekkas with negative edge…
Thanks guys, I’m slightly getting better. I find it’s the grip motion that makes it awkward for me. I got used to using the wine glass method cause it felt clean to use when playing on charge characters.
As long as its comfortable and the inputs come out correctly in a match, you’re on your way. Just keep at it, and you’ll see the improvements.

I split my grip depending the direction, it might sound strange but it works for me and it’s automatic. I use wine glass to face the left (P2 side) because pulling against the gate is more natural than pushing. Then for the P1 side my grip is still slightly wine glass but my palm is now verticle and not horizontal like on the P2 side and I push the rekka’s with the fat pads on the base of my fingers and my thumb also sits on top of the stick for extra grip. Whats funny is that it’s the same but the exact opposite for DP’s, I will use the P2 method on P1 side and vice versa as the DP is in the opposite direction for Fei. Sounds strange but it works!
I think the best way to learn is just with your fingers controlling the ball top like a lot of the Japanese players do as your wrist position never changes and your in equal control from both sides but most of us have been playing FG’s for donkey’s years and once your grip is set it’s hard to change.
Still trying to get there. Didn’t play too much yesterday, my friends were all already in private sessions and XBL kept acting up so I just trained on TTT2.
I find it weird to control the ball top with my fingers only, but I can get used it I guess if I keep trying. I too find it really awkward to push when using the wine glass method and playing a motion character, charge not so much unless I’m trying to dash ultra.
The way I trained myself to get better at Rekkakens was to go into the lab, set block to random, then do 10 of each punch Rekkakens. This not only helped me hit confirm, it also helped with spacing and the fluid motion of 3 QCFs.
Since as a Fei player your goal is to get the opponent in the corner, practice sitting still at a good LP Rekkaken distance, throw one out and if blocked take a half step back then LP Rekkaken again. This will definitely frustrate your opponent cuz they just blocked two safe specials and ate the chip for it.
If anyone wants a video I can upload if anyone is having trouble visualizing what I wrote
Happy Rekka-ing!

Just keep tinkering and like USF said, practice Rekkas with jab, strong, and fierce. I think that also helps you notice the distance traveled to your opponent. Just remember, it’s a process. Play those mirror matches too against Fei to see where you stand, as well as things you can use in your game.
My problem isn’t getting people into the corner… Its keeping them there. I’ve seen Fuudo st.jab people at just about the right time if they jump backwards expecting the rekka but at my level people just tend to jump out of the corner at awkward angles and it really messes with my dps. Any advice for keeping people in the corner?
You might be sitting too close. There’s a overwhelming urge Ive found to go nuts in the corner with frame traps/rekka/overhead/grabs etc etc but some times sitting just at rekka length and waiting is a better idea, especially with characters that can escape.
Akuma for example I would never sit right on top of, I’d sit just back and wait for the teleport and punish that. For jump backers/neutral try using st.hk if you’re just slightly outside, it has a nice hit box, if you’re directly underneath use St.fierce.
I’ve had that problem in the past as well, and as Highland said, I started using st :hk: while they were in the corner jumping back or straight up just to catch them. I find it better than using flame kick in that situation to be honest.
But keep within light rekka range when they’re in the corner and just keep a mental note that they’re gonna want to get out of there and you stopping them with his anti airs.
Tell you what, to figure out perfect footsie range is to practice with every character in the LAB (Boxes on the ground) Figure out there furthest poke stay within that range, for your DP’s not working, try the all might St.RH it stuff Air attacks like a joke… And Cross up tatsu’s get eaten by it and end up back in the corner, play with it a bit, and when you have an opponent in the corner, there is absolutely no reason to jump in at them.
Happy Rekkas!

What are your tactics for people who neutral jump the rekka while in mid-screen? I get blown up by neutral jumps every now and then when I get overzealous (particularly against Cody).
I may have answered my own question a bit, but I’d like to hear other ppl’s input.
