I usually use a pre-empt jumping fierce myself, you can sort of just sense when they are going to jump if they are spamming. Or you can stand still and try and catch them with St.HK. That works from slightly closer.
Hmm ok. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks
Vega main. Picked Fei up last night. This character is amazing and I’m taking to him fairly well.
Ok, gunna take this Fei guy online tonight to test myself some. Hope just chatting in this threads ok? Fei boards seem kinda slow so far.
What I know so far: bnb is generally cr.lk, st.lp, cr.lp xx rekkas. st.lp doesn’t work on everyone, so on them it becomes cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.lp which is a 1frame link. On a few characters (Sagat, Dudley at least) cls.mp xx hk cw works for major damage. Hk cw goes into hp to whatever, such as rekkas or fk fadc u1.
Rekkas are safe on the first attack when spaced properly and sometimes on a delayed second.
Safejumps I know are bthow, dash, n.hhk (4), bthrow, st.mp, f.jlk (3 - no followup?), u1, lp, fjhk (4) and a corner setup is fthrow, cr.lp, f.jmp where the button press timing dictates if it’s a crossup or not.
mkfk and st.rh are anti airs, mkfk fadcs and st.hk trafdes into cw.
Consider u2 for viper, sim, rufus?
St.hp, cr.hp, cr.mk, st.mp and cr.mp are all great pokes/space control tools.
cr.mk, cr.mp and f.hk cancel to super.
.I haven’t messed with the command grab much yet. Anything else super important I’m missing?
Pretty much got it.
Cl.mp xx CW has been removed. Works on nobody now
EX rekka is OP since it offers such retarded frame advantage - use it! Also EX flame kick immediate jump forward is a 4 framer safe jump.
Sim you want to use U1 since the Ultra juggles 3 x after a CW juggle. Seth/Zangief/Akuma and Cammy would all be candidates for U2 also.
You’ll need to use the overhead and tenshin to open heavy turtles up but you’ll get that.
I wish Fei Long would stop giving my opponent inspirational advice after I take a round off them so they get pumped and take the next two off me
Or you use that same advice for yourself.
What are Fei Long’s worst matchups? I’m currently hopping around to find a secondary to Bison. I’ve recently picked up Akuma, but I’m not sure if he’s worth the time if he’s going to be thrown out as a secondary. I’ll probably grind out this new secondary non stop until I’m satisfied with my play.
New to Fei, need to start absorbing dat knowledge . Needed a new character to get hype for the game again (v2013).
Don’t understand how his v2012 nerfs reduced the Fei barrage I used to see online in 2011 last time I played regularly.
They nerfed his dmg to flame kicks, chip rekkas, you can’t do :mp: into :hk: CW (it’s +4 on hit, so in theory you could repeat that combo). Also took away some of his adv on hit (most notably :lp: went from +6 to +5. He’s not as strong as he was in Super/AE. He’s still great obviously.
If you’re new to Fei, work on BnB combos, and timing, and footsies/spacing.
I think it’s actually pathetic now, that I can’t successfully jab xx Rekka on the left side of the screen, 60% of the time now.
Must say, its real refreshing playing Fei even as a noob. Loses don’t give me that wtf rage quit feeling against the likes of Viper, Cammy, Seth, etc. Even his 1 frame bnb’s don’t have the same “difficulty” of some other characters 1 framers.
Wish I hadn’t wasted so much time with fatties (Honda and Gief)
Still unsure of the best block strings and frame traps but even with gaps in my pressure this character is just FUN!
:lp: Rekkas are safe dependent on spacing. 2 EX Rekkas are safe on block. You can do :lp: then :mk: CW which isn’t safe technically (-2 on block), but most chars can’t punish it. Pokes with cr. :mp: are safe on block. You can also do :f: :mk: (Overhead) if they are crouching.
The player 2 side? Remember :qcf: :p: x 3. Take your time. Maybe you’re pressing :qcf: but instead of :f: you press :d:. I’ve done that. Or you’re going to fast so it reads as :dp:. Watch your inputs, go slow with them, and work your way to doing them at full speed. Try to do it like 3 hit confirms.
Fei’s not looking strong at all in the semis.
A quick bit of tech I found. It’s probably super old and impractical, but I figured I’d share. I found out that if you do cl.FP xx FP.CW you hit them with a cross-up if they’re still standing.
Not sure if any Fei’s also dabble with Akuma, but I feel I need to understand his setups on Fei from someone that knows first hand.
Of course it may not be that Fei’s know Akuma setups to be better prepared, just that some people are better at “reaction” blocking on wakeup. I typically guess based on his screen positioning and what the player has been able to pull of so far in the MU but even if I guess right, I’ll still eat a throw or combo for more mixups.
I’ve watched alot of Fuudo vs Infiltration and it amazed me how many times he guessed right and escaped the vortex. A timely dash or focus dash or how the hell did he block that ambiguous jump in? Let me to believe he wasn’t guessing at all, but was it reaction or does he know the setups just as well as Infil?
I think he just knows Infil’s setups. Its hard to react to that Akuma tech which is why its better to be on the defensive in that matchup.
Hey guys, do we have a compendium of top-5 examples for excellent Fei play vs each character? I think this would be the best, most concise way to document strategies. I also need to be inspired for a local tourney and it’s been hard to dedicate time to sifting through the countless videos here… Could use a hand.
I think 5 videos should speak to the majority of things anyone could see for each character; you’d just have to be selective about which ones demonstrate a multitude of scenarios and provide accurate commentary on those.
Nosone! The silent wanderer returns!
Start up a thread mate. I have various video’s saved in my play list on Youtube that I use but every character would be a push. Problem with Fei is only really Mago and Fuudo play optimal. Players like Kindo/Ryukichikun although good players tend to either be too aggressive or too “flowchart”. In my opinion.
The new matchup thread was going quite well but kind of died. I was tempted to do a large tutorial video on match ups but I’m kind of scared that the are going to screw Ultra edition hard.
