Fei Long Theory Fighter/General Discussion

Fei Long is strong and easy to use, so that makes him pretty solid. I find him being a very simple character, so bringing out all his potential is really easy.

In it’s simplicity resides his power. For example, Akuma has tools for everything, but maining him involves a lot of OS, zoning, really good zoning, execution, frame traps…With Fei, all his tools are easy to use and to think about, so you can skip a lot of training and pro techniques and still be very very good with it. That’s the reason of seeing him maybe so powerful and sometimes, cheap.

i would argue that balrog is equally strong and easy to use. that dosent make him the best in the game either

I would have to disagree. He has no combo into Ultra, his bnb difficulty is one of the most asked questions on this thread from new players and his set ups require you to condition the opponent in a small frame of time.

Cheap to me is jab jab headbutt Ultra or trade Ultra, or easy links etc etc, and easy to use is Guile/Ryu/Boxer/Sagat etc etc.

You can get by scrubs with basics on ANY charcter, I do on a regular basis in Endless.

So a bit off topic but here i sit at ann arbor assault and it seems the people here are free. Won like 5 games with my 2 day old sakura. Free money? I think so :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, well lemme barrow like 200 dolla

i dont think anybody of note in our area went. enjoy your earnings

Where is this?

Lol ann arbor michigan. I won a whopping 33 bucks :stuck_out_tongue: im upset i didnt get to play anyone good though. I literally lost two non consecutive rounds the whole tourney. Dammit mike, be there next time! Whenever that is :-/

Don`t misunderstand me. I main Fei since Vanilla (I jumped to him from Sagat), and I’m quite bad at execution, not very good at zoning or footsies, and i don’t know how to execute any OS, but at the end, I defeat almost all the people in my country (Spain), or at least, I end up being with the same amount or victories or slightly less than my oponents, and I play with the best players of my country, like Ricky TTT, Fasoll, Rockhowar or Chocolillo, so my experiencie is not based on scrubs.

But with Fei the tactic is quite straightforward. Space your rekkas, antiair if someone jumps at you, and cr.hp and cr.mp. Focus is also great and easy to use (So he doesnt need that cancel into ultra, if you are going random, focus can also work here), and EX tenshin is perfect for turtles. You can survive PERFECTLY without cl.hp afer HK CW and without canceling cr.lp into rekkas, so you only have 2 frame links, and still be able to land sick damage. I know I am exagerating it, but you get the point. Fei has simple tools for everything, and that's it. Also, it allows to do many random things that not only are safe, but incredibly useful sometimes (HK CW and EX CW). Come on, you dont need to even know how to defend yourself properly with that shit.

I don`t think that he is cheap, but he is very powerful, and the most easy character to use. Zoning at an intermediate-high level it’s really hard, and Ryu and Sagat are no easy characters to use. How many really good Sagats were in America in Vanilla?

Maybe Balrog also suits this description, but he is also one of the tops, right? So you are reinforcing my point…

I feel lucky about this. I like Fei, i main him, and he results to be good and simple. I would never be offended realising this fact.

I write too much for what i want to say. Not used to write in english, sorry.

going on the “simple tools for everything” argument, don’t sagat, ken and ryu fall smack into that category? Up till now, i rarely meet any kens or sagats who understand what linking is. it’s all (cheesy) mixups and fireball zoning.

someone’s laming you? chuck plasma

someone jumps? shoryuken!

you land a heavy punch? fuck links, uppercut!

TLDR: With Shotos and Sagat, the tactic is quite straightfoward. space your fireballs, antiair if someone jumps you, use hp a lot. focus isn’t so easy to use but being random with the 3 frame uppercuts works fine anyway for landing ultra. Plasma is perfect for turtles. You can survive perfectly on traded srks into ultra and no links whatsoever, so you barely need any skills, and are still able to land sick damage. I know I’m exaggerating, but see how easy it is to make unqualified statements?

there’s a goddamn reason the top four played characters in japan (and probably the world) are 1. Ryu 2. Ken 3. Akuma 4. Sagat

don’t know what i’m talking about?
Shoryuken - Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition - Character Usage Rankings and BP Averages

sheesh

i dont know that i would qualify online shotos as high level tho.

few players actually know how to really space their fireballs or have any real concept of what zoning is. playing a shoto at a mid to high level is slightly more difficult to do than to play fei at a mid to high level because you have to have a true grasp of fireball spacing. where as with fei you just have to figure out how to get to your optimal range and play solid fundamentally

anyway, all this hard and not hard has little to do with how strong the character really is. it still boils down to matchups

I can survive perfectly with Ryu without using crouching jab into sweep, FADC Ultra or solar plexus into combo (not SRK). You sound like you just play tit for tat matches and probably hit Flame kick after every blocked CW, or mash EX in the opponents block strings.

To play Fei long you NEED to cancel cr-lp into rekka’s, it’s not even a maybe on that one. If you can’t your missing out on about 3-4 combo’s per match from blocked specials and another 3-4 on hit confirmed light attacks.

I understand the basis of what your saying, but it’s no different for the other 34, it’s not something specific to Fei Long.

so, if you guys could hop over to the SRK moderators thread, and nominate me for mod powers, that would be sweet.

we need someone to keep the fei section clean and up to date. if you would like to nominate someone else, i understand. just want to let my volunteer status be known

Gotcha Mike.

Done.

you got it mikey

Ok well I don’t know if anyone has noticed but SRK is looking for moderators. And with the amount of stuff that the fei forum has floating around I think it would be a good idea to have a consensus on who would be a good moderator for this forum. Obviously it need to be someone who:

  1. Would take the responsibility seriously
  2. has the time to do it

So if anyone wants to nominate someone, or wants to nominate themselves, now would be the time to do it.

HNIC mike is looking for votes. I’d volunteer myself (cause i have plenty of time) but i’m not exactly senior around these parts : P

complain

ugh i’m having a torrid time landing s.hp after hk cw, i can’t land it at all and it always comes out late. i can land it like 60% of the time in training room but lately i’ve been compensating for my inability to hit it with 50/50 throw/flamekick mixup. so my new year’s resolution was to try and land it all the time every time. that lasted about 4 days lol T.T

I think HNIC Mike would do a fine job. I’d volunteer myself, but that would be a time commitment away from the game and being an active contributor; those two roles are a big enough challenge for me.

@ Dyllyn:

Have you seen Higg1n5’s video on plinking the cl.HP? It should help, even if you use a pad (use HP and PPP to plink in that case). You should make your resolution to sit in training mode for a few hours a day–it really helps. My consistency in relatively lagless conditions is about 85-90% now thanks to that.

yeah, i got laid off so i got a bunch of spare time right now.

working is over rated anyway.
