Fei Long Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I tried cl.mp in the corner on every character in standing/crouching and the push back on cl.mp is to far. Now if you hit then take a slight step in it will get the grab on the ex version.

How do you folks deal with Guy during footsies? Specifically challenging his cr.MP, I’ve been running into a few decent Guy players lately and that normal has been blowing my ass up. I’ve had marginal success with cr.HP.

st.HP, st / cr.LP, cr.MK / MP I tend to find get beat out, or at best trade with it. Has any one else have trouble against his cr.MP?

I know it’s a beastly AA, but I can’t remember having problems with that specific normal on the ground. How about just rekka his ass?

Also I find st-HP is better if your backing away from the target, but you might have already tried that.

Rekka is pretty good to use as a whiff punish, which I don’t really have much problem doing. It’s more when it comes to challenging it / controlling space with normals that I have found myself having a tough time against it.

Almost feels like I need to treat it like Ryu cr.MK, and just focus more Rekka punishing it than to stuff it with my own normals. Did they buff it in AE / 2012? I don’t recall having so much trouble with it in Super.

Guy’s cr.mp has a insane hitbox but its only 6 frames. Fei’s lp,lk,mp,mk should all win out this battle.

I can’t start an offense because I’m too scared of people mashing reversals.
What should I do?

I know of a few safejumps with Fei
Something along the lines of back throw step back j.mp
and forward throw dash nj. hk
Any other ones? Is there one off of max range sweep?

fei sweep is too slow for a safejump. if you afraid of mash dp then use your rekka pressure more, would make them stop mashing

I went through a little period of this and you have 2 options. 1 - Bait and punish 2 - Mash back

For option 1 learn your opponents tendency’s. Which moves are they using for reversal? ( Chun - EX bird, Guy - EX Tatsu, Ryu - Dp etc etc) Learn the frame data on these moves and learn when they are most likely to use them. Stop your strings on block AND hit. A favourite of mine against mashers/grapplers is to hit confirm some jabs and then deliberately stop the chain at the link, wait for the inevitable mash and then punish hard for the reset. For grapplers this could be as simple as back dashing mid string ( works wonders against 360 mashers).

I find most DP scrubs mash once you come down from a blocked j.mp/j.mk so again I deliberately just block and punish. You have to think outside the box. Chicken wing on HIT is another spot. I’d say almost 80% of online scrubs will try and mash out of the CW on hit when you go for your 1 or 2 framer so again just expect that and try blocking on hit. Also tighten your strings, make them true, if you are continually pressuring someone with unsafe chains they have every right to DP your ass.

Once your opponent realises their reversals are not effective then you can start running some pressure games. I have a replay against a mate who is a Rufus player, I’ll show you what I mean if I can find it, I’m sure it’s on his channel.

Option 2 involves just simply mashing back. If they are not going to respect you then I damn well ain going to respect them!! Mashing is a viable tactic (especially online) but it’s not to be abused!!!

As highland said study them and bait it out. Sometimes you will just get those that won’t mash until the very end and it will be completely random. With online play it’s easy to mash as you can’t hear your opponent mashing. I hate mashing and I am guilty as hell sending rage messages because it’s a pain in the ass to lose to a mash.

Once you get hit with one know they will throw another so again back to what Highland said. Hit with a few attacks back off a mash will come. If on block do the same. And in the end mash back but do it when you can keep it safe like FADC you won’t eat a big punish if they attempted to bait out your mash

Damn Rank lobbies are a mess. I went back to rank to see how far I can go and see how much I improved overall. Yes they are just number (PP/BP) but I guess that’s a way to measure your play. Well I have gained over 4,000 BP but lost 800PP. I looked at my overall record and I went 150-31 but I only gain 300PP during that process. When I lose I lose to the worst, bumbest and lagging crap ever and I lose 111PP because of it. Oh yet I beat the #11 Vega in the world along with the # 15 Sim and #12 Sakura.

Maybe I am not cut out for this. How does one get to the 4K range and stay there. I never find a lobby of “same skill” I did once and it was a T.Hwak and he mashed out Uktra during my BNB and it hit. After that I can’t find anything. I topped out at 3821 dropped to 2992 and now sit at 32xx. It’s so frustrating. ARGHHHHHH!

you worry too much dude. i have only 2.4K PP but still kick ass with the lag and all lol!

i wish it that were that easy for me, I play with a rhythm and with lag it throws it off and I am lost I guess.

HAKUNA MATATA:)

I don’t play ranked. I think I have about 3100PP and about 6000BP with Fei and 6000BP with Sagat but that’s really just when I can’t find a game in Endless.

For me it wouldn’t really be worth going past 3500PP if I was to try. At that stage you have to win 95% or even higher of your matches or hope that your playing quality opposition. A mate who plays Sagat has about 4500PP but he’s done stupid shit like go on a hundred win streak!!

Only thing Ranked is good for is feeling a little pressure to make it like a tourney but then I don’t attend that many tourney’s so again pointless. Plus a lot of people either pull the plug or don’t want to play me again (just sit there on ready) which just pisses me off.

lol! HAKUNA MATATA @ Highlandfireball

I will get to 4000PP soon. Just need to really avoid the stupid random BS and play a super solid. It’s my goal and I will get it as well as a A+ rank if there is anyone still playing rank. Just got B+ so in about another week of rank I will be a A rank. I have all the faith in my abilities I just have to lay off of dumb play on my part and be very solid. Get back to you all in a week

im trying to pick up fei as a secondary what should i focus on first

spacing your rekkas and hit confirming them. footsies change from characters but thats his core game. Rekka pressure and confirming then when you hit them. He is a very liner character not many gimmicks.

ggs last night to Zbones23. Very solid turtle style play with Fei. He uses ex rekka a lot but very well. Many of the mirrors I face dont use ex rekka pressure. Few lag spikes here & there but I have to face it, I may have 50 down and 20 up my provider is ass and I cant wait for Fios to hit my building. Peek hours my signal drops to half. ZBones work on AA as you let me jump in free. Try to avoid waking up with CW. My OS was off last night and it isnt really a free escape. If you sail over my head its a free rekka punish as well. And lastly like I told you last night dont use cr.mp~rekka a lot. FA will blow it up off line. It will get CH crumble or players will mash out and punish that rekka. It isnt a true link.

Just went 35-4 and lose 330PP but gain 7BP why is rank so trash!? I’m trying not to break my pad in frustration but COME ON MAN! Still grinding in ranked in the 80’s with 11XX plus. A isn’t far away
