Fei Long Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I p-link with all three buttons but my order changes based on the combo (i know, its weird)
cl.hp - flame-kick: hp~lp~mp
cl.hp - rekka: hp~mp~lp

For tenshin to cl.hp usually the p-link will save you from missing it but wait till he gets his feet down, i am not sure about the exact timing but watching his feet did help. Hope that helps, good luck.

After tenshin, use the triple, strum your fingers across the 3 punches, they all cancel into special, you’ll never miss, worst case you’ll get a jab xx FK or rekka. I recommend HP xx EX flame kick. Biggest damage we can get now, better to take it when you can.

cheers guys.

how are you guys dealing with neutral jumpers? ive been getting killed by them a lot lately, especially the giefs, chuns, and saks

far hk is good to get them, i like to use it against Cammy too, to fuck up her Cannon strikes lol

You can also early jump hp or hk.

I’ve been trying to use some Third Strike techs against Chuns that love to neutral jump hk for some time now. I’m trying to use the c.mk > Super, c.mk makes her nj.hk whiff, so i get the full combo.
This has been working alot for me, so I’m using it more against other people, c.mk makes Fei so small that I feel that I’ll be using this alot.

cr.MK is the best poke against Chun-Li. It beats her sweep and her standing strong.

Not good against every character though.

This is probably not a simple question, but what the heck do you do vs Seth? I feel like I need to mash DP every time he’s near me to stand a chance of taking any damage off him.

Seth bleeds bad, so that makes this match easily winnable with some good reads, although it’ll be a tad harder now. Speak to a Seth player and they hate Fei Long.

Instead of mashing Dp, try jumping the shenanigans, this is one match where if you get a jump on him its 50% health out the window. When you find yourself in a mix up - neutral jump. Neutral jump will beat both Tanden and SPD for a full punish, he might DP at which point you’ll only eat small damage as it’ll be a one hit but he’d have to guess. His cr.lk will also catch you meaty but there are two schools of thought on the Seth match.

  1. Block everything, eat the damage, wait for your opportunity
  2. Take as many risks as he does, your gambles will pay off bigger than his.

I’d say from my experience, I play defense with a rekka zoning game and neutral jump HK, but I’m not afraid to jump out or back dash his bullshit, in my opinion, you have to let him know your capable of taking that risk of escape. Focus back dash a random Seth DP and it’s GG if you have Ultra 1. (as witnessed at Evo by Fuudo). You can’t escape with any specials, Seths DP will beat everything we have, and I do mean everything.

Personally though I’d pick U2 for a shenanigan free match, I don’t like that jumping HK of his, I find it one of the hardest to tell in the game. I don’t think he has anything that can counter 1 blocked lp rekka either, I think SPD is out of range, although I’m not sure what changes he has.

Remember for Seth to win, he has to take risks. It’s ok to mash out the occasional DP though if your feeling overwhelmed, that’s exactly what he’d do.

Hey guys a request, could someone test this out for me just as a confirmation, this should be a meaty tenshin setup beating out a 3 frame normal.
(opponent in corner)
lvl 3 focus crumple, (late, so opponent resets in the air) s.mk, tenshin (tenshin should be done immediately after mk recovers)

anyway thanks in advance as i won’t be infront of a console for a few days and this was the last thing i was doing in training mode

I had one hell of a time with an Evil Ryu and a Honda tonight. Anybody have any specific pointers for the 2012 changes towards these characters? The loss of cross-up CW and jab sweep really tilted my game up.

Can’t see Evil Ryu being a hard one, not sure what tips to dish out there. The Dive kick can’t cross up so look for it and late DP or just block.

Honda match , the best turtle wins. AA him with St.hk instead of flame kick and for those further jump ins. OS a DP if you jump on him it will beat most of his options including EX Headbutt. Cr.Fierce to keep him back and if your connection is good you can dash up Flame kick when he neutral jumps, or either jump forward with fierce. I assume you know you can reversal rekka headbutts.

You just have to be really patient. It’s a boring fight but our tools are better than his.

Thanks, that’s what I figured. I haven’t played much 2012, so I was definitely not used to the cross-up CW change and I was a little sketchy on doing the 2nd rekka for a counter-hit.

On my AA’s with st.hk for Honda, I was trying that but they were getting beat constantly unless I threw them out a little earlier than normal, but I think that’s because he was safe jumping.

As for E.Ryu, I just had a hard time getting in really. Even with baiting for Ex CW over fireballs it was just odd having difficulty against him. Usually it’s no problem, but thought I’d ask in case anyone else had similar results. I just haven’t been playing much and that’s probably throwing my game off.

E.Ryu can zone quite well and his cr.mk xx fireball is a true blockstring, but I just treat him like Ryu. His sweep is punishable by rekka, and his fireballs recover quite fast. Better off focus absorbing or neutral jump. If your going to EX wing do it from no further than mid range.

When I play against Fei with Sagat I’m purposely throwing slower shots in order to bait the EX wing and uppercut it.

Hey guys, I need some help in the Cammy matchup, the “new” Cammy is killing me, even tho I play her a little. lool
Please, help me.

I play her too a lot and i think this is a difficult one for her, prevent her to jump, your anti air has to be fine, don’t quick stand after a spiral arrow when she finishes a combo on you, this way u won’t have to guess where the canon strikes hits you, u can also limit a lot of her dive kick options by picking ultra 2, use crouching fierce, and spaced rekka to fight her on the ground, in this area you have a clear advantage on her, punish her dp with fierce rekka, u can also dash for a bigger punish. If she gets in on you, be careful of her frametraps, don’t mash crouch tech as she can totally destroy you with counter hit set up and ex dive kick, it’s better to block or dp if you have meter to cancel it or backdash. Eating a throw is not very scary as you have tools to limit her mix up options.

Yeah cammy can be tricky.

Something I watched Mago do is he quick stands and lv1 focuses to avoid cammy’s mix ups after a kd. Watch the latest video in the video thread that should help.

Focusing an attack negates OS, since the absorbed move is considered as a hit. So, its a very safe option.

Here is the vid forward to 8m 30sec for the cammy match:

hi im new to fei long blah blah blah

i was just wondering what should be the 1st thing i should work on with fei long in your opinion.

Spacing is the most important element of Fei Long’s game but it’s nothing you can really practice without game time. If you can get spacing right early in your game, you’ll have less blow ups and tantrums when your getting lamed out. Learn to sit in the sweet spot of each character, it can really make people nervous and make a bad call (bad fireball, jump etc etc) as generally people are scared of Fei Long. Try to sit about a LP/MP rekka length and toy with them.

Rekka hit confirming would be the number one thing you’d want to learn to take you above a regular player, Fei comes with built in footsie’s, almost anyone can pick him up and do well with his normal’s as they are so good, so you’ve got to really hit home your advantage with rekka. Now that second rekka LP is -8 on block, you have to be on point. You can put the dummy on random block and train your hit confirms this way.

After hit confirming, you’d probably want to work on ambiguous cross ups. It’s hard for Fei to crack turtles so these are a must if your to break them open. These would be your J.mp, J.mk, J.lk, although J.mp is the main one. Obviously after a throw or knockdown.

Probably the most important piece of advice I could give with Fei after playing him for so long - Don’t feel you always have to be the aggressor. Just sitting, waiting patiently until someone makes a mistake is by far better than mindless rekka pressuring or throwing out normal’s. This is especially the case against charge characters or fireball zoners. Take your time, punish whiffed moves, BE PATIENT!

(This is all assuming your competent at the game, and can do the basics well)

I have been playing Fei Long against a Gen player. He always uses Hyakurenko (the Hands), endlessly. I haven’t yet found any move in Fei’s arsenal that can get past them without getting hit. Jumping in- I get hit; trying a sweep- I get hit; try absorbing- I get hit.
Is there such a move, preferably one that doesn’t require meter? what can I do?

Just rekka him, maybe it will trade, but you can follow up the trade with rekka again.
Idk tho, Mike uses both Gen and Fei, he might be able to help.
