You guys have any advice on timing offensive focus attacks (or defensive if that’s more pertinent)? I know Fei’s is really good and very important to his game, but I feel like I’m being too transparent with mine, like ending a block string with it, or using it from similar distances, etc. It may be that I’m using it just fine and online opponents are just jumpy, but I’d rather blame myself and try to fix potential mistakes.
Anyone care to outline their focus attacking strategy? Thanks!
I go Focus fishing. A lot. But Fei’s Focus is great though, so who can blame me. Anyway, you’ve gotta keep it varied or you’re gonna see a lot of broken glass.
Just a couple of general tips:
Focus and back dash - Builds ultra for one, but because I do it a lot early on, it gives them an expectation of it which then makes it easier to land FAs later. Because I built so much Ultra before hand as well, it does better damage too.
Quick lvl 1 FA as a poke
Charging for longer than normal - This is risky but if used sparingly is quite good
Vary the length of charge obviously
Focus with Fei at almost his max range so you’re less likely to get poked out of it
Be wary of chars with quick armor breaking options like Rog, Rose, Cammy etc
I use FA to dash forward and buffer a CW or Rekka (spaced as to where I am from opponent) Works pretty good to get in or even catch them moving forward.
Spartan_throne, when you use lvl 1 focus, do you generally dash back off it instead of fwd? Since he’s at disadv from it on block. I never really thought to go for tap MP+MK lvl 1s, adding that in could be a huge help. But not if it gets me killed on a dash-in.
lvl 1 FA should be backdashed, unless your able to see the hit and dash forward. For me I am not able to do that so if I’m using it as a poke I backdash pretty much all the time. Also if it hits on CH you will be able to followup with rekkas get all three in, and push the enemy back into the corner, if you aren’t there already and get a knockdown. Saftey fist!
I like to condition my opponents by focus fishing a lot, and when they get used to it…Focus feint -> forward dash -> tenshin works pretty well, even on wakeup.
Oh I guess I didn’t specify, on a blocked lvl1 FA I always try and backdash is what I meant to say. And I can see how that would be a good setup, but I usually see people backdash/jump back. Whiffing a tenshin can lead to soooo much damage.
I heard that meaty cr.MK will evade it (??) haven’t tried that out myself though. If it works, you should be able to punish the recovery.
Few Vipers FADC it so I’d just bait and punish. Late Flame Kick will beat it clean, but too early and it’ll trade or be beaten. Free Ultra 1 if you use that ultra.
oh yeah guys by the way for those of you that have facebook i made a page on it called “The Gnosis Empire” i will have updates on things i have discovered in SSF4, sometimes well im hoping alot of times there will be videos and also a variety of other things people are just generally into and have lack of knowledge of. So if you have facebook please check it out also add me my user name on facebook is “Jago Margqulius shinszengate”
Same thing happened to me tonight - 9 straight. As far as I could figure out, neutral jump was about the only thing remotely effective and even then it was a guess.
you know, Bison is the lesser evil of the charge characters to me however, when someone plays a Bison the way this guy played Mago…your fucked. Its hard as hell to get in with rekkas or jumpins, st.mk stuffs rekkas, st.rh stops your jumpins and CWs and if he gets a life lead and lames you out…its rough. Only played maybe one or two Bisons online like this and beat one of them only because of out guessing him, the other beat me and i think Nosone in an endless numerous times awhile back.
Tell me about it. Focus is out, CW is out, Rekka you can sometimes get away with , my only hope was to lame it out back which inevitably leads to some kind of tit for tat death match. Didn’t help that the guy I was playing never missed a lk all night either.
I find the better I get at this game, the less I actually enjoy it. Strange. I’m seeing more and more of the game mechanics that players find let the game down as I go up the ladder.
On last nights evidence - I’m putting Bison up as my arch enemy number - 1.
