Fei Long Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I need to use them more tbh. I don’t go to them often because I can’t land the follow up consistently. Um I saw a video that shows Fei doing cr short cr jab tenshin in ultra. So not sure if the jab to tenshin is completely gone.

Also trying to get a little higher level play going. Looking for solid frame traps if anyone has got them, especially for crouch tech bs. The only one I just started using is cr short or cr jab to stand strong followed up by cr jab to rekkas. Not sure on the frames in between but it seem solid. I usually plateau with characters and I really don’t want to do that with Fei since he’s my favorite by far. Thanks in advance

I don’t know if it’s a frame trap, but a meaty st cl mp, has worked well for me on wake up or walking up to a defensive opponent. A cr lp after turns it into a block string if you link it. If the mp lands it can cancel to fk or cr lp xx rekkas

After cr tech, st lp or cr lp leads you to rekkas. (Just noticed you mentioned it )

Ex tenshin from jab is gone. Regular tenshin might be cancel able from jab but I’m uncertain. Other normals tenshin can sis remain

Tenshin is worked best as a complete surprise after conditioning the opponent. It’s ridiculously punishable. As it should be with the potential damage or screen positioning it can net. Learn cl st hp after tenshin, makes it worthwhile to land. If you screw it up, backdash, generally a reversal or a throw is coming if you’re close enough.

I did a FT5 with a friend, lost 5-1

How do Yun deal with this character? I can’t really run my game, because of his CW and DP. so it’s more of a guess than usual. And LK CW during block string is annoying if they mix up with Rekka . and trying to jab after blocking CW? gets DP…

I hate this character, lol

Every time I try to do a jump in on their wake up I get DP’d or auto-correct DP’d. Am I doing something wrong? I just don’t even try to jump in on their wake-up anymore.

If it keeps happening the best bet is to stop jumping in on wake up. The only jump in on wake up i tend to use is mp.

Fei has decent mix up on the opponent’s wake up. Try tenshin set ups, back dash to rekka (this catches those who wake up with dp), backdash cr mp or mk. Low high mix up once you’ve started conditioning their blocking. Fei’s overhead has good distance as well. All tht is better than jumping in in my opinion. FA Can work… But can easily be armor broken.

You are messing up the timing. You should be able to jump in so that both auto and regular dp will whiff. Off of forward throw for example walk a step and j.mp should make it whiff. This is character and timing specific though. (ex. probably won’t work on kens stupid mp dp)

Sounds like your friend is a very random Fei and that you should play him differently then other players. Don’t give him the respect that he’s going to block if he keeps doing reversals.

Also you should look at the frame data. Lk chicken wing is -4 on block. Mk chicken wing is -2 on block. If he is getting a dp on you after those then you are missing the timing for some reason.

Hk chicken wing doesn’t have invincibility anymore. If he does random ex or hk chicken wing from fair away you can use an anti air on it.

Like the others said, your set-up or safe jump is not working. Also make sure to hold block when you land IF what you are attempting is a safe jump setup.

Also here is the set up everyone is referring to:

Thanks man. Played him again, and won this time. Didn’t really do enough studying on him. Thank god this didn’t happen at tournament . I would be so unprepared.

Is there a list that flame kick fadc hk chicken wing doesn’t hit three hits on?

I know Sakura and Balrog? I believe its 8-10 characters though. I’ll try to see if I can find the rest for you.

Damn that’s not a lot lol. So we can can start doing fadc to straight ultra since the three hits all hit now?

Yes

just from memory its cammy, gen, fei, rog, sakura, chun, and ibuki. im not sure about adon, test him.

edit: going straight into the ultra does more damage anyway, but I always thought we did the chicken wing to build a little bit more meter back.

Its more so because on lots of characters the timing is really strict and not worth it for the difference, especially if you don’t have full ultra.

Some characters are more practical to try it on than others. It’s really easy on adon.

no if you get three hit CW and three hit ultra then that does more damage than fadc to straight ultra… in USF4 you should always go for the CW version if it works on that character.

I’m sure this has been asked before but I can’t find the post.

Is there anything I can do to combat a focus spamming Ryu player? He is standing mid screen and constantly trying to bait my rekkas. I thought it was possible the mash that second rekka out fast but i keep getting countered or crumbled. Should I be using ex or lp rekka or just give up using them to break focus.

I’ve tried other multi hit moves like the ex chicken and hard kick but nothing seems to work.

It’s so annoying! Please help!

Try closing the gab by moving forward. Cr jab rekka is two hits and always beats focus. Also depending when the ryu player does the fa you could possibly cr strong ch rekka. If he keeps doing it he has to back dash or forward dash to get out of fa. When he does punish with rekka or whatever you choose. Hope this helps

Use your own - better - focus attack to counter his, when he inevitably dashes back, you dash forward and he loses ground if not release the focus. Jab xx rekka is your best tool for focus spam, when you walk forward do cr.lp qcf mp , if you tag him he,ll go straight into rekka or you will block in time.

If he’s doing it for fishing just start jumping on him and blow it up with normal xx dp ( again gaining ground)

Last resort , get close , wait til he activates focus then ultra his ass = dead ryu.

I’m talking about why we go for the chicken wing combo on the characters where you don’t get three hits of both chicken wing and ultra since you get around thirty to 40 less damage on that combo (depending on if you use mk chicken wing or hk cicken wing). If I recall correctly there’s only four characters that get hit by all three in AE 2012: Dee Jay, Dhalsim , Honda, and someone else.

But to expand on my example of Adon he’s a character I think we should be using FADC U1 on in AE 2012 because he’s so easy to do it to and he doesn’t get hit by third chicken wing.

I tend to use the Arc Kick follow up for the meter and stun build. Also, depending on my situation / confidence, I will opt to hold onto the Ultra and see if I can find or create the opportunity to land the full animation rather than the 3 hits.
