I kinda wish they didn’t nerf Fei’s st.jab. Would be handy to be able to combo into an untechable knockdown, especially for his safe jump. Also, kinda wish dp fadc ultra juggled for 1 or 2 more hits of damage. I’m not a game developer though, so perhaps these things keep Fei relatively balanced.
I don’t know no one really falls for his overhead/low rush anymore. You need to really make it unexpected and still reacting isn’t too difficult.
Also delusional st.jab st.strong sweep is a pretty fun combo to do. I know it doesn’t work at certain ranges and on certain characters but it’s something.
Can anyone give me some meaty tenshin setups or meaty st.strong setups? Kinda specific but I feel those two are amazing to have in your arsenal.
Okay. I have a lot of Q’s that need A’s. Simple Yes or no answers are fine.
-
is s.MP really as good as I think it is on hit?
-
What should I be saving my meter for?
-
Best Flame Kick to AA with?
-
Basic close range frame traps?
-
Are FADC punishes really worth the 2 bars? (s.HP > Shien > FADC > CW)
-
Yes, on hit and on block. Love it and cherish it.
-
It’s up to you to judge during the match, really. Fei Long gains meter pretty easily anyway.
-
MK.
-
cr.MP, cr.MP / cl.st.LP, cl.st.HP xx EX Rekka (don’t forget to cancel into rekkas, because the HP is punishable as hell).
-
I’d say yes. FADCed into Ultra 1 instead of CW is really worth it if you can land the third hit.
Meter’s not that important for Fei, not like other characters.
EX rekka is under rated IMO. Safe on 2 hits, massive chip, leaves you in your opponents face, better damage, best start up and range…
Fucking great move.
The only thing i’d add is:
- Meter is very useful against projectile characters, if not to get in with EX CW, it’s useful to punish super on reaction. FADC is useful if you’re under pressure and want to FK FADC backdash to alleviate said pressure.
That being said, remember that people FEAR your character, use it to your advantage. A stocked super may not even be needed, but believe me it’ll deter people from trying stupid stuff.
Hope this helps!

Was messing around cr.mp and cr.mk buffered into super the other day. Found cr.mk to be more consistent, probably because it hits low. Super does pretty insane damage if it lands, like +400 but you have lost all meter, which could be important in some matchups.
Also, tried using this for chip, but found the last hit to be unsafe and punishable, so that was interesting.
Do you guys ever use super like this or tend not to blow all your meter unless its the final round, or desperation and you need to finish?
I would never use Super or Ultra for chip personally unless I was trolling some complete noob who was pissing me off by taunting or something.
You might as well do EX rekka loops.
I only really use Super like USF don mentions. Chun-Li’s love to sweep for example, If I have super she’s not got that option anymore…
Your highest damage Super cancel is f.hk xx super. Does like 500.
Yeah, to be honest, I rarely use the Super, really. Unless I have a very comfortable lead or I have my opponent figured out and I’m confident that I can land the Super, I feel like I’m better off using Fei’s great EX moves, just like Highlandfireball and The USF Don explained or FADCing.
Theoretically, looking at frame data, you could punish a lot of things with Super or hitconfirm from cr.MP/MK, but in the end, I think 4 meter slots used separately (which means they are constantly replenishing) are so much more practical and will net you more damage than the full meter, be it from EX moves or FADCs.
My two cents.
Yeah that’s what I realised, the chip on super wasn’t that great and EX rekkas was a lot more reliable.
f.hk > super might be the most damaging, but probably isn’t viable because of how long it takes f.hk to come out.
Yeah , it’s a tad slow. It’s good for whiff punishing though if you have Super.
It’s pretty useful if your opponent gets focus happy.

After discussing buffered normals into super, this gets uploaded today.
How I play Fei:
[]Footsies. Poke and control the ground space
[]Zone them. Back them into the corner and keep them there.
[]Take it slow, AA consistently when they jump (Should I always use Flame Kick or s.HK?)
[]Whiff Punish
I’m confused with Chicken Wing though. Other than EX, I don’t know how I can use them. Combo fillers and to get in?
I’m also having mad rouble with his BNB’s. Linking lights is ridiculously difficult. Any tips or is it just a grind?
With anti air, I think it depends on the spacing and situation, or just mix it up to keep opponents honest.
You can only combo AFTER RH & EX CW. Both are +4 in hit (0 on block), so any normal 3 or 4 frames can be used to continue the combo.
The start up to RH CW is slow, so to get in if needed use ex CW, but definitely not from far, as you will get blown up on landing. You can use the light and medium versions as they are quicker, but both are negative on block.
Alot of Fei players after RH/EX CW like to do close fierce x rekkas (to put in to the corner) or cl HP x flame kick. You can also do cl HP x flame kick x FADC x ultra 1. Sometimes its more practical to use the ultra this way because it’s hard to land free ultra with Fei.
If you have super meter (and your execution is that good, you can do RH CW x cl HP cancel into super. Alot of dmg lol.
And for linking lights to rekkas, I think it’s a grind. I played with a guy who was having the toughest time with cr LK twice, cr LP x rekkas. Personally, I’ve always had trouble going from cr LK to cr LP to rekkas. But I find cr LK St LP cr LP x rekkas easier for my mind to process what’s happening and give my hands the time to adjust.
So find your groove, and you’ll be fine. You got most of the basics when playing as Fei.

Still failing those Rekkas outside of training mode. Damn, I went 3-1 in my casuals with Rekka-less games haha. I literally told people “I can’t Rekka for shit, I’m gonna counterpoke my way to victory!”. Lost by pixels in a mirror against a Fei mainer lol.
I think you might be going too fast. it depends on your input execution. I’m training mode you’re not playing against anyone whereas against someone you might tighten up. Keep it loose and controlled. Work on spacing and BnBs. You’ll improve.

I’ve got 3 weeks off work because I’ve just had my first kid
I think I’m going to make a video on Rekka execution, bnb’s , tight links and tips with both inputs on and video’s of my hands (sexy). There just seems to be relentless questions about basic shit.
Would that be of any use you think? I think I can cut it between the techniques and the screen or something similar while voicing over it or something like that.
I think it would be great for newcomers. Idk how to do any of that (voice over, filming my hands lol), but any advice can go a long way.

It wont be fancy, prob just handy cam job but with a tripod and some apple mac software. Better than nothing though I guess.
