Fei Long Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

The Fei Long Guide to newcomers?

  1. Pokes = Rekka
  2. Punishes = Rekka
  3. Frame traps = Rekka
  4. When in doubt = Rekka

If only  Players are too smart these days and the nerfs make it harder against anyone with good reactions.

Even then the newcomers can’t do rekka’s for shit so it might still be handy  If he was that easy, you would see more Fei Longs. I don’t know about other regions but I’d say he’s still one of the least picked “good” characters, he is here in Australia anyway. I hardly ever run into Fei players. Not anyone who can play. I know a few blokes who keep him as a pocket character for bad matches but not many main players.

Balrog on the other hand…

I think that’s the case in general. I don’t see many either. Obviously here in this forum, but online and at tourneys, I’m not seeing any.

Also if you can, post your videos here so we can see where you’re having trouble.

Sure, I’ll try to when I can. I played a few casuals with 2 friends, only used my main for 2 games, then tried Fei/Yun. Still kinda kept dropping the Rekkas on one side, and a super came out by accident haha. I’ve been advised to maybe tiger knee the motion on the left side.

Super means you’re doing it too fast. I’m guessing you mean the TK motion from back in the day. Everyday just practice on both sides of the screen.

Yeah, it was an execution fail. He blocked 1st Rekka, he was gonna hit something so I got ready to Rekka again, but he hesitated, then did it so I accidentally got the 2 motions out. I thought quickly pressing back, then forward again would cancel the buffer but it didn’t. This game is lenient, kinda like charge dash ultras. Also yes, I mean the old school motion. I’ve been focusing on the left side more since that’s where I got my problems.

I’m working on a wee video for rekka techniques, bnb’s and usage tips. Very basic stuff but you might be able to skim something from it.

What’s Fei’s worst matchup?

I think Guile, Vega, Bison. There’s tech against them, but they can all keep Fei away and Vega has better footsies with the claw.

Def Vega like Doc mentions. Also Akuma. They would probably be the worst.

After that the charge characters Guile, Balrog, Bison are all difficult if playing a top player.

Cody is also difficult since he can reversal rekka quite easily.

If I were to just pick one though it would be Vega.

I have a lot of trouble with Guile and Bison. Balrog, who I alt but not all that good with, I find a little easier. I played a TSC Spitfire’s Vega, and I literally couldn’t even get near him. And Akuma is annoying to deal with. And now with Infiltration, the Akuma army has been in full effect recently.

But yeah, I agree with all those.

Vega really? You know you can jump pretty free on him right? Maybe I haven’t played him enough, but I get the feeling you guys are getting poked to death. You can cr.lp rekka his cr.strong (reactions)

Guile and Akuma for sure. One of the few matches where you NEED meter.

Cool, I’ll definitely give it a look.

I hate Guile, unless I’m playing him! He was the main reason I wanted a secondary, but just ended up using Fei now. I’d rather Fei/Guile than Bison/Guile. Also Vega is so slept on, I don’t think many characters give him problems besides the dive kickers.

Okay Fei’s. I need some good old FGC advice. (TL;DR at bottom.)

Basically, I play against a lot of Guile players both online and offline. (I’m moving on up to higher level offline play, in Tournaments and gatherings in Europe now) I’ve mained Gen since 09 and I’ve never once felt confident going into the matchup. Same for Honda. I’ve played a lot of Alt’s but it’s getting to the point where I want a set in stone Sub / New main for AE2012. I want a character that has a strong ground game with good mixups much like Gen, so I narrowed it down to Balrog, Fei-Long, Adon and Vega.

I like Fei-Long’s style the most. I love claiming real estate and playing footsies. I like AA’ing and playing solid consistently, but I know he also struggles hard against Guile, not as much as Gen, though. (?) Now I know Adon sounds like the obvious choice here, but I’m drawn straight down the middle.

I love Fei-Long’s Rekka’s and general style. I love how he handles and how it’s almost a specific discipline playing him.

I think Adon is *okay *in terms of his gameplan, I don’t enjoy him as much as Fei, But he seriously covers those Ass matchups.

Rog and Vega became kind of void.

Now. I would maybe drop Gen (Makes me sad to even say that) In favour of Fei-Long just for that new change of pace and Sub Adon. But then someone could just say “Why just not main Adon?”

SO FRUSTRATING.

TL;DR - Should I main Adon or Fei-Long? (Bearing in mind I hate Guile, Honda and the Typical Akuma / Cammy Vortex BS. Also Ryu )

Adon does good against them all except Akuma I think (not bad, just not great). He’s also underused so that could work to your advantage since he’s supposed to be top 5.

Cheers. I think I’m going to stick with Fei and grind it out. Really love this guy now I’ve got his BNB down. Time to grind.

Np. Been using Cammy instead lately. Was playing and kept dropping jab rekka on one side of the screen. So I just picked Cammy, went stupid, and started winning more. :< I still feel Fei Long does the ground game x10 better than Bison (st.hk is NOT that great). I also prefer his dp to other characters, a lot of the time when playing the poke game, I seem to get good reads and catch their poke 3-4 times with lk dp.<div><br></div><div>Cammy/Fei/Ibuki/Akuma/Viper are pretty much 1 of the 5 I wanna play now, maybe 2. I gave up on Viper cause of my execution though. If I grind it out with Fei, I may also use Yang for fun. I just can’t make my mind up on who to play, online trolls don’t help either.</div>

Hey guys, im planning on subbing fei, i was just wondering if anyone could suggest what I should cook up in the lab to make a good fei for myself

Anyone here have extensive Cody MU XP? I lost to Harrison (Cody) pretty bad at Why Me Dojo (streamed by Iplaywinner), and I can go back and watch the footage all I want but without good MU knowledge (ie player xp in the MU) im not really getting far.

Im looking at you Highland/ZBones since you guys post pretty regularly, but if you have relevant info please share.

Addendum: anyone can pitch in, but i’m looking for the smart stuff
