Fei-Long and your BP/PP

I don’t have any recording device ATM, but I’ll try to get a friend to record some matches via replay channel.

Thanks, I’ll try to use them more. I usually try to AA with FK, but sometimes the motion is done too late because of online or because of mistiming, so maybe f.st.HK is better.

just be very carefull with st.hk. learn the distance before using it. If you whiff it has recover of 20. Thats a long recovery that can lead to a big punish. 9 frame start up inst that bad. Its best to throw it as soon as you see them jump. It will meet them at there highest point stuffing them out as well as avoiding any trades. In the end mk.fk is best option I feel.

UPDATE: Kenny looking over the hitboxes, do you think that st.mk/cl.mk can be good AA? The hitbox for cl.mk is much higher then Fei’s hitbox same goes for st.mk give a test.

I’m not totally sure of this yet. Far st.MK has some limited uses, but it’s not quite steep enough to catch jump-ins unless they’re empty or from really far away (jumping outside of Flame Kick range). Even then, it can be argued that st.HK can do a similar job I guess.

cl.MK might be a good tool to consider since it technically starts up faster than cl.HP as an anti-air (its hitbox goes higher, faster). I still don’t know where we can use this, but if anything, this is the one to explore. Maybe as a defense against Guy’s Elbow drop? I try using cl.HP to defend myself occasionally and that works about 60-70% of the time, but other times the elbow stops too far in front for cl.HP to hit (since it only hits above Fei, not really in front). cl.MK shouldn’t have that problem, and if the Elbow stops even shorter, it becomes st.MK, which is still an anti-air solution.

Well, I do try to AA with Flame Kick as often as I can, but sometimes I do the input too late (either because of lag or because I’m just bad at timing them), and then I eat a full combo for it.

A bit off topic but, this is where I use cr.mk. Usually it will either stuff the elbow, or cause it to whiff. Also on the run > slide/overhead it causes the overhead to whiff and you can punish the recovery with a throw, and usually will stuff the slide by hitting it in its start up.

Hadn’t played a ranked match in about 3 weeks until today… Won a few at the start and was nearing 3,800PP and then BAM! I found myself in random central. Turtle Barlog? Random headbutted me about 4 times. Vega? Random everything. Rufus? Baited me like a bitch. And after losing a few games and a good amount of points, there’s no-one left to play. Where has everyone gone??

Wait, no. Just played a Cody and lost a few more points :’( And played him again just now and lost again. I’m not even mad though, it’s just like everything I do is being beaten; like all of a sudden everyone knows how to beat what I’m doing and counter every little move I make. Down below 3,500PP now and I’m just gonna give it a rest for today.

I was hitting this really consistently last night vs. Alex Valle’s Guy. Good tip–I’ll this post up in the match-up thread.

Sounds like a really bad day Spartan–lord knows I’ve had my fair share of that. I think it’s important to warm up to ranked; you should try playing some skilled people in Endless for a bit, or at least a few people who challenge you to think outside of the box. It’ll get you in the mindset that you need to be in when the points are on the line. That’s what I’ve been doing nowadays at least. I’ve been playing a lot more Sakura in Endless, but I’ll never just hop into ranked without a good session with Fei too.

It might sound weird but I also like to recite strategy to myself before a match starts. Say, I’m fighting an Adon player–I’ll tell myself “Buffer Flame Kick against Jaguars, and keep pressure on with st./cr.HP and LP Rekkas; he can’t do anything. Don’t play 50/50 games when he has Ultra and two bars.” That way, I won’t get in the habit of rushing in blindfolded thinking that I can play the match the same way I played the last one or the one before.

I truly suck ass in SSFIV. I just started to play rank again to see if my skills have gotten stronger. Well I guessed wrong. I went from 3100PP down to 1400pp and now 2200pp. Players so so fucking random its the worst. I seriously wanted to give up. I train so hard to only get owned by some random play. I guess endless battles is where you want to have footsies battles. Rank is all about landing your special then throw or just throw ultra out. I give props to all the players who have high pp in this game. I so want to give up.

Its ok Jason. Like Fei said in HDR “Sometimes knowing why you lost is more important than winning”
Get up, put your chin up and be proud of your battle-scar’s

I think I’ve found the secret to winning ranked matches… Whenever someone is pressuring you, mash flamekick like you’re jerking off on steroids. I swear to God this works. Honest suggestion there…

Edit: Scratch that, I just beat VRyu Sensei’s Makoto without mashing anything. The secret to winning ranked is now; Never mash. Also, the secret is to only play matchups in your favour.

Edit 2: No, wait. Just played him again and lost. Yes, it’s all so clear to me now, the secret must indeed be mashing, I’m sure of it.

playing those random players will help you be prepared for if you fight a random player in a tourney. also you will be able to identify weak players easier if you face them more often. in turn you will be ready for whatever BS tactics they are using at the start of the fight as opposed to after you eat a wake up ultra.

just really stick to your fundamentals and play defensively until you see what you are up against in each fight. it may seem turtely and boring at first, but eventually you wont lose to that stuff any more, and all your fundamental play will make you more solid in the long run

you will see yourself anti airing every jump in, and punnishing for max damage every time, and teching all throws if you keep at it.

what you should do is just focus on identifying your opponents weak spot in the first round. is it wake up dp?, mash throw?, mash jab?, jump a lot? step kick ken?, wheel kick/roll abel? random ball blanka? figure out what it is, and then exploit it until they change or lose

that will make you recognize patterns easier, and help you to read all your opponents. which is good against good players too

then when you see something that you didnt have an answer to take it to training mode or ask inthul what he does

you could also ask us too. no matter how simple you may think it is dont be afraid to ask. i know a lot of times i used to shy away from asking questions because i would be embarrased for losing to something dumb. fucking butt slam honda lol

Actually, the secret is learning on when mashing works and on when it doesn’t. Lol it still works though.

Also, @ Jason:

I agree with what HNIC Mike said. It’s more important to focus on what your opponent is doing rather than what you’re doing in this game. If you focus on this, you should be able to catch when and which opponents are mashing SRK much faster than if you were playing your "own’ game. Even in 50/50 situations (i.e. CW 50/50s), if you just block/backdash and observe your opponent’s tendencies after the CW, you’ll get a handle on how they like to respond to that kind of pressure. Just have patience in the game and with yourself.

Yes! won my last fight with this one lol.

On another note just got a friends account from 2150pp to 4100pp, man oh man people were salty after being beat by a fei with only 800bp lol. I think I got 18 msgs saying how cheap/scruby I was and only one gg (from a 4700pp balrog, which I lost to, but it was kind of close…not really lol) I forgot how much fun it was going up through the ranks, and I think I’ve gotten to the point where offline play is a must to break me of all my bad habits, and learn to throw tech lol.

Ugh I need to work on my footsies…I just find it so boring for some reason. I now have a really bad habit of using CW to beat my opponents footsies which usually results in me spamming CW LOL! Hopefully SSF4 AE’s nerf on CW will make me start focusing on my footsies more!

Well I found the perfect way to protect my precious points, my PS3 died.

^ Damn, that sucks bro…

I got to like 3500pp last night. today I’m down to 2600. I sat and let it happen to me. I felt like the life of the game was sucked out by MvC3. Almost every match I lost could have been won. I was at 12750bp and went down to 12344bp. MvC, Curse you…

I fixed it! So stoked. I found a guide online on how to fix it with a heat gun, pretty damn simple.

Of all the characters I play there seems to be a large overlap of bad match ups… or maybe it is me. Anyways, I’m trying for the C to shining C trophy, more as a means to get a personal level of experience with characters to better understand them, so my PP has taken a massive hit.

God I’m down by a lot. I’m just in the dumps now guys. 3700 or so PP and 16000BP (which I could care less about). I dunno how to pick myself back up from taking such a long break before. I barely broke 4000 after a couple run-throughs, but the lobbies are so dry now, its tough.

Any Fei’s want to get in some endless sessions? I need to work on execution so much now. That, and positioning/spacing. If you see me on, give me an invite for some sets.

will do man, as soon as you see me on hop on in

Reading this thread makes me want to unleashed out my Fei to the ranked world. Alas I only started maining Fei this week so I am about as green as one can get. Will use you guys as motivation to bring my Fei from 0 BP up to stratosphere one day.
