Fei-Long and your BP/PP

I posted about that a while back, and after a little search, here it is:

As for what points are worth, I don’t think there’d be any remotely sure way to judge how much more weight can be given to one region’s rankings over another, so… meh?

From personal experience I can say that the points on PSN are not the same as what they are on XBL. 3k on xbl is compairable to 4k on psn and so on.

Probably not. I’m actually Scottish and miss our internet speeds (Australian internet is just useable) . How is the UK spartan? Lots of compitition? plenty of players? good connections?

After moving to Aus, getting a game here can be hit or miss. I’ll either play newbie’s or Top players, there’s a real lack of your typical average-good SF4 player. I’d consider that to be anyone with 2500PP and above.

Would that be similar to your region? or is 2500PP and up scrubsville in the UK ? It’s not like I can even single out either, if I put it on custom, I’ll get China. Finding and Aussie is like a needle in a haystack unless you go random search…and don’t even get me started on Perth!

I dropped PS3 about a month in after Super, I only had the Hori stick and it was horrid. Still have it though.

The online experience in Japan is a totally different world to what it was in the US. The netcode/connections here are simply superb. I stopped playing sf4 in the US because the netcode was unplayable to me. Also, the quality of players here is totally different. I think I haven’t played a single total scrub (ie, jumping around and sweeping and dragon punching ken) the entire time I’ve been here. No one seems to be a total moron, just some are more experienced or whatever than others.

As for how points compare… I have no idea. I don’t remember what the points were like in the US…
I’m sure it takes less time to level up here though for obvious reasons. The down time between games is zero, and you always can play people at around your level, more or less.

Well the UK has a lot of good players, it’s just that a great deal of them don’t play ranked or use their consoles much or play in open lobbies etc. I’ve played a lot of good players so far, but it seems between a good amount of them there’s some sort of inferiority complex going on. Like they have to put each other down all the time and talk big etc. It’s tedious. That’s only some of the players I’ve come by online and on neoempire.com.

I think it all boils down to everyone trying to catch up to Ryan Hart, who is typically known as probably the best player in Europe, and definately in the UK. I don’t know much about him and haven’t had chance to play him, but somehow he’s just miles a miles above most other players currently, or so it’s seems from tourney footage and the general tone of posts on the forums of NE.

As for people online in the UK; you can get great connections throughout the UK and it’s not bad at all against closer EU countries. Heck, me and Higgins were playing the other day and I could hardly tell it was against someone over the pond rather than someone over the road. As for the points, I’d say anyone who plays ranked to earn points and has above 2,500PP is probably able to challenge you in one way or another. They’ve got mixups and certain setups but are usually getting in over their heads with anyone over 3,500PP. At 4,000PP it’s usually players just above my level, so it’s challenging, but beyond that I get destroyed or outplayed depending on the player and character, which is where BP really becomes a relevant factor.

Emperor Cow’s Dhalsim beats me whenever I get a chance to play him. I can play on parr with his Juri though.

I hate sagats’ 20,000BP Viper is too much for me because of matchup knowledge, but he wouldn’t let me play against him more than just in ranked. His 15,000BP Seth is again, too much.

So yeah, the players are there, but it’s hard to get in and play with them, and if you can’t hold your own they usually don’t let you stay and play. They could likely hold their own in the US and Japan, but there’s just a great deal fewer people who could do that, which is what I suppose Aus suffer from??

It depends, sometimes you can can in a room with decent players, but I think that the complex thing is a worldwide trait, we have players here too who will run off because they somehow think they are too good for you. I think that’s something exclusive to the players reaching upwards of 4000PP (not all of them!). We have a few top players, ToXY (akuma) , HEAVY WEAPONS are a few names that do well for Aus. There’s prob about 10 quality players. Nobody head and shoulders above the rest though. (as in at their skill level, Ie we don’t have a Mago)

Melbourne and Sydney are the big scenes here, and Perth is a 5 hour flight from 1 and a 4 hour from the other (yes Australia is bloody big). So 85% of my online matches are Yellow bars. Now you see why I like playing Sagat? lol. I don’t even attempt the 1 framer, it’s never worth it.

We actually have our own website http://www.ozhadou.net/ , and a register of player tags. XBL has about 150 on the list, so even if you times that by 5 for people not on the list, your still talking less than a thousand players country wide. Not a hell of alot is it!

I had a bunch of folk at my house last week to play on the Cab, it was the 1st time I’d played anyone offline in SSF4… :shake::wgrin:

PS Brian - I’m jealous mate!

I think its a mind-set, rating doesn’t hold much value honestly. The 1st hurdle is execution, the second is setting up your damage. No matter how many times i read this i still see new things: sonic hurricane footsie manual

For me at least, i started asking myself when is a good time to jump-in? something so many players do. And what are you going to do after ur jump-in?
An opponent who likes to play footsie leaves himself open for attack if he whiff’s a normal, thus a jump-in. But you risk getting AA’ed and whole mind game begins. Once you get a knock down how are you going to capitalize, this forces you to learn safe-jump options and OS (traps).

I think now i’m starting to value oki more than damage. Just watching Akuma’s options after a knock down is insane. Fei is one of the best whiff punishers in this game which enforces you to be good at footsie’s, thus you create more openings for punishing whiff’s, but when ur mind is focused only on footsie’s you leave yourself open to jump-ins. See my point, its a mind-set.

You must set-up a good footsie’s game to create an AA situation. Once you get good at this you’ll see you get more knock downs, which leads to oki where your safe-jumps and option-selects take importance. Fail in any of those aspect you risk losing momentum to your opponent; that will test your defense…

damn you sendmaster and your psychological writings shakes fist I do agree 100% though. I really can’t wait until we get that sweep combo… man oh man that will make fei sooo much more deadly once he starts his BnB.

Good advice, but we were just talking in general terms (if you were responding to my post?) . Points don’t hold much value (if that’s what you mean) but you can clearly see the difference between a 2000pp player and a 4000pp player. Its a rough estimation of skill, nothing else.

It’s a nice estimation. I have never played a 3000+ PP player that was bad.

Yay!!! lost 1k Pp today… from losing my cool and being stupid lol… back up to 4k though… steadily working my way back up

Yeah my points have dropped dramatically too…just getting frustrated at not being able to find good high BP players is getting to me. I’ve been letting my cousin come over and use my account and he brought it down to 3200 bp lol…I’ve since brought it up to 4000 but I think I should just let my points hover around 3000 b/c playing and getting to 4000 bp was so much more fun LOL b/c you get to fight more people around your level. Once you hit 4000, it’s sooo lonely lol…I feel like I just hit a brick wall. Haven’t been playing for the past couple of weeks so if you do see me on, I’m gonna be super scrubby. =(

I’m holding at the 4900PP range, but I’m afraid to press any further. I’m cursed I tell you, CURSED! The next fight I have in ranked, I’m going to face a negative PP Dan and lose 3000PP myself, no joke.

On a different note, CJtruth is probably one of the best offensive Fei’s I’ve seen online. Lost about twice as many times as I won against him. I really have lost touch with how to play that kind of offense with Fei. I’ve been spending so much time playing a defensive, zoning game that I don’t really bother with too many mix-ups, safe-jump set-ups, or aggressive frame trapping. If any of you guys would care to let me x-copy some offensive patterns from you on Live, that would be much appreciated.

You’ve lost touch with that because instead of landing nice frame traps and mixups you’re constantly getting shoryuken’d by that negative PP Dan! amirite?

I noticed last night were your points where and I though you might be just sitting on it for now lol.

Lol that could be part of it. I just wish I had the “Justin-eye” so I could tell when people were going to press buttons and when they weren’t, without even looking. But yea, I haven’t touched ranked in the last couple days. It’s almost shameful of me. I gotta suck it up and put my money where my mouth is. :-/ I just get nervous when it’s a “milestone game,” ya know?

hahahahahhaa man I’m the same way, took about 1.5 weeks off then get back on and all I do is spam and mash lol, not to mention adding a few brewski’s on top of that… And I do agree that trying to find a match at 4k+ is the pits, i usually go days without a match being found. Oh well though time to get back on the horse and get better!

I currently only have 1500 PP and 19xx BP as a Fei player, but most of the time I spend in Endless mode 'cause I need more practice against the less common match-ups (usually I mostly meet shotos at my level). I’ve played him for a little less than 3 months, and I just got back from a 2 month break, so I have played him less than one month I suppose.

I pretty much only play Ranked whenever I can’t find lobbies with 1/x people in Endless. Still need to train my Fei a lot. I’ve been able to do the CW into st. HP about 50% of the time online without plinking, and yet FK FADC CW is still so difficult for me. :frowning:

This is my problem. I’ve bottomed out with Fei to the point where I can’t even remember what my style was. My main problem is the same, against anyone good - I’m too predictable which often leads to me jumping around the screen like a loon pushing buttons in an effort to open up my opponent, or doing something truly random.

There is no method to my madness.

I’m actually thinking of dropping Fei for a while because of it.

I feel the same, Highland, too predictable. My win rate with Dan is nearly twice that of Fei as my play style centers around mix ups and mind games, which is where I feel Fei is weak. No doubt he is a more solid character than Dan but I can’t seem to flesh out my game enough to avoid being predictable.

What do you usually do against other players to apply pressure? I’m not a very good player, but maybe I could give some tips for how you can do it better.
