Feel my Power! The Nova Video Thread

Hello, it’s probably not much but would anyone mind giving critique of this? ( As in if it’s practical and worth using, sorry for bad quality and thank you.)

If you guess right on which way the opponent will tech it’s a guaranteed unblockable (even if the video didn’t show it I tested it with the bot on jump) however, neutral tech and invincible startup moves like latriat will beat this setup.

Front roll: After :f: :h: delay for a bit then call assist, then walk backwards into IAD :L: or airdash back into j.:h:
Back roll: Call assist after :f: :h: hits, then do the same thing as above.

…why are Phoenix Wright and Nova on the same team…lmfaooo…It’s probably applicable but not abusable.

That’ll definitely catch someone off guard the first time they see it especially if they’re the teching type, but in addition to the escapes you listed people can also just hard tag to get out, likely trade with Nova and just let them get out. It’s always nice to have something to catch your opponent off guard with, though.

Also, idk what to think about Phoenix Wright in terms of team structure, you should just pair him with your two best characters and hope for the best.

That team is pretty much unblockable central
PW’s low and Nova’s high assist

Moons vs Viscant FT3

Hey so I played a FT5 Money Match at Lockdown 2013 this weekend (portugal’s biggest tournament) and I got it recorded so I’m looking for some feedback on my Nova play. I’m actually fairly proud of my performance but I’m always looking to improve. Second part is only 30 secs long and it consists of me coming back with lvl3 xfactor ammy on the same match this video ends at so no need for it.

Any comments?

You played very well. Good job. Besides a couple drops your neutral was on point.

Only advice I can give is you played a little stiff. Try to move more so you can have a less telegraphed approach. Also, vs Vergil you can actually challenge him at the start. Hold forward and mash back throw. If he techs the grab get used to inputting cr.L as soon as you grab so incase it’s tech’d you’ll hit him with your cr.L if he’s mashing grab. However, once this becomes apparent he might also be mashing his cr.L which is 5 frames. Which if he does you can start holding up after you mash grab so you jump and overhead him as soon as he does cr.L (since that would whiff). It’s a little complicated, but Nova can beat him at the start. The reason you got hit a few times is because you weren’t close enough to grab him and he was mashing H. Also, since you have Frank’s assist even if he won the cr.L trade shopping cart will hit him. Practice start of the round options.

Also, vs Vergil/Strider. If he doesn’t meaty you into a setup. You can punish his teleport+vajra mixups with raw S. He should never just teleport with Vajra. Learn how to punish Vajra in training mode. He had a lot of unsafe Vajra calls.

Besides that, you played very well! You just need to fine tune your punishes.

So I’m about 7 minutes in and I think it’s safe to say Marvelo’s insight is spot on. Your neutral was amazing. I honestly believe this game is developing to a level where if your neutral game is clean, you’re going to be a lot more successful. Tbh, the other guy was pretty bad. Really nutty. Any time you got hit, you weren’t outplayed. Just got hit by buttons.

Speaking of really clean neutral: http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2013/sep/17/amaterasu-amaterasu-everywhere-clockw0rk-marlinepie-and-viscant-run-umvc3-sets-against-moons/#c554784

I actually usually pressure vergil early on but I decided to play on the safer side because if I open with back+H OS throw with shopping cart (my go-to round start), I’m setting myself up for an instant Helmet Breaker HPBD which is a really shitty way to start the round. We played later in the tournament and he actually beat me 3-2 and it was top 8 loser’s bracket so he sent me home. I was gonna wait until it was on youtube to show you guys but here it is: http://www.twitch.tv/ptfighters/b/461860003 at 3:21:30. Also get hype for that hilarious glitch at 3:26:45.

That punish on teleport vajra is actually really useful because teleport-vajra is what I was most free to when playing him, I’d never played a vergil-strider that was competent so I had no idea how to punish it other than straight guessing the direction or predicting and moving away immediatelly. That’ll come in handy in the future. Thanks!

You can also test him by putting a pulse and standing inside of it. If he’s autopiloting, the pulse will hit him and/strider and you’ll get a combo.

I’ve been doing that a lot lately to try and get a read on the opponent early on, esp. teleport characters. Nice that Nova has such a safe option to do that with.

BlueLightning, I’ll check your video when I get home from work. Post reserved

That was nice, man. Your opponent wasn’t too hot but that was a really composed set nonetheless; it was easy to see you were playing with confidence which is something a lot of other people lack. I do kind of agree with Marv’s comment on Nova movement, it did look a little stiff, but much of this set was Frank/Ammy doing work so it’s hard to say for sure. The matches were so convincing that it’s actually pretty hard to see what your weaknesses are, haha. Maybe look to bait advance guard a little more? There were times where he was mashing push block vs. Cold Star, but you were going for preemptive throws and whatnot. Those are good times to walk/wave dash forward, menacingly, and threaten with overhead mixups. But who knows, you were probably still trying to get a read on the guy to see how he plays defensively anyway.

Great set, looking forward to more.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Strange + Cinematic Hyper top tier?

Hello, if anyone doesn’t mind can I get critique on how to improve? I know it’s not very good but any critique would be good. Thank you
I was substituting for my friend who had to leave early at this tourney.

Which one are you? I can’t watch the whole thing right now my but my very first observation of BOTH Nova players is theyre stiff as HELL. That movement needs some work.

Ah I’m the Nova/Arthur/Wright player. (RJ Crews) Hmm movement as in wavedashing and plinking? Sadly I still don’t have those down yet.

I agree, your Nova seems stiff.

I feel that your not really maximising Nova’s toolbox. There are a few things you could add such as iOH j.L, Cent Rushes and Grav Pulse. Erm, forget about Rocket Punch. I don’t know what that is used for in the neutral game department.

The movement’s a bit stiff, you’re not implementing some of his better tools like instant overheads and cent rushes, and honestly you’re not optimizing his damage combo-wise at all. Nova’s combos are pretty easy but some of your combos were sub-basic (magic series, super jump H j.S OTG super). Work on those, preferably with assist extensions.

But I’m not gonna lie dude, that team isn’t gonna do you any favors. I’d move Arthur to the last slot and find someone, basically anyone else to replace Wright. That’s not someone you want in the last slot and I honestly don’t think he’s gonna offer Nova that much.

Just going back to anti Vergil/Strider for a bit. Raw S will punish even if he teleports behind? Do you want it later so it autocorrects or is that too late to beat Strider?

Likely too late, though at the same time it all depends on what normal he uses to teleport cancel, if he delays the timing, etc. either way hitting strider should be the priority so you can jump cancel to safety worse case. Or you could just say screw it, do Nova force and puff out your chest to HIT BOTH SIDES LIKE A MAN.
